I'll start with this emo hair!
Tell me if you would actually use it, and if not, what should be changed.

Well, if you insist, here's my critique:
The good:
The texture looks very good. And I love the colour, it is not that fake yellow maxis loves, but realistic looking blonde. I really like the short part of the mesh.

The bad:
Umm, it's emo. I don't do emo. IMHO, almost everything that is emo is also pretty silly, especially on adults. Maybe if it was on a teenage sim, I'd like it more. Or maybe if the bangs were shorter, or something... I don't know, something about the long part bothers me, but I don't know what. Not very helpful, but you asked our opinions, so you got mine. :)

All in all, I think it looks pretty good. I would not download it, but that's because of I don't like the style, not because there is actually something wrong with it. ;)

Yeah it's the long part, bit girly. But people actually wear this hair... it's a request from a friend of mine. The boy wearing this is about 18 I think.

I want to make some normal versions too, with just hair at the top, or just the head textures, sexayyy!

I wouldn't use it. I don't like how most of the hair looks like it's relatively short and straight, while the one in front is curly and long.
Also the hair on top, I can't quite figure out what it's supposed to be. It looks like it's bangs but combed back. But if so what's keeping it in place? I's looks unnatural.

In short it looks like a sims hair but with something plastered on that looks out of place.

The colouring is nice though.

I'm good at criticizing peoples creations things I don't like. Go me!  :twisted:

I really like it.  Seriously, I am not trying to be one of the sheeple.  I like the texture, the cut, and the color.  I worship you!   :D   Okay, I don't worship you, but, I do think you create great hair for the sims.  I am always looking for male hair.

Your textures are always superb - there is never a damn thing wrong with them. I particularly like the way that the hair ends - so gorgeous.

Maybe, and I only say maybe, either poof the hair on the head up a bit to meet the end of the bangs, or lay the bangs down to meet the hair.  But if you do it, and it looks crap, discard that suggestion.

As this hair stands right now, I would certainly download it - your hairs are always gorgeous, and animated, and well, I just can't find enough good things to say.  

And I like emo.

I'd use it  on YA's and teens mostly.  My only small nitpick is that the hairline one the swept back part on the top looks a little abrupt where the texture on the side of the head is beautiful and you can see where the hair is attached to the scalp.  I know that it wouldn't be as dramatic on the top of the head, but it feels like the attachment should be slightly less linear and more like rooted hair if that makes sense.

Otherwise ZOMG it's so cute!! :)

I want to see a Noukie version of Chelsea hair.  I think it would kick some serious butt.  Plicka did one that was alright but I don't like her attitude about only doing adult females.  >.<

I would also use it on teens.
I don't really like it blonde though.

First of all, if there was a Nouk fan club, I'd probably sign up. I have a whole bunch of your hairs in both my games. And I like your wavy or otherwise non-straight hair the best. I really like the waves on this guy's hair. Reminds me a bit of the New Romantic look back in the 80's. :)


But ...

I have a thing about hair completely covering my Sims eyes. This is the Emo look, I know. While I admit to being older than dirt, I'm not THAT old not to know that. I hope. I should probably join a hair-over-the-eyes-phobia group. Maybe when I was young, a hippie leaned over me and covered my eyes with his hair, and I haven't been the same since.

But I can definitely see the attraction! Great job as always!

Would use.

I think it's a useful hairstyle. Not on every sim, of course not, but not two of my sims are alike and you need to have something for everyone.  Teens and adults would both use it in my game.

Awesome textures but no one would have expected less from Nouk (BAAAAH! I worship you! :P )

The only "bad" I can say... On the pciture to the left; the left side of his forehead... That part of the hair looks a bit strange (but it could also be the angle, I would have to see it in game because I know a perfectly fine mesh can look weird from certain angles in a screenshot).

Overall judgement: 4/5 (and possibly a bonus for the filename of the picture  :lol: )

Hey, that's the haircut of the guy who works behind the Fed-Ex counter down the block.

I like it alot.  The side shot with all the hair spilling down the side of the face is really great.

My only quibble (and I have to use an image because I can't explain it) is with the coloration change/gap here:

There's something about the lightness of the hairline of the skull cap that makes the fringe part look like it is not really attached.

I think it's very well made. Only reason I wouldn't download it is personal preference of style. =) The texture is beautiful, and the style is well executed.

I never like blondes in the game myself, simply because it flares like crazy and it hurst to look at it sometimes. 8)

My own opinions are:

The mesh itself is decent, concidering I'm a newb.
The textures suck ass.
Could be useful for stories, contests, and of course for those who likes to play the game 18th century style.

Berg - while you're right, I wouldn't have much use for it except for stories since I don't play historical 'hoods, the mesh is pretty good for a newb...hell the only thing I could probably come up with is a steaming pile of poo  :P  The top is better done than the hanging err curls, in my opinion.

Nouk - yay men hair! I'd use, black of course and maybe streaked (as you know I like retexturing your hairs ) ...it's different than the usual emo hair, maybe a little...straight? that fringe must've been imbued with hairgel :p In sort I like, though I still hanker for some non-emo cute guy styles  :lol:

Nouk, I like it. It doesn't scream "emo" to me, in fact it reminds me more of the "skater" style that was popular way back in the days when I was a highschool girl. Those boys liked to have long hair in front and/or on top, then very short or shaved on the sides and back. Weird when I try to explain it, but it looked like that when it was down. IMHO, we need more male hair that doesn't all look exactly the same.

Berg, the mesh is not at all bad for your first one. It looks a little cartoony, especially the narrowness of the curl where it comes down from the back of the neck. The texture definitely could use some work, personally I'd do it so that it looked a little more teased and curled upward, instead of straight lines.

Berg, it's not so bad I think. The texture looks a little flat, try adding some more highlights and darker bits to give it some more definition, detail and volume. I think the size and poofiness is fine especially for one of those silly 18th C. wigs. liegenschonheit is right that some curls might help out to move it away from looking too much like one of those drug store clown wigs.

Berg: TBTH, that hair scares the hell out of me...that doesn't mean it's bad, just that it scares the hell out of me! ^^

I really like that. Except the texture is all wavy and not wavy and weird, and it's blond, and there are NEVER any blond emos...it looks more skaterish like someone else said. I'd download it if it came in all four colours. ^^ I mean it.

I must simply agree with what everyone have said, and after I opened the file in Milkshape a few moments ago I realized that trying to salvage it is not worth it, in the state it is now. I will try to recreate it from scratch some day, perhaps try with another Maxis hair as a base... And perhaps earn some Milkshape skill points first  :lol:

It was just an experiment anyway and I was mostly excited about that it actually showed up in game, could be exported in Bodyshop - that it really could be used (in theory, at least...)

What I really was doing at the time was a set of 18th century furniture and I wanted an 18th century lady to go with them, for the screenshots, and she needed hair.... Talk about being easily distracted  :roll:

Berg:

Firstly, trust me, this is really really good for a first hairmesh. It really is. You added custom pieces and shaped a hair into something entirely different.
Very good in my opinion! It may not be everyone's taste, but I look at difficulty and amount of reshaping and the possibility to imagine and make something in 3d. This is good.

For the issues:
I think you took the ponytail head and stretched it out, and that is why the textures look blurry. I'm not sure how to fix it, except make the head part out of entire newly built parts, or somehow remap it so that it doesn't stretch like that. That would be pretty difficult for me to do, but not impossible. I think.

The curls are solid, but you can easily make new once by taking a 10 by 3 plane and shaping that into a curl. I can show you if you want :)

I made this for an online friend who really wanted this particular Sim and the creator was closed handed.  The clone amuses me if no one else.

Thanks for the kind words that my Sim looks better than the original.  As a rule I sculpt really real looking faces so I think a few traces of humanity slipped into this replication Sim.

Nice job Anoramic. I think everyone should make an Emily.  We could put them all in costume and upload them as a girl band (or a paramilitary fighting force) on MTS2.

I'm seeking a consult.  I use pre-made stuff for my Sims that might be useful to some folks.   I don't know if there's a real need for it or if MTS2 or any of the other free hosting places would accept it as an upload.  

I use Photoshop brushes for pretty much everything makeup related on the Sims.  This is one of my lip sets.  The lips were all taken from 3d.sk models or hi-res fashion photos and they're all sort of pre-sized to fit the Sim faces.

They're handy if you're doing a real person.  You can resize and cut and layer one lip on top of another to get unique looks.

Rickets, I would really like to have those! Lip textures are rather annoying to make, and I like personalizing my sims.  :)

Same here. Everytime I spawn or create a sim that I'm especially fond of I want to show and share with the world. Of course, in my case, the world generally doesn't give a damn.  :lol:

Me three. I did have a read at one point not that long ago but I was just bored. I didn't actually care what happened to them and frankly their death would have been a welcome relief from all the teen angst. I DL'd Tristan but have never played him. I've got my own sims and they have their own problems but I'm all for irritating AG. I was taught to share.

I like to make practical and easy-to-play houses. I always try to make rooms spacious enough but not huge, and I, for example, prefer bathrooms with windows than the dark ones. I like to be practical enough when I make houses.

They're just the Maxis defaults, but with nipples added to the teen, adult and elder females and pubic hair on all of the teens, adults and elders. I know there are a lot of skins like this already, but I've found it difficult to find ones I like. I couldn't find skins that didn't have too detailed female genitals for my liking (I use crammyboy's cock on my male sims (but not the pubic hair, it always seems too far away from the sim's body) so I'm not sure why I don't like them), that also had pubic hair that matches most of my sims. These have brown hair on the S1 and S2 skins and black hair on the S3 and S4 skins, so they still sometimes look a bit odd, but not as odd as having an S1 sim with black hair and blond pubic hair. The grey hair on the elders looks awful, I'm considering whether to try to make it look more natural or just to change them to the same colours as the teens and adults.

I'm away from my PC right now so I can't post any pictures, so I'm afraid you'll have to download them to look at them, in the unlikely event that anyone wants to have a look at them.

Why is it so hard to find houses without custom content now a days?  So I downloaded your house Pennynne, looks spacious enough with the basic necessities of life, a decent sized house, a drive way space and space for gardening if necessary.  Feel free to make more like that for me.

rome_raven: Thanks a lot! :) I just have plain Sims 2, and that's why I have to survive without any expansion pack things and I think it's too complicated to add links to CC originity (I have no idea can I say that so in English). I myself prefer downloading houses without any cc, so I like to make my own houses without cc as well.

And I also think that everyone changes wallpapers etc. straight away since they have downloaded the houses and got them into the game, so why to bother use cc or self-made wallpapers or floors. I don't even use to make any cc nowadays (I could make some simple stuff but I'm lazy :D).

I got those defaults by the way - I like Maxis skintones.

The thing I *hate* about houses with custom content is that the house itself sometimes isn't any good.  In order to make it good, you need to keep the sixty peices of stuff that came with it.  

I also think that making a nice house with custom content is easy - slap on the right wallpaper, and you're home and hosed.  I downloaded a lot of houses in my pre-cc adding days, and my catalogue was constantly gunked with wallpapers and couches etc. - none of which were really to my taste, and that I would have deleted - had it not ruined the houses.  Not to mention, if there's a pink wall ingame, why exactly do you need to make a custom pink wall and foist it on others?

I only have no cc houses at my site, and people still download them, so I think that there is a silent majority that don't want cc in their houses.

I actually downloaded a couple of those before Tiny went wonkers on me :) Haven't had a chance to try them out yet but they looked very nice!

I don't really have the patience to build  :(

What I really like is when I can find some nice CC-free affordable houses that can house a family with perhaps 3-5 kids. Those are rare and it can really be tricky as most houses out there are made so grand that one's sims can't afford it before the kids are grown anyway :roll:

That's actually what I plan to do - the starter by the sea (under 20,000) did better than I thought it would.

I have a couple of houses some of you might have use for...

They're completely CC-free and works with any game configuration because they were built when I was stuck with the base game alone a few months ago. I just tested them in Base Game Starter and everything worked fine.

They're all based on Mary-Lou's mini-lots so they're very small. Suitable for batchelors or couples with one child, but I played the smallest one with a family of four without headache...  :)

I wanted them to look very "townish" and it looks awesome when you put many of the same house in a row in your neighbourhood (well, it's supposed to, at least  :wink: !

Pennynine, methinks Cpt Berg mentions you don't need expansion packs, tiny lots are prolly built on MaryLou's minis (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=195469) - you gotta download them if you want to build small houses yourself.

That said, I downloaded all them houses, thank you very much. I absolutely hate building them bastards (only furnishing gets more hate from me in this game) and hunt small no CC, preferably furnished houses everywhere.

Fortunately, Clean Installer allows you to install lots only, leaving all the garbage behind. And I honestly see no point of uploading families along.

Obscurity, in 'fox there is 'save link as...' command. Worked fine for me.

Dorquemada is correct about the packaged lots, and the lot sizes! No EP's needed since they were built and packed with base game only, and yesterday I installed them with Numenor's base game starter-game-thingie too see that they could be placed from the lot bin and entered fine.

They aren't furnished, though  :wink: I myself hate to get furnished houses since I prefer to furnish them after my taste (or my sims' taste) and always sell all the furniture anyway.

Since someone asked for more houses, or said she/he wouldn't mind having more, I made a starter house. It costs just 18,770 § and it's surprisingly spacious - I just played with a family of 5 persons (parents and 3 kids, who all had their own rooms). The house is tested in game and I'd say that I made the family just for taking pics but I ended up playing with house for hours. It's really nice to play since it's so small and there is still room enough.

Justmerandom - Adobe doesn't do backwards compatibility with their brushes.  The set was made in CS so the brushes won't work in PS 7.  But here are the extracted PNG files so you can hopefully use them in PS 7.

Anyone have KSK's eye sclera photoshop files? It annoyed me no end that what you get when you download is information on how to e-mail her to get the real files.  :roll:

She's rather freaky IMO, and I just don't want to have to talk to her. Rather petty I think to supposedly post something for creators and then make everyone jump through hoops to get them.

In both cases it's the file with 'real eye public photoshop' in the title, this is the proper thing as a layered photoshop file.

So I've started to post in this thread any number of times...and stopped because I'm frankly intimidated by some of the people here.

But....I do a little bit of  creation...houses, mostly, based on real architectural designs (and usually from books featuring innovative styles), as well as a few recolors - mostly artwork.

The kitchen is from Holy Simoly, the bathroom is from Stylist, the bedroom is from Caravan Shop, and the sofa is from 4esf. Windows and doors from SimGoedhens. I won't be offended if you only upload the lot file and decorate it yourself.

I honestly can't seem to mind the CC in these two... I am very impatient when searching for objects online (don't ask me why), so I don't have many and some of those things are rather delicious. I'm mostly thinking of the tubs.

The CC I hate in houses is mostly fugly wallpaper, poly-loaded pixelated plants of unknown origin and custom uh... you know... terrain? Painting the ground with big rocks from a picture just seems stupid to me.  :roll:

redisenchanted - I have no idea where to get KSK's sclera without something that involves supplication.  It made me laugh to download the PSD file and find it to be a big advert for how wonderful the sclera is to own.  That must be the greatest white of the eye.  Ever.

The tub - and the whole bathroom set - is from Stylist. It's the barcelona set, which can be found in the booty.

Er... actually, the file KSK put out is the real eye file. It's layered, though, so you can't see everything with a regular file viewer. You have to open it with Photoshop or PSP. I've made more than a few eyes with it myself.

So, that file is it?  There isn't a sclera in any of the layers.  Sclera for me = white, reflective with blood vessels.  That thing is just smudges of white.

Yeah, that's it. I think the BFD about KSK's sclera is that it has slightly red corners which most people didn't do before. Other than that, it's nothing miraculous, and doesn't fix the blackhole eye problem. I gave up using it because of that.

I'll have to admit, KSK's eyes are very good indeed.  They are some of the best eyes out there.  I believe I have a few of them as defaults.

For the second, I'd add something along the upper part of it. A lining in a colour corresponding to the bottom of the dress, to balance it, perhaps? Also, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be two layers? If so, you need a sharper shadow between the green and the yellowish. :)

It's not really much, but I'm proud of it.

Aikane, while all quite pretty, they all look to be really lacking on the detail side of things. What I mean is where's all of the details of how the outfit was made, e.g. hems, buttons, zippers, folds, lines of stitching, fabric texture etc. You don't need to have all of these things, obviously, but adding them in will add a lot more to the outfit.

On the first dress, for example, you have a line of ribbon underneath the bust, but the ribbon just looks like a line because the fabric underneath sits as if it isn't even there. At the neckline too, there doesn't appear to be any detail so it almost looks like the designer just cut the hole for the head out of cloth without bothering to do anything else (I see this all the time on other Sims clothes, though, so it's not just you).

I will admit that adding details like this can be tricky sometimes because you can have problems with stretching and warped lines, but the detail they will give the outfits in the end will be well worth it.

Considering that (the hole in the cloth thing) is one of the biggest things that turn me off downloading stuff, I should have done that a bit better. There is supposed to be a thin shadow there, but it doesn't show up too well in the game.  :?

As for the details - or lack thereof - I was so busy trying to get the shading to look half decent that it kinda slipped my mind. There is a very faint fabric texture on the first and last dresses, but my graphics card isn't quite up to the ordeal of showing it. Either that or it's a bit too subtle for the game...

Pixelated, I could send it/upload it when it's fixed up a bit if you so wish? And I don't quite get what you mean by lining?

This time for the eyes.  The default brush size is about 10X the resolution you need for a Sim eye but they were originally made for something else entirely and shrinking and remaking the set just seemed kinda pointless.

These are samples.  They were all done very simply in Photoshop with two layers (multiply, screen, overlay, whatever) and dodging and burning until the pupil was darker than the iris.  Super easy to use and even if you aren't the greatest Photoshopper you can get pretty good results.

I use PSP, not Photoshop, but I should be able to import them with the PNGs if the brushes don't carry over.  If I figure out how to do that, I'll test them, since they seem like fun.

If you're looking for some constructive criticism....I will offer this one thing on what's otherwise a great looking house.

Consider doing some lowering of the roof level on the drawn pergola bits. The columns you are using are too short, and if you bring the floor down a bit (constrainfloorelevation trick...see MTS2 for tutes), the pergolae will match up better.

Actually, there are bajillions of tutes online for PShop and Corel Painter, etc., and I've seen eye tutes before, probably while snarfling brushes on Deviant Art (which is otherwise to be avoided).

I'd suggest de-flattening the iris. It's nicely coloured, but has the EAxian flatness retained.

Also, eye looks dry. Some stuff to try: light shadowline along top where lashes would hang over, sclera / tearducts. adding a highlight / wet look to white of eye (tuts on making glass-like ball shapes can be adapted to eyes if you can't find eye tuts).

That's one thing Maya is good for: instant blinn manips for glass, chrome, crystal, more. Too bad I don't personally own it or have an excuse to play with it, as Broadcast design isn't my major, it was an elective chosen solely to work with the 3d progs.

I got these off MTS2.  I have to say I love, love, love the shape of these.  I use part of the set allot on my "hottie soccor moms".  They are sexy, semi-sweet, and modest.  I'm not one for MILFs in string bikinis.

The problem:  I ended up deleting most of them from my game since the quality took a nasty hit on some of the recolors.  There is some wierd pixelation in the highlight zones.  I'm guessing you didn't save your original psd and are suffering from compression artifacts.

To answer a few questions... I've considered against doing contacts/masks for the most part, because I have so much stuff in that whole section already.  If I ever get pets I might make some for werewolves though, because maxis is stupid and didn't seperate eyes from skin apparently.

These eyes are whiter than most out there.. they don't have black blobbies at the top, and so therefor lack a nice "shadow" when looking straight ahead.  If you've tried my confutatis (hate that word now and I bet everyone else does too lol) schlera mask then you know what to expect.

And speaking of which, I made a schlera template PSD (like KSK's) for the eye-making challenged.  It's on my forums under "Testing grounds + goodies".  It could be a nice partner to ricket's brushes.

Ren, your stuff makes me get all giggly because it's so damn good.

I love plant sims and have been playing around with making some new defaults for them.

Currently for the actual defaults I'm using a transparency - just a tint of green with the vines.  This is an actual skin, for doing a family of 'plant sims' that don't just have the toddler to adult thing going for it.

And holy crap those are pretty eyes. Both of you! Gah, all I can make are pretty sims with body shop.

SoggyFox I like the idea of having plantsim teens. And I actually like the maxis skin that the plantsims get. The vines are pretty. But you said transparency, so does that mean that a darker skinned sim would still look dark, but have a green tint and vines to them? Because I think that would be lovely too.

Well, the default set for actual plantsims are still transparent, so yes - except for the vines and very bright, pale green eyes [ and the leafhair :D ] yes, a dark skinned sim would still be dark skinned.  Let me see if I can get a good picture.

The skin in the picture isn't a transparency, because its a full out skin, pale green with vines, new eyes, makeup [ lips and blush ] and eyebrows to match Nouk's pretty green hair.

I don't think a base skin can be transluscent, unless you are making the whole sim that way....which could be fun :)

I'm really happy with some of what i've done so far and i'd like to post them there for 2 reasons.... first, my own selfish reasons, i'd like the creator to do more and i thought doing these might give him a little incentive... second, to let other downloaders know they can make their own clothing without waiting for recolours from other creators...

I just found clothing in my download folder that i already had in the game and used that, so for 80% of it, I don't know who the creator is... of course i have no plans at all to take credit for doing anything other than following a tutorial...

Should i post them ? should i just give a general credit to who i assume the clothing came from? I don't have the time or the patience to wander the sims sites trying to figure out where the originals came from... of course having something more than "for so and so" or "www.sims2site.com" in the tooltip would have helped a lot... of course some of it is pay stuff so i'm not to worried if i hurt their little feelings...

The top of outfit is my first attempt at a Bodyshop top. Not thrilled with it, but, eh. It's based on fanseelamb's Mulder/leather jacket + tee tops at MTS2. Back of jacket, which I forgot to picture, has "quick and dirty" Criss Angel logo. It's okay, not as nicely nitpicked over as the front.

I think I would have been happier making a "necklace set" accessory, so it could be added to any outfit (much like the magician wears his) but couldn't find a tut for that, or a "long necklace" mesh.

He is wearing a little stage makeup on his eyes, as many of the photos I found included it. Nothing else.

I bloody love that stereo, and yay for the Tulip chair! I used to make loads of Panton, Jacobsen, Eames and Bauhaus stuff for original game... I'd kill for some stuff like that in my game again.

I wish I'd saved some of the stuff I made for Sims 1 too! Then I could laugh at how horrible it was and how great I thought it was. I mostly made the gothy sort of clothes (shocking, I know), and had just gobs of the stuff. I was fairly new to photoshop too, and the cut in half looking sim textures confuzled me. I got the hang of it though, and started splashing tattoos and shit all over those poor little sims.

They were only 2d though, so I'm sure they didn't mind.

I got the new "stuff" pack (H&M) on an impulse buy last night. I go into my game to create a family to see how my new clothes look and realize I have no good hair except Noukie's (It will all be deleted except for hers today) and my skintones suck in game. Again <grumble-grumble damned pirate friends of mine> I have begun to look at the quality of my downloads and it is all you pirate's fault. :lol:

I must go scour Noukie's again to find more decent, not so thin looking, not gapped up craptastic hair. Noukie's looks perfect. Thick, not sticking through my Sims shoulders... identical to her pics. So, if Noukie can make her hair look exactly like the pics she shows on her site, in game, then why can't others? I'm not even talking about Peggy either, I have no Peggy hair in my game, these are other creators (free and pay) who I fell in love with the style from their pictures on whatever site and figured it would look like "that" in game. None except Noukie's does. I hate photo shop and what gets me is that if they can photo shop it to look awesome for people to see on the net and love, then they know what in the hell is wrong with it, so why not fix what is wrong with it?

Actually... I know we should never praise the paysite owners, but... Rose has been stepping it up lately. Peggy's hair has been getting more and more craptacular, and Juice seems to be very hit or miss, but Rose's last few have been kind of... nice. I have to retexture them of course, but the pigtails and the formal kind of wispy one actually look decent in game.

Anyway, back to showing things and loving on Nouk!

I'd join the Nouk Cult!  She is my all-time favorite hair creator and have you seen her other stuff?  She is awesome!  I WUV her!

I don't think it's bad to praise good content even when it's pay.

Remember that with a few exceptions, we simply want these paysite owners to see the error of their ways and remove pay content from their sites. We claim them as victories (see Retail Sims) because what we have done to share their content has an effect.

YES, it is true that free site owners do not have the quality problem some paysite supporters would suggest; a simple comparison between Nouk and Peggy is enough to prove that point. But nor are all paysite owners by their very association with the PayPal button bad designers. I for one have a game FULL of Caravan Shop, Around the Sims, and Holy Simoly.

What we need to do is make sure GOOD designers on paysites know that we love their stuff but are frustrated with their need to sell content....that we'd donate when the pay sets go free.

Of course, there are still plenty of craptastic pay designers (coughbuntahcough), but we can be reasonable people are praise the content that is good.

Problem is, as soon as someone knows they are good, they want to get paid. And if so many good creators get paid, it influences new good creators to try and get paid as well.

Pirates! Stop saying stuff about Nouk. She doesn't seem to have noticed yet but there are a few people who like her stuff. Someone distract her while we edit to tone down the praise so she thinks she's only mediocre.

Nouk, you just keep those fingers in your ears and if you need to take them out for anything I'm sure anyone here will be happy to supply cottonwool and take up the task of reading your feedback to protect you from all the nasty comments.

I had issues with it clipping into the tiles behind it so it couldn't be flush with a wall.  It's hard to be faithful to the original for that reason.  

Legs also had to be longer to make the sims look like they're sitting on the couch!  

Texture isn't completely done.. I still hate the positioning of the muzzlepuff.

I hate how pixelated the corners look.. I want to do the mesh completely over.

That's your first object? That's really good! Very detailed for a first object (the rounded corners, the shape of the ears) - I stuck with boxes in various positions when I started trying  :lol:

Are you using milkshape? Try "align normals" on the corners - that should get rid of the dark areas.

Missangelica, can you show the wireframe of the object? It looks pretty good, but looks like there might be some weirdness in places (around the corners there looks like there may be nsides or some unnecessary triangles or something).

It looks very hard at the moment, are you going for a soft, beanbag pillow look or a harder plastic (either is fine for a bench like this)? Even if clipping is a problem you still may be able to adjust the polys a little (at the top and on the corners maybe), and certainly the texture can be adjusted to change the "feel" of the object. Pretty cute, though. It would be good for a playground.

I wanted to go for the soft look but I think it's a mixture of the mesh and the texture that's going against that.

I think you might need to weld a few vertices in the corners, you definitely need to get rid of those triangles. They're what's causing the smoothing problem.

Eta, what program are you using to model?

The chair looks to be really low poly, so good on you for that. However, in order to give the chair a softer look I think you will have to add a few more polys. I think that you're using Milkshape, so I'm guessing that why there's all the different coloured lines and it does look like you have a few nsides (check the image I sent).

I think that a soft pillow probably shouldn't be so uniform, so you might want to skew the polys along the top and pull them out at the front (on the seat and backrest) in order to give it a softer shape. Add more polys to any areas that you want to have more detail. To get a pillow shape (those kind of soft, folded edges and corners) you might want to concentrate on the corners and give yourself some more room (i.e. a few more polys) to work with. As well, I would add more weight to the middle by scaling those verts outwards to make it look as if it slightly slumping down and fat. Make sure that you always merge your verts too. You might have to do some slight re-uving, but it will really cut down on unnecessary polys.  

Don't go crazy adding polys, though! Get as much use out of the polys that already exist in the object as it is now (if the blue ones can be moved a lot of them appear to be sitting there doing nothing  :lol: ).Only add in what you absolutely need to get the shape to be what you'd like, as anything else can be suggested through a good texture so long as the shape is somewhat correct. I find that a good way is to add a few edges just near to the edges that I want to soften up in order to give it a softer curve or a more rumpled appearance. Things like fabric folds and the like can be added in through textures later, so don't bother modelling those (not that it looks like you were thinking of it, but it's a mistake I see a lot of sim furniture makers make, to my absolute horror).

Edit: Triangles can be okay in very small doses, as the game will auto-triangulate any meshes anyway, I think. I use them sometimes to give the object a more natural line or to save polys, but they can easily screw stuff up. However there is some weird triangulation in the corners that doesn't appear to be necessary.

Nouk - I think this shows a great leap forward; your curls look more natural than they ever have, and the details are stunning. The colors are good too...no flat, boring hair color.

Ah, now this I like.  Good curly hair is hard to find and considering how nicely animated the "Nouk's Own" curls are I'm eager to get this set in my game.  It does sorta resemble the 2006 hair but to be honest I wouldn't download the old one.  (It looks too much like a throw-back of a long-gone era for my game.)  The new one is a major improvement.  The two dangling pieces in the front look much better staggered than they did being of the same length.  I really dig the little accent curl near the ears ... nice touch.  The texture makes me think of someone who gets allot of sun ... like natural highlights instead of icky store-bought ones.  Besides, there is no rule saying you can't go back and redo an idea once your skillz have improved ... actually I think there should be a rule that says people should do that.

How is the polycount on that?

I used to be like you when it came to taking compliments.  Eventually an old lady I respected told me to just say, "Thank you," and leave it at that.  It was hard for me to do at first but after awhile I got used to it.  Now I even LIKE saying it.  :)

I hope its ready soon, I love the curly hairs, if only I could find some good long currly hair meshes that weren't ponytails, for when my sims are sleeping....ah well, who cares, I look forward to this one.

I am so loving that hair!  Definitely a must have.  Seriously Nouk, I have a number of hairs ingame, from lots of different people.  With yours, I have never seen better animated hair, ever.  It's awesome, and I thank you for sharing your talent.

It's not difficult, but it takes time. And it is time that people sometimes don't seem to have when they want to put it up.

What I do is make as many groups as I need to animate the stuff naturally, then animate, then regroup. Not the other way around. Animating after regrouping everything together is allmost impossible and doesn't look nice at all.

Oh and use the right hairbones for crying out loud! Not the ENTIRE tail should be b_hair or it will only move backwards! Assign to r_hair and l_hair too, to make it move to all sides. Ofcourse you need to assign the back right sides to both b_hair, hair and r_hair to make it move naturally.

If you do that, it moves very nicely. Well that's the trick! :)

And the polycount is around 3500/4000 , but if I make it any less, the curls become blocky... it's not huge but it's big. I'll get the exact polycount when I get home. Adviced not to use if your pc is slow.

I don't mind high-poly when it's excusable - like in this case :D  (if you want examples of the opposite - browse Peggy's stuff in the booty...).

I like it very much. I can't get enough of everyday hairstyles for my sim ladies. They're hard-working women and sometimes mothers - they DO NOT want waist-long Hollywood hair and 5 inch stiletto heels, dammit!

Otay!  I need a good long bob hair for my game.  If you fluffed it out a little bit so it doesn't hang like limp, greasy hair, made it a bit longer and maybe gave the edges a razor whacked feel I could see myself using it on urban sims.

Normally I hate short hair on girls, but I really like that! It reminds me of the Rihanna hair in the Umbrella video. It's nice in a simple way.

Obviously, done in a class on Maya. I'm proud of the banana. It's a way awesome banana.

Frame was a simple extrude, bottle and glass a simple revolve, apple a simple primitive, banana a simple polygon. Textures all variations using blinn.

Not my area of expertise, was taken as an elective to play with Maya.

Got semi-adept at modeling stuff, but would have no clue how to convert anything to Sims. Also, don't have Maya at home, due to cost and resources required, and no time when at grad school to mess with it unless it is relevant to current class.

Yep, everything you've made in that scene are trademark first modelling projects (I think my first bowl, bottle, glass and table are still floating around on my computer somewhere). Very nicely done, though. You'll have a ton of fun when you move away from nurbs and start working entirely in polys.

You might try working with Blender, it's an entirely free 3D modelling program. I haven't really used it very much, but it looks to be quite good (and more Maya comparable than Milkshape) so you can do a little learning on your own at no cost.

I'm actually surprised that more meshers aren't using it as opposed to Milkshape, but I guess it's newer and there aren't as many (or any?)Sim specific tutorials related to it.

Tutorials on a free program?  Would certainly mean that fewer people pirate Milkshape to make meshes.  :o  I like hair meshes.  I am weak for hair, but only good hair.

I have hair like those orta pics, only black and not so transparent :P. Only when I dont bother to blow dry it straight, it gets kind of curly, then it looks entirely different. I wish I could mesh decently cause I'd totally make a hair like that.

I used to be more used to Blender but since bodymeshing is impossible with it I had to move on to Milksahape, and when I tried Blender again a couple of weeks ago I was completely comfuzzled. But from lurking the forums on Turbosquid I learned that a lot of 3D artists uses Blender proffessionally. For Sims2 objects with Blender, Lethe_S and JWoods has written a tutorial on MTS2.

Damnit, I wanted that "Orta" Hairstyle for myself a few years ago (not knowing it was supposed be called Orta  :lol: ) but the stupid hairdressers never do what you tell them too. They always took off too much in the front so the whole point was lost. I only let my husband cut my hair these days. It's free, and he's quite good at it.

You all may not be old enough to remember this, but this is the classic Vidal Sassoon Bob. Very Seventies. Good work, Berg. (I am reminded of this because I am a big reality TV fan, and just finished up the season of Shear Genius, and they had to do a Vidal Sassoon Bob in the finals.

With Theo's Amazing Colour Binning Tool of course!  :D Do you use it or do you do it the old-school way? Anyway - when you have loaded and binned all the colours with Theo's tool and is about to save, there's an option under... eh, "Options" to "generate single package". That's it!

Uhm, not so much. Not at all. Well, I made an honest effort. First by keeping the orginal animations (was based on aflongsimple) but they were suitable for a long hairstyle so it looked wonkish. Then I tried tweaking them little by little but I wasn't pleased with the results so I ended up assigning every damn thing to head. Since it's such a short hairstyle I guess it's still looks acceptable...

You'll love the tool, Nouk! With just a few clicks you can bin all the colours and also disable certain ages. It saves so much time (one hair with four or five colours... Hmm, 1 minute? 2, max.) and is Truly Awesome(TM).

However, sometimes it just. Doesn't. Work. No one, not even Theo, knows why. But since you kept backups of your recolours (because you did, right?) it's just to start over and and watch the magic. It always work the second time for me, and it's rare that it doesn't work the first, so it's no biggie.

Yes, sometimes that, or sometimes it kills a certain colour while the others show up fine. Mostly the blonde, for me. I heard other had it happen but always with the black.

No, as far as I know, there's no known reason to why it happens. But I know Theo has a thread for the tool in MATY's Peasantry where people post their problems, so there may be answers there, I haven't checked to be honest...

I couldn't get the hang of that binning tool.  I found it easier to just follow HP's tut ... but I still am having trouble removing extra elder colors.  Will the plug-in remove extras easily or does it just remove ages completely?  I'm about to give up and just deal with my elders having tons of duplicates.  :(

Do they revert to the default servo appearance when they're not controlled, like visiting other sims or on community lots?

The plugin lets you assign a grey from one colour group to all of them - you tick the elder hair box in one colour and untick it in all the other colour groups and then when you've saved all the hairs will use the same grey.

The same works for excess age groups just untick them and save, this means they won't show up in the hair bin unless you're looking at the right age groups.

I don't do many creative things with the Sims.  I do create Sims though, just like everyone and their dog.  When I make them, I only check teens and adults, both sexes.  The other age categories don't bother me too much.  I have more than is in the album, but they are mostly "story" Sims, or otherwise not intended to breed, and thus they are horrifically ugly outside of the age group they are in.

I have no idea how well they all breed.  I don't really mind if my Sims give birth to horrific demons.  Some of them are just sex swaps, so I guess if you breed the sex swaps together, they'll make sexy clones.  But not really.

I don't try to achieve the look of various ethnicities (or even attempt to make them human--anatomy?  Pfft!)--I just give them a skintone and make them look pretty (this does not always work and then I give up and end up living with an ugly Sim).  I am lazy.  I am not racist.  I'm just stupid.  I suck at making Sims look diverse.  Also: some of them are identical.  Sometimes it was done on purpose because I'm stupid.  Sometimes it's by accident, because I'm stupid.  They all look like everyone else's Sims, though, because I give into peer pressure, so they're really only good for making me feel better about collecting SO MUCH FUCKING CUSTOM CONTENT FOR WOMEN AND NOT USING IT.

I am not suggesting anything.

They're all Body Shop pictures because, I dunno, I'm lazy.

I am happy to direct you to the custom content that my Sims so happily display.  If you are interested in any of the Sims themselves (you are retarded), please tell me so I can send you my extremely long terms of use and give you a virus, then claim I am on vacation when you confront me about it.

(Tell me the number of the Sim and I'll put it up with all the custom content unless you ask otherwise because I am lazy.  They all have names, if you are curious, so I can supply that for you and you can make wondrous stories about them.  Or claim you made them.  Or make them fat.  Or make changes to their faces.  I don't care what you do to them.  God, anyone can make a Sim.)

Grey: Personally, unless that's make-up or an edit of someone else's skin, I'd avoid all the redness around the eyes, or the big eyelids.  I know Enayla's skins have that kind of thing going on too, but I guess I'm just obsessed.  I like the body hair on the guy, though.  Haaaaaaaaairrrrrrrr.

I've tried recreating Aikea_Guinea's Mary for my own game. I think I did quite well with her profile, but something about her face in this angle still bothers me. Any suggestions? Or does she even look like Mary at all?

The hair is nice but the skin looks a lot like teru_k's BJD skin or Ephemera's stuff. Do you mean you edited to remove the joints? If so good job, but shouldn't you give some credit?

I like it.  Being a natural redhead, you got the freckles, and the pale but not too pale skintone down well.  That's basically the shade of skin i tote around all the time.  I would maybe go less red around the eyes next time, so that the sims don't look so tired?  I do like how they aren't shiny.  I have too many shiny sims.  I have too many guys that look like they're wearing makeup cause they inherited mommy's shiny skin.  I suck ass at making skin textured and realistic.  I tried one time.  I failed abysmally. So keep in mind that this is advice from someone that just uses it, doesn't know how to make it.  I haven't loaded your skin in my game, but I may, if you can say where it is.  I'd like to see what happens when I change the shape of the face a bit.

Actually... no. I know what skin you are talking about, but mine was hand panted in photoshop myself. I wanted an anime-look to my skin, but I did not use any skintone except for maxis as a base, and then painted mine over it.

I apologise if they look the same, if so, it was coincidental, I assure you. :(

I DL'd Teru's skintone to look at after I read the comment. They are very similar, but not identical. But the similarities are really close! My ears/nose are different, and tone. But Not by a lot. The lips and eyes on mine are inspired by a photo of my own face actually... but now I'm a little worried that people may still think I copied, if one person thinks so, others may make the same judgement... maybe I should keep the tone to myself. :(

I wouldn't worry about it.  Things are bound to look similar.  All the long, bun, ponytail, et cetera hair meshes look the same to me, but I have at least three different ponytails in my game.  <.<

I guess with the fact all tones need to be mapped to the same areas, similarities are bound to appear. I think the thing that really makes my tone look so close to Teru's is the nostril placement... I raise my nostrils so that they are not so close to the base of the nose, and that gives a sharper and slightly more arched look... but it seems that Teru does the same thing in the  doll skin he made... plus both skintones have that "flawless" porceline look in-game... c'est la vie I suppose.

I think that people are far too quick to accuse others of "stealing". The only time I think it's justified is when something is being sold, like what 2-for-you did to Enayla. Don't take it too seriously.

Five lots full of female servos turned into copies of sims, using the Sim Copy mirror that used to be on MTS2. No, these are not servo replacements. To ensure they keep their "sim" appearnce,on community lots, or being invited over somewhere, you will need a couple servo hacks by Squinge from Insim.All Maxis hair and outfits, and each servo comes with a simmy facemask that can be removed/changed under costume makeup. Four of the lots focus on the four hair colors, while the remaining lot has two bald servos and two mohawked servos. On the four haircolor lots, there is one servo per general aspiration,btw. All in all, you have this:

Brunette hair servos
Red hair servos
Bald & mohawk servo

As inspired by the many paysites that exist, I was tempted to make eyes with money symbols in them; however, several things stopped me:

1). My paint program is MSPaint.
2). I have no artistic talent.
3). I don't know how to make anything for The Sims 2.
4). Who would use such a thing? I mean, it'd be funny for maybe one picture, but that would be it.
5). Ultimately, it's not really useful or desirable.

Whaddya think? Now that I look at the pictures outside of the game, I think the anathomy is a bit weird around the waist and the crotch. I don't know... Maybe I'll try to fix it. Maybe not.  :roll:

I don't see anything wrong with the waist on the picture you've shown and I don't think the crotch is looks too odd, you're prolly just being a perfectionist.

And did I mention I love the texture on the right. Generally they're a nice businessey look that isn't too girly, I'm going to have to start stalking your site again until you put them up! :D

I think they all look quite nice, and I love the attention to detail (Oh! Those cute little buttons!). I think the narrowness of the hips compared to the rest of the body might be what causing them to look a little (by which I mean, "You are very fussy" little) off, as it is making the thighs looks a bit too straight.

The models are all very thin though, with a quite androgynous shape (great for your sixties theme), so I assume that was what you were going for. You might have to be careful, if you decide to adjust the body, from making it too "curvy" lest you lose that quality.

I love this suits, Berg, like all the rest of your stuff! :) If you put these up I will download them in a heartbeat!  :D
Personally, I don't see any problems with them, but I am not blessed/cursed with the meticulous attention to detail that artists have.

But since I didn't notice it in game, I think I just leave it at that (I know me - I'll start my poking and end up with a completely different and/or ruined mesh and feel so sick about it all that I just shut the computer down in pure disgust and 'forget' it existed for the rest of eternity  :lol: ). Some things also tend to look more weird than they really are in pictures (such as "the sexy walk". Not even "the sexy walk" looks so fucked up in game, as it does in some pictures out there...  :P )

Yea it is. The neck doesn't match properly, and I think it's the same with the feet.
Actually, she does remind me of storm too. When I saw storm, I wanted to dye my hair white. But that isn't possible. Especially with a perm. I'd be bald.

Keirra it is big and small at the same time. The rooms are nice and small so it won't go slow and there are only 2 trees on the lot with some flowers and bushes. I'll upload with more pictures to show you as soon as I get back from the allergist and the eye doctor. I think its on a 3x3 lot too.

ETA: Plum I'm debating on getting those clothes. My DL folder is almost to 1 GB so I'll have to do some spring cleaning before I get them. They look great though and I need some good non girly clothes for my males. Yours remind me of RabidAngel clothing which I LOVE.

12gb of downloads? I started getting twitchy when mine was approaching 1gb recently.

Of course, I also find going on deletion sprees almost as much fun as going on download sprees.

Sometimes that custom eyeliner you've had since your original 2004 installation just *needs* to go away.

What I do is everytime I d/l a new hair I take out 2 of the hairs that I don't use much. Same thing for make up. I rarely every d/l face masks and that stuff. For clothing I just wipe it all out in one big swoop if I don't like one thing in the pack, like I'm about to do to Lliella's folder in my D/l

I have almost 800 MB of CC (a little over 2500 files), and I'm still trying to cut down, especially on the HP and Fanseelamb front.  (I don't really need fifty shades of green, blue, and red but I'm so indecisive.)

Because of this thread, I went on a download spree and killed my game last night... Thing is, I always check out the new clothing in Body Shop to make sure all of the meshes are installed cause I hate like hell to create a sim and find out that I didn't get the fracking mesh! So, while I was deleting some of the stuff out of Body Shop, compie went *poof* and restarted itself! That pissed me off and gave me the idea that it was time to do some pruning of the downloads folder. It doesn't like it when it gets over two gig, which really tends to piss me off, considering all the DVD data disks of shit that I have... Anyhoo, once I get the graphics card I want, it shouldn't do that. I hope. Bastard thing. I love you guys and your creations, but my fucking computer hates them. Damn thing has a mind of its own which I would love to lobotomise, but if I did that, I couldn't play the arffing game... Can I beat it? Lightly? With a rubber mallet?? PLEASE??? you motherfuckers never let me have any fun...

PM me or reply if you want any of them. The meshes can all be found in teh booty or are a free mesh. For ease in finding: all the ones titled punk are rose recolors, all those titled just plain "goth" are raon recolors (one or two are free, i think), and the other one is a peggy recolor.

KingEliza you should do the pig tails in black and solid colors. I like the first hair with the light pink and blonde. The green and black looks wonderful. If you want a suggestion make the green brighter(or darker? )

Which green? The long raon pigtails came out with green, but that color was actually a teal blue in photoshop- i think because i had it set to opacity 25% it looked more green when placed on top of brown hair. The other green, on the black peggy braids, started out as bright as can be but got lighter because of the opacity(again).

For the pigtails, do you mean I should do stripes like I did with the peggy black hair only on the raon pigtails with other colors?

WOW! 12 gigs? I thought I had only about 3, and then I just now checked my downloads folder. 7.65 gigs! And it's all thanks to the booty Without you, oh mighty pirates, I would never have hoarded so much sims treasure.  :twisted:  :lol:

Most I had at one time and actually waited for the properties tab deal to open and go through all of it was 20gb.  It took about a half hour to load the game.  @_@  It would choke going through buy mode but it ran otherwise okay!  This was before the big resource takers expansions were out though.

Ok, here's Phase 2 of my Simford Project. What we have here is 2 lots, one for male servos, and one for female servos, ages child thru elder covered, six sim-servos per lot. Morphed courtesy of the Sim Copy mirror that used to be at MTS2, and the "age" module in the Insimenator download. I created a total of 12 sims, using base game outfits, hair, and skintones, then inititalized the servos using these sims, and had the servos aged properly, then copy the corresponding sim. NOTE: Child, teen and elder servos cannot be powered down, and will not recharge themselves. You can even send one of the teen servos to college if you wish, and they still look like a sim.
For best results on community lots, or being invited to another residential lot, use the following hacks:

And since people have different EP?SP installed, you have to go to Insim, then head to "Squinge's Mods" and look for the appropraite EP/SP related "Servo Change Appearnce" hack.

Oh, btw, these Sim-servos are 100% simmy looking, no facemasks involved.

For info on the rest of my Simford Project, here's how I have it outlined to create and upload here:

Phase 3- Simford Husbands -1 lot/ 4 Sim-servos
Phase 4- Simford Couples- 4 lots/ 2 Sim-servos per lot
Phase 5- Simford Other Couples-Elder,gay and lesbian/ 3 lots/ 2 per lot
Phase 6- Simford Families- 4 lots/ husband-wife and one child per lot
Phase 7- Simford, the town/neighborhood. Custom lots and sims.

How to use these lots:
1) Place lot in neighborhood.

2) Move out however many sim-servos you want using newspaper.

3) Place moved out sim-servos from sim bin to wherever.


Note: For best results, on community lots, or inviting a sim-servo to another
residential lot, download the Servo related hacks made by Squinge at insimenator.net.
Also, download those hacks regarding whatever EP/SP you have latest installed.

I'd call this my first PROPERLY fixed, and naturally animated meshfix so far!!  Took me a while, but I managed to make it pretty much seamless for child, teen, adult+, and for that I'm proud of myself :)

I'm not too happy with the colours, but I'd need some pointers, I think.  In my view, I'm worst at colouring blondes.

This is just one picture out of a total of eleven, since I didn't do an "all in one" picture.  Perhaps I should start doing that...oh well.

I hope the fix/animation/recolours are all decent for you guys :D  Feedback is always welcome!

I'm getting better at building, so I thought I'd try my hand at uploading a couple lots to MTS2, if for no other reason than to save others the torment that was learning how to attach a garage to a house on a foundation!  Something I can't live without.  ;)

They're not exquisitely decorated inside (at least, not up to what I like to do for stuff I play in), as I went VERY light on the CC, not being very experienced with tracking my shit down to document it, but I tried to make things look nice and homey.  Made for playing families, on smallish lots to hopefully cut down on lag.

It is so frustrating to see something I want so much, and cannot have! Those lots look wonderful, you did an amazing job on them, but I can't get them because I don't have Seasons and I don't know if I will ever get it. You've done a wonderful job, though. If ever I do get that expansion pack, that is one of the lots I'm going to go after for my own game. I install very little real estate, but when I saw those, I felt like a little kid in toy store, standing in front of the huge doll house that cost upwards of fifty bucks and having only fifty cents in my pocket. Just you wait, though! I'm gonna nag and whine and eventually, I will get Seasons, then I'm going to get those lots. They look really cool, too...

Thanks for the compliment!  And I understand how you feel, I was limited to NL and Uni on my old computer, and it felt like I'd never get any of the new shinies.  Unfortunately, those two houses aren't something I could convert back to pre-NL easily, at least with my game set-up, because of the stairs I have using the stage platform.

I have been thinking about sharing this house (http://rikkulidea.livejournal.com/4361.html#cutid1), though.  I'd have to do a few things (fix the garage door, find all the content makers to credit/reduce the CC/share the empty house), etc.  But since I built it before I installed Seasons...I think I could share it from a NL install (if I still have a pre-Seasons backup) or recreate it.

It's ok, now stop protesting! See, if I make a big enough point of being upset when I tell the husband that there is stuff that I want to get, but can't use because I don't have all of the expansion and stuff packs, he starts to feel like a heel and winds up getting them for me. Guilt trip? Yes. Deserved? You bet your hind end! See, he gets all sorts of games for his Play Station 2 and his Play Station Portable which normally just sit for months without being touched. Our son has his toys, too. He likes his shinies but prefers cartoons from the eighties, like He-Man, so the three-year-old boy is happy. But, Mom normally winds up having to play Chuzzles or Bejeweled Two or Sims 2, which I have the stuff packs up to I think it's Glamour Life Stuff, and up to Pets for expansion packs. So this is a good reason for me to bring it up again that to be able to use certain items, I have to have all of the packages. Makes sense to me!

Quinctia I'm in love with that first house. I love how you only used black and white on the outside. I also like the way you used the half wall. Never occurred to me to try that. Very nice! I like the landscaping around the blue house. It looks very natural and the pond looks great.  :D My favorite part is all the windows.

I am curious as to why you left the right side of the roof (the mini slope)  off? Was it messing up the inside dimensions? If that's the case, I find myself doing the same thing when copying real floor plans to sim. Eventually something just doesn't add up and I end up compromising.

I left part of the roof off? I thought I got it all on there. I had to rework it because the shed roof thing was being a pain in the ass. I usually just copy the outside of the house plan. The inside gets a little messy.

Berg - remember I promised you some feedback like on page 7? Finally I got a chance to install your houses and all I can say is that they're awesome. I usually don't like having 3 floors because there's too much running about and up and down stairs, but with the houses being so slim I really don't see the same annoyance here (usually I have huge areas AND multiple floors, so I guess that's where my annoyance comes from). Also, Maz got inspired by you and started building condos to match so now my neighborhood got an entire condo block.  :lol:

MizzKitty: I'm so glad you liked them!  :D It took me a while to get used to the flipping up and down the floors as well, but after some time I found that chasing my sims all over 1 huge floor was even more (or at least equally) annoying. Mini-lots FTW!  :lol:

Question: Are people actually interested in reading other people's sim stories?

I mean, I figure everyone, once they play for a while, probably starts making up stories in their heads about what's going on, but this is the first time I have this whole multigenerational neighborhood with weird shit going down.

Tasha I have a couple of legacies going, Memoirs being the most popular right now.  They are on my sim page, but I am a complete coward to even offer my fodder up to the pirates here.  I am just not ready for the comments and sure damage my stories would take from this crowd.  If you want to share your stories I would personally recommend S2C or boolprop.com both are legacy friendly and booprop is home to a couple of popular legacy writers.

Alot of people are very interested in the Sim stories. I, for one, am not, but that's just because I don't play, I just build and decorate.
I don't know of a place where you could post them, though, unless you have an LJ or a ite of your own.
But at any rate, I'm sure you'd get alot of readers.
Oh and as for format. I think most of the more interesting stories are just written like stories. There have been a FEW I've enjoyed reading and they were like little short novels or similar to that.

My main problem is that I don't really have many existing screenshots to work with, and S2C at least seems to want them in abundance. I had 'special events camera' enabled or whatever, but I didn't seem to end up with anything.

Legacy i think refers too the same family's generations. Like you start out with Bella Goth (just an example) and end up with her great-grandkids or something.

And as for screenies, just take your own. I believe there is a mod here in this thread that is more or less to help out getting sims to do what you want for the purpose of picture taking and story telling. Notice I say think. I read alot of threads and it may not be in this one, but since it IS the look what I made, it makes sense for it to be here.
ANYWAY.
I don't want to sound condescending, i dont know how much you know about the picture taking stuff, but you can just click the little camera icon and take a pic at anytime during gameplay. Plus you can always mess with it in photoshop or something if you want to change it, I guess.
I used to create houses for TS2DU and I had my own little Yahoo group and forum for a while, and when I'd make a house I would just click the  ... to make the squares go away and snap away.

You could always start over with a new family if not having those pics bothers you.

Legacy challenge = take one sim (Generation 1) of your own making, straight out of CAS, plop them on a lot, have them breed with any non-playable, choose an heir, heir breeds, repeat as necessary until you reach the 10th generation.  No cheating; heirs must live and die on the same lot.  Sims can move out but not back in.  (there are rules and variations at LegacyChallenge.com but I'm condensing).

I finished one...last year?  Right before NL came out.  Did stories for the whole thing on my simpage.  It was a fun project with long stretches of boring (to play); stories (and nice feedback from other players) helped keep me at it til I finished.

All those generations on one lot usually buggers it at some point and you'll have to move them.  That in itself was quite the challenge, overcoming/solving glitches.

Pics always helped me tell the story (that was always going on in my head).  Use the TAB key to get Cameraman mode for better pics.  The controls are:  W/S, E/Q, Z/X, A/D (maneuvering the camera); SPACEBAR for cycling thru sim selection (you lose your control panel in Cameraman mode); P for pausing and unpausing; and I never remember these right - Home/End and PgUp/PgDn for going up/down floors and/or putting walls up or down.  Easy enough to figure out once you fool with it.

And definitely tell the story the way you want to, it's the only way.   Don't worry about the pics you don't have and just work with the ones you do/will have.

I introduce you to your new favorite photo-taking cheats: "plumbbobtoggle" and "showHeadlines off" . These remove the plumbbob and stupid relationship change headlines that never go away until what you want to snap is over  :? .

I have a Gen 11 alphabet challenge family that I'm playing along with two other 'hoods in rotation, and was keeping up on the stories for them quite religiously until about a month ago (check Kari99998 on the official site). I've now stated that I won't be doing stories anymore, but it's a lie. I actually just got really behind writing for the absolute madness that was the H&I generations and am very slow in getting caught up. I mean, the K generation heir is already a kid.

As for challenges...they are meant to be rewritten, IMO. No one cares about some stupid score other than the 12-year-olds on the BBS. So use them as a guide. Mix, match, bastardize to your little heart's content. This Yahoo! Group (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/TS2challenges/?yguid=101465156) has a great list of challenges and rules.

I gots the unfurnished one  :oops: It has a very nice price for an empty house, very affordable. Furniture will come as my sims can afford it ;) Passing out on the floor is underrated in my opinion.  :lol:

For all my talented creative pirate friends, I have a question.  Is it possible to make a belly-button piercing an accessory?  Not a skin.

Technically, yes. You would make it the same way as you make any other accessory as earrings and such. The trouble, from the way I see it, is that there are many body types out there, but the piercing had to be made with one specific body type as guide, so when worn with another body mesh the piercing would float or disappear into the body (as well as when a sim gets fat). You also had to make sure you only had loose fitting clothes or clothes that let the belly show, or the piercing would appear outside the clothing which may not be so desirable.

But Nouk and HP knows more about these things than I do, so let's hear what tey have to say. Maybe there's som trick I don't know of.

One of Temptress's piercing sets has a navel ring, I forget which.  Just do a search for her on MTS2.  I love her piercing meshes, but I really wish she'd do separates.  So I know of that one, at least, but I'm sure it comes with at least a nose piercing and a few earrings.

I was listening to a jukebox with oldies online the other day, and an old Andy Gibb tune was on there.  I hadn't heard that song in almost 30 years, but, there I was singing along not missing a word.  It brought back lots of memories, but, then I thought "How in the hell do I still know the words to this song?"

It has something to so with the memories being ingrained more deeply when we are young and the brain losing it's elasticity as we age, but I kinda forget what all of the research says. I do know that the younger you learned how to do something, the longer it stays with you. That's why its a good idea to teach your kids to put stuff in certain places, that way it becomes habit. You know how they say that the older you get, the more set certain behaviours are? That's because we learned them while young and it is hard to learn new shit, cause our brains tend to get more rigid as we age. Don't that suck? While the rest of us dissolves to flab and floppiness, the brain just gets firmer. Should be the other way around, at least a bit...

Paden, honestly, you should have a syndicated column. You're very often entertaining and sometimes just plain genius.

We also typically learn better when using music or other mnemonics, because this makes additional connections in different parts of the brain. Also, you probably heard the music repeatedly and more frequently (in car, at skating rink/mall, in movie soundtrack, at home, at friends' houses, at beach or camp on portable radio/Walkman, etc.) than facts you learned sitting in your study area at home (usually the same one or two areas, same time of day, et cetera). Again, different environments, different connections in the brain.

Want to learn something and have it stick? Set it to a tune so your auditory memory is triggered, write down your new lyrics so your visual memory is triggered, then walk around your house and yard singing the new lyrics. Add some mnemonics, such as "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" to learn specific keys on a piano or HOMES for the Great Lakes, and you won't forget the info soon.

Voila!

An other trick is using words that sound the same.  For example, to for the difference between verticle and horizontal- vertigo and horizon.  Or rhymes/ aliteration(sp?)- to remember the correct way to turn screws/nobs, ect- righty tighty, lefty loosy.
But then us oldsters do learn losts of 'tricks' to help our fading memory...

I have that one, by the way, on vinyl.... as well as most of their others that were put on that medium... wow, I am soooo old! But yes, I find that when I want to do something it's better to set it to music. I had a second grade teacher who did that while we did math problems. She was the only reason I learned the multiplication tables and tell time, I'm telling you. Music has always been a part of my life, from classical, to Gregorian chants, to the stuff of the sixties and my currant passion, Robert Palmer. I've also noticed that now that we're listening to more music around here, my son is talking more and starting to sing as well. He's three and I've been worrying about it for some time. I don't listen to much of what comes out for music lately, unless it's by Toby Keith or someone else I really like. Yes, music is a wonderful tool for learning. Why do you think they set the alphabet to music?

No, not old at all.  My girlfreind became a mother for the 6th time at 42 (then the 7th at 50, but that is another story), so the 40s can be some of the better years.

Paden, I was reading, yesterday, that studies have shown that if you use longer, more difficult words with babies and toddlers, they speak faster and easier. For instance, instead of saying "luck" use "serendipity." Baby will then use the word serendipity in sentences as a toddler!

BTW, I am 54 and sending my youngest off to high school this year! Yay!

This is what I've been working on most recently-a set of casual summer dresses with flip flops.This is just an example-I have sketches for about 30. Does anyone use clothes this simple?

I do! While my sims tend to dress way nicer than I do (because I'm a bit of a slob I guess), I do lean towards clothes that wouldn't look funny on a random person on the street. I've actually been on a bit of a search for nice casual clothes recently, and the second dress in that picture is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. (I'd use the other ones as well, although I'd probably re-categorize them as formal.)

I've been leaning a lot more towards simple, nice-looking clothing in general on my sims. I have these long flared skirts and bow-necked tanks I mix and match a lot, plus lots more jean/shirt combos for both guys and girls.

Is the MTS2 changover affecting approvals, too? I submitted something on Thursday night and still haven't heard back. Wanted to add some better thumbnail photos. Doi, you can't see how freaking big that 3-tiled floor-to-ceiling painting is without reference.

Sometimes it just takes a very long time, I guess it depends on how many downloads that have to be approved and how many mods that are available. But that sounds a bit extreme.

If you go to your "subsrcibed threads" and view your post with the download, isn't there an option to edit it? I thought that's how it works but I could be wrong...

...I'd like to share it, but there's hardly anything in it that isn't custom content, so I doubt anyone would really want it in its current form.  And I think without pre-decoration, it isn't that interesting.  Takes pretty pictures, though.

Oh yeah, all those trees...it just occurred to me that house would be a real bitch to play in seasons. XD  The next contest round involves making a sim, and the house is supposed to be the set, so I'll see how horrible the house acts during gameplay really soon!

Extra gigs of RAM are always good.  I couldn't believe how awesome my old laptop was after I added a gig of RAM...too bad the graphics sucked, the harddrive was nearly filled, and my battery died so I ended up buying another one later, anyway!

Yeah, I finally posted a question and Lethe said nothing's wrong, they just have other stuff to get through first. That's cool. I wouldn't even have wondered, but there's some "history", plus the server upgrade around the same time and the estimated time to get back being over.

Quinctia, that's my problem too! I'm pretty equal on building and playing and delude myself to think that I'm a great builder, but my lots are almost pure custom content. Basically, the walls and foundation are Maxis...that's it. Usually even the roof is custom! So sharing is daunting because few would want to swallow all that, plus the file size is considerable.

I was working on a bowler hat mesh when he looked over my shoulder and said: "Why don't you make a fez?"

The thing is that he's so utterly uninterested in anything related to The Sims 2 and probably thinks I spend far too much time creating stuffz for it, so I was pretty shocked when he actually encouraged my to make more! Well, I simply had to make it!

It's not due to image compression...just merely that shade of the color. I'm working on redrawing the entire damned texture though...hopefully I can rid of it! Hmm... Did you make any changes to the texture file in SimPE? I've had textures being completely ruined after opening them in SimPE and merely looked at them (or so it seemed but I'm clumsy sometimes...)

No, Berg, the blotchiness is coming from the actual changing of color in Photoshop.  :(

Yep, Photoshop has a really bad tendency to get pixelated the more times that you make adjustments and transforms (I've noticed this especially when I'm making colour changes, even more so when the colours you are making are different saturations and not close to each other). Generally when I'm working I keep my original colour file on one layer, and only make new colours based off of the original layer and not on the adjusted copies. If you are working off of adjusted copies (for example, because you like the brightness, contrast and such), try to only make new colours based on colours that are similar in saturation and hue to the copied layer (e.g. don't make a light orange shirt based off of a dark purple one). Most importantly, always work off of separate layers! There are a ton of adjustments you can make using only layers (like playing with the individual opacity of layers and/or creating adjustment layers, for example) that will save you a lot of anger and frustration.

You'll still get pixelation (especially if you are bumping up the saturation levels as well), but I find that using only one base layer helps from it getting too out of hand especially right from the start (and helps to cut down on the amount of repainting and smudging you'll have to do). I know you weren't asking for help (and the comment was for Berg  :lol: ), but I figured this might be part of the problem.

Some costumes I made for my gay group of superheroes. I was finishing up a neighborhood  of "legitimate" heroes (Avengers, Justice League, ect), when I realized that my folk (gay) were underrepresented. This group was the solution. I'll leave the names to your imagination.

I like the guy with the leotard with the red stripes at the top (I dunno, uh, "Holiday T-Shirt Boy", and yes, "creative" naming skills like that are why I do not work in comics). Everyone else is having such a good time, and he really looks like he'd be a bit of killjoy.

I mean maybe he's got a big smile on his face from the front, but from the back he looks like he just saw the guy he's secretly in love with making out with someone who stuck a "kick me" sign to his back the day before. There's something very tragic there, and before you say it, I am thinking about this way too hard. I like the group though, looks like it would be a swell party (I'm such a nerd).

Ah, so that's his name, much better than my random nameage.
