Suzy, if it was proven by EA that what PMBD was doing was declared illegal, I know that some people have stated that they would abandon the cause and move on.  You may think it's wrong, but most of the people who do partake in it don't think so.

It's not so much about whether I personally think it's wrong, but it's causing alot of friction, and I think alot of folks get caught in the crossfire.
War is serious bizniz.

Eh, I hug more trees than anyone. I send emails to creators on TSR, but I'm nice about it, thank you (ask DOT, I'm still waiting for my cookies and cheerios). As for creating friction with the whole debate and the existence of PMBD, change is needed. Change creates friction. The people who are really getting caught in the crossfire are the KIDS who TSR and other major subscription/pay sites are ripping off because they are too young and too uninformed to know of the alternatives.

Honestly, I don't give a crap about EAxis's right to all the profit of the game (though I think they should). I care about the kiddies, and by extention, the kiddies' parents. They are getting ripped in a bad way...through the pocket.

Seriously, though, where's that email from EA, the one that isn't at Nouk's site, which stated clearly that redistribution of payfiles is ok by EA? I lost it.

What's funny is that the old site was ridiculously fast for me, and this new one is taking forever. What's up with GoDaddy?

Apparently, the fisherman's set diving board overrides the Maxis diving board. Plus, a lot of the stuff is set at $1 cost, which I hate, and beds are the 1/2 crap settings. I had to do a lot of work in SimPE to make them respectable. Never going there again.

She replied. Nicer than I thought,  too. She's giving me virtual yummies!

Dot,
While I most certainly don't support TSR, or paysites in general...might I say that your files there are absolutely hilarious. We at PMBD enjoy them. They are some of your best work yet.

Oh please~
/me feels K forehead for fever.  Puts cookies and cherrios in K's jean pockets and puts them back at PMBD.
Have you all ever thought of playing Gilligan Island instead Cheesy
Tell Pescado since what's mine is his, he is mine  I so~ own him
Thank You Smiley

No problem, I'll let him know! And thanks for the cherrios and cookies. As for Gilligan's Island, shockingly I've not seen the game. Now, if you are referring to being trapped on a desert island with four guys, I'm all for it.
I should have asked how much I can buy him for.

We'll see if she responds, or if I get banninated. Whichever.

I just have them on my CAS screen (that's how I got them, it's a custom from MTS2) and in this tiny (6x6) owned clothing boutique.

And I think that Pescado dart board will be handy for my sims who are fighting with him in-game....

Me too, but her policy says "not for personal in-game use" AND they're free, therefore I can't use that stuff because of my gentlemen's agreement way of life... ack, PWNED  Sad .
Nono. Not for personal in-game use by Pes, everyone else is cool. I'm getting it. Seeing kiddie Pes throw darts at grown Pes will be hilarious.

Yay! I have a lot of their paintings. It's actually one of the few sites that I really like some of the lots enough to add them to my neighborhoods as fillers. Love, love, love huge windows.

Damn, I know I heard about it too!, Somewhere, some time...    I only remember I got the impression that they were actual wallpapers. With reflection. I'm probably wrong.
Maybe, maybe. I remember seeing something of the sort around the time I saw these add-on crowns and moulding. Once I get motivated again (screaming at SimPE for some issues with my letter recolours of Echo's floormat having non-updating preview images has tired me out...I still need to share the darned things) I really want to take this stencil mesh I have from TSR and work on patterns you can layer onto wallpaper.

Coodles. Will check when I'm not at work. I'm not super into hentai and the sort (and I'm more aural than visual, anyways) but variety is good...especially free variety recommended so that I'm less likely to get absolutely bombarded by popups.

It is my opinion Bluesoup is talking out of her ass.
Mmmhmm, much as I like the girl. I don't believe any "EA said" stuff until I see the emails. With names. Because if I ever see something that shocks my socks off, I'd email the EA employee to have them verify they sent it. I mean, I could just go around saying that EA told me that I could make a super-SP bundled file and charge $40 bucks a pop, as long as I didn't claim I was from EA, since it requires Sims2 and therefore publicizes their product. Doesn't make it true.
357  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / You have got to be kidding me... on: 2007 July 11, 18:07:02
One could go to EA as did the creators who had left TSR. Just thinking. You've got a paysite stealing free files, selling them, and of course they are EA's package format.

I know from when it was discussed at MATY recently that Pes didn't truly really care...they don't keep the things updated like he does on the site. Let them deal with the whining when stuff conflicts.

Horror of horrors, I'm actually in Indiana, but the rest of the state ALSO shuns our little NW corner where we've always had a real timezone.

Close enough to have no peace, far enough away to make the fun stuff a pain to get to, basically. Wink
Yeah, they get DST, then they bitch that they picked the wrong time zone...which I could have said in the first place. Who cares about stupid Michigan? I'm originally from Elkhart, and they wanted to change to Central but stupid South Bend wouldn't do it.

Most artists are up for sharing.  A local Pittsburgh singer/songwriter came all the way out near where I live, in the Chicago area.
Yay! More Chi people. City or wannabe?

Someone, Dr Pixel I believe, pointed out that anyone who has modified the game has broken the EULA and this is true. <truncated>
However, everyone convieniently ignores the part of the EULA that says you are not allowed to "disassemble" or "reverse engineer" the game contents.

Simply put, this means you can't pick-apart the game files in a hex-=editor or by other means, to see how they are put together. Without doing this, NONE of the game editing tools like SimPE or any of the mesh import/export tools would be possible.
Here's the problem with that statement, and I'll bold the pertinent portion:
Quote from: "EA EULA"

Your right to use Tools & Materials is limited to the license grant above, and you may not otherwise copy, display, distribute, perform, publish, modify, create works from, or use any of the Tools & Materials. Without limiting the preceding sentence, you may not modify, reverse engineer, disassemble, license, transfer, distribute, create works from, or sell the Tool, or use the Tools & Materials to further any commercial or unlawful purpose.
The portion is specifically referring to not modifying or disassembling for a commercial/illegal purpose, not any purpose at all. This is where reading comprehension becomes important. I'm a bit shocked that Dr. Pixel didn't notice this, but then I guess he is/was a part of TSR.

There is no portion of the EA EULA that states you cannot disassemble, reverse engineer, or any other term that could possibly refer to modding or creating custom content. It is stated twice that you cannot do so for commercial purposes. It is specifically stated that:
Quote
You may include materials created with the Tools & Materials on your personal noncommercial website for the noncommercial benefit of the fan community for EA's products
So obviously it's ok to create, and it's ok to share. Just not for money.

Noticed something else:
Quote from: "EULA"
Without limiting the foregoing, you may not use the Tools & Materials to promote another product or business, or on any site that operates or promotes a server emulator.
Theoretically, then, custom content distributed freely that references a real company is against EA's EULA as well. Hmm.
