SimsControl uses TSRW for clothes, which comes in Sims3Packs, as you all know.  I would love to have the Nazariopilar's clothes in my game, but her Sims3Pack files are not compressed. The elder shirts are 20MB, that's a bit much for me. She have some gorgeous tunics, but the S3P file is 24MB.

I am still trying to understand how to compress files in S3P's just so I can enjoy Nazariopilar's work.

Use Pescado's S3rc to compress everything you like, even *.packages files Cheesy

Thanks House. I know that program and use it on all S3Ps, that's the only way I can install them. Doesn't reduce the package enough.

I heard that geneticized skins are bad (if you decide to pull them out after some time of playing with them), but if this is the result, I might forget about the warnings. I wanna alien burglars, and alien maids, and alien everything in my game!

This is actually possible without geneticized skins, I think. Somewhere out there there is a hack that allows your NPCs to spawn as Creatures. Like Zombie Maid. Not sure what exactly the hack entails - I'm still trying to find it - but I think it should be possible to have alien NPCs/Townies, and they of course will use the default alien skin. My default currently is FantasyRogue's green Canvas one, so that would be pretty awesome. Crap. Now I have to find that mod! Cheesy

Thank you for posting that! I hated that my pregnant sims weren't shower-proof. I don't go to sexysims very often, so it probably would've been another month until I noticed it there.  Grin

You can extract Sims3packs to package files and then compress the textures in S3PE. There's various tools to do the extracting from Jfade, Delphy etc.

I should go try it on those elder clothes and yeah I agree that files size is nuts.

Edit: Okay got the Elder Tunic file down from 22 MB to 1.5 MB  Shocked

Here it is if someone can't be arsed

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nzgzghz5ztj

But here's what I did. First I loaded it in JFade's 3Viewer tool. I 'installed' it but chose to install it on the desktop. It created a package file with a hashed up gibberish name which I renamed. Then I dragged the package file onto Pescado's s3rc.exe and voila 22 down to 1.5 and no launcher needed to install.

*****

Oh and found this by randomly looking at the BBS (don't ask)

Windchimes for TS3:

http://simmingitup.org/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=504 (note: you do have the register for the forum to download but the registration is instantaneous and the download is free)

Apparently, patterns won't show on it but you can change the color.

Poly count is 1882 so not so bad.

Well I was wondering if the same file being compressed with S3rc would have a different compression rate if it's a sims3pack or a package. Since I only use packages for CC except for EA's store stuff I didn't care much to find it out myself lol. Thanks for the confirmation. 'Tis true that s3rc does wonder with packages, a while ago I compressed a mere top package which was 10mo to 250ko, Awesomeware is indeed awesome!

Arg yet another forum to subscribe! Angry Damn I love windchimes so I'll just have one more log to add to my collection of one gazillion subscribes. Plus the size seems correct. (compared to the windchimes CC that was for sims 1 lol that thing was so damn huge) Great find Motoki. Edit: ROFL I was already subscribed to this one! ^^

You're welcome Snowflakes, I rarely go there myself too since there are barely new adds Smiley

I have followed your tips at MATY and they were successful, so I am thankful for this. I am afraid my brain can't figure these tools, but your tip above looks easy enough.

EDIT: I was so excited about learning something new, I forgot to post Heidi's conversion of my favorite Sims 2 set to Sims 3 @ Exotic Elements.

Somebody really needs to make a simple program to extract a sims3pack to package without some fancy pants installer asking you a bunch of questions. I know Delphy has his sims3pack installer thing so maybe try that one out.

Once you get it to a package it's super easy to compress, just drop it on the s3rc.exe file from Pescado's site and that's it.
