Mmm. I think part of the "rashy" effect is just caused by the sim's expression. It's stretching the skin so that some of the freckles look like dashes instead of dots. Also, the freckles go a little to close up on the eyes. Just a tiny bit more space would make a huge difference. Other than that, I think they're great. Well, they're great anyways...

Mk. So. I used to make utter crap for MTS2 and when I uploaded it I figured. "Mk, someone's gonna tell me what needs improvement, and I'll be able to improve it!" Was I right? Fuck no! Now, none of my stuff is on there because I yanked it all. I would like constructive criticism on my stuff, before I upload it ANYWHERE. I need to know what to fix, and if anyone's got tips or tricks I'd love to hear those to, but since this forum's not for that, you could PM them to me.

So is it ok, for me to post some pictures of random things I've made, and let you have at them with the swords of critique?

It would be delicious to hear some honesty instead of seeing 30 posts that say "OMG AWESUM YAY!" Barf.

So, I figured instead of waiting, I'll just post the pictures anyway. I mean, if they need to die, whip out your pretty little flintlock pistol and blast them from the thread. IDC.

I'll start with the eyes. The suck the most.

I won't post actual images of this set, just links to the photos because, lol, I don't want to junk up the page with foreverload images.

This set was called SweetyPieEyes. And, well, it still is I guess. Lame. I named the colors after pie fillings and a pietin. Cause I was a dork, thinking I was cool, cause no one ever told me I sucked.

Yellow: Banana Creme
Green: Key Lime
Dk. Blue: Blueberry
Lgt. Blue: Sugar
Pink: Strawberry-Rhubarb
Red: Cherry
Brown: Chocolate
Silver: The Tin
Purple: Plum

That whole mess of awful, was my first eyeset.

Then came this monstrosity, which I WILL post a photo of.






Then I recoloured my favourite hair. This one, I actually liked. Kind of. Only a photo of one recolor, imagine a multitude of others. Ok?

Erg...they actually don't suck.  I mean, they're not IcedMango/Lapink, but some people don't like the photo-realistic eye look.  And the hair is fine.

Well, thanks I suppose. But I want to make more realistic looking eyes. I tire so greatly of the cartoonish eyes I crank out.!! I make other stuff, clothing recolors, whathaveyou, but I like making eyes the most. Do you or anyone have any suggestions for kicking the cartoon and stuff?

I have to first mention again that I don't create for the Sims.  I have, however, created for other games and made my own Poser textures, so I can give you general tips but not Sims specific tips.

If you want realistic eyes, my first suggestion is find a decent photo of eyes.  You may be able to find some you can use royalty free at this site http://www.morguefile.com (just search eyes).  I'd recommend converting the eye pic into grayscale - then you can add and adjust colors.

If you'd rather paint them yourself all I can say is get lots of reference pics.

Edit: On a side note, I don't think your eyes look bad at all. The only problem I see (if you want realistic) is that the colors are deeper than most people's eyes.  Just desaturate the irises a little.

Thanks. Glad to help.  Photos (of the skin or eyes at least) seem to be the best bet.  Even making eye textures on a higher polygon model doesn't look as well without it. Only reason I didn't do it was I wanted to use this texture to demonstrate in my portfolio and tried to make it all 100% original, so there's no photos involved. It didn't turn out too bad but the lips are my area of difficulty.

Wow - didn't realize the link would generate so much interest.  I have a couple more if you like.  As far as I know all the pictures on these sites can be reused, but I'd check the FAQ or policy to be sure.
