Yes, I'm on the highest dose in my county and they still can't repair the damage already done, they can only slow it down from getting worse. *sigh* Do yourselves a favour and keep an eye on your thyroids, people, there are more under-diagnosed cases of hypothyroidism that you would ever dream of.

My thyroid is a leetle on the low side, so I take meds for it-like (one pill out of 5 or six for various things, doh, genetics!)
But seriously, that really sucks. My condolences.

Well, the damage can't be repaired. It just seems to me that there's more that can be done. Then again- I'm a tiger when it comes to my health. I have a disease and knew there was something seriously wrong with me before this disease was confirmed. I didn't take "Here's some antibiotics. Take them and you'll get better" for an answer from any doctor. I finally found a doctor who has a daughter with the same disease- so he knows about it and knows that while it can't be cured, it can be managed. Now, my bad days are few and far between and they're not as bad as they used to be. I love that man!

Along with that, when it comes to the thyroid: I consider myself lucky. I had to have an adenoma (non-cancerous tumor) removed- along with the left half of my thyroid gland- 15 years ago and haven't had to take meds for it yet. Hopefully, I won't ever have to. (My metabolism was rather high before the surgery- I was one of those people who can eat anything they want and not gain an ounce. Since then, my metabolism is perfectly normal.)
