Sammy, the most obvious thing you need to improve is your textures. A quick way to get a nice texture is use a face texture from a skintone. Example, have used a texture from Ephemera (his policy did allow this..appears to have changed with the new skinset, meh!) and have modified that in my editing program using basic stuff (BurnTool buwaha) and a reference pic. End result is this , with the original on the right and what I've made on the left! You then need to get a groovy alpha to show your texture at its best, and then huzzah. Hope that helps

Sammy, just keep practicing. Like other people have already said, work on your shading and textures and try to make the eyelid look more realistic, and you'll be well on your way to a major improvement. Both the shadows and the eyes need more detail, and we only get better when we practice. And always feel free to post here. Sometimes constructive criticism is exactly what we need to know where to go next.

Its not hard to do, in fact rather easy. You have a decent editing program yes? As long as you have a good one of those, then you are all set. Just keep at it and you will improve - determination is a good thing

I use GIMP too Sammy.
I'm still getting used to it but it's basically the same as PS just you have to translate it as GIMP talk.

Have a go at this and tell me if you can do it.
