How do you pronounce Rhea?  I would of said "Ray"..

Noooo!  Not you too!

I'm just teasing, Missangelica.  It's pronounced "Reee".

I love ethnic names, and I used to wish I had something more exotic when I was younger.  I have a couple of cousins who have cool names, and I used to wish my parents gave me a name like that instead of this one.

This is OT, but Granuaille was an Irish pirate from way back, but my Irish grandmother has the same name. Smiley

If Rhea is pronounced the same as the Greek titaness Rhea, it would be Rhee-uh, no?

ETA: Guess not.

That's how I would say it without being told.

Maybe it's an Illinois thing?  Most people around here pronounce it "Ree". Wink

Thanks.
The "followed by" makes it less strange and I'm sure I've read it in that context before.

I pronounce Rhea as Ray-uh.

I have never heard of anyone insist that another person was spelling their own name incorrectly.  I'll have to start doing that to people.

I'm very confused about how "a" can be turned into "uh".. I'm trying not to think about it too much because I'm starting to get a headache.

Funny. Ray-uh and Ree-uh would also be my choices. Probably Ree-uh first...

My name is Maria and people should be able to spell that, right? Wrong. People always think my name is Marie Sad (Around here pronounced Mah-ree-uh, where Maria is pronounced Mah-ree-a) and even my great grandmother got it wrong when she painted a porcelain mug for me when I was a child and it says in beautiful writing Mariea. I kid you not.

Me too. But that's just because of the people around me. We generally don't say. Ah but Uh. Near where I live. Even the teachers say Uh

Ree-uh would be like my fifth guess

P.S. Off Topic: My Ramaswami family just hit jackpot and had the 2nd set of triplets to ever be born in my game (chance is at 3%). This is so sad because they have a big sister and she is so damn fugly!

I shudder to see her and her sisters and her brother as adults....

Believe it or not, that's how we pronounce it over here too.

I dunno', I think we Chicagoans have a tendency to butcher the English language.  Most of us say "dey" instead of "they", "dese" instead of "these" and so on.  Plus, instead of asking "What are you doing?", it sounds like "Whattayadoing?"

People have told me I spell my name wrong too.

Maria to me = M-a-ree-a

Rhea to me = Ray-a

People say my name wrong ALL THE TIME. I had one teacher tell me I was saying it wrong. She kept putting emphasis on the K so my name sounded like *coming from her most annoying accent* Nah ahr KAHEE sha. When its really supposed to Nar-Kee-Shah. That's why I just said screw that and had them put NiNi or LiLi (Lee Lee not Lily)as my nickname. I have no time to correct people.

ETA: I don't like my name. I don't like when people spell it I don't like when people try to say it. Don't try you'll fail. You'll always fail. Not because you're wrong but because I said so. No but really if you don't wanna call me RedLove just call me Nii or LiLi.
