I hate when people have twins and rhyme their names.
Bob and Rob.
Stacey and Lacey.
Molly and Holly.
I'd want to shoot myself if my name rhymed with one of my sisters'.

Bob and Rob would be confusing, since they are nicknames of the same name.. Robert.  O.O  I liked Philip and Lilian, from the old nickleodian show ... Drat can't remember the name of the show now.  The cast was all babies.    Anyway, I thought that was creative for twins.

I use to think August was a girl's name. The people started telling me it was a guys name.
If you consider Augustus, then August does sound more like a male name.
I prefer the name Augustus or Augustine rather than August though.

My mom said if I was a boy she was gonna name me Courtney.
*thanks God she was born with a vagina*

the actor is the first person that I think of when I see the name August:

how did we get on this topic anyway?

because the actual topic was stale and there was little left to say once the paysite in questions propritress stopped coming back to argue Cheesy

about the Is-A v Ee-sa thing..we are mostly italian(only 2nd gen americans) and have a VERY italian last name (if you can say it you can't spell it and vice versa) so we use the proper pronunciation of Isabella...of course that didn't stop my moms best friend from insisting on calling her izzy...dear god i HATE izzy!

hmm so all black folk have 'i's' in thier names? i never knew that, i'll have to tell my friend derrek he has to change his name. idiotic stereotypes, geez.

And yet, though I live in the USA, far too many people use the French pronunciation, which makes me want to kick someone in the teeth.

How do you pronounce it then?

Gosh, step away for a day and the thread explodes.  To answer your question, though, according to dictionary.com, I pronounce it ni-KOHL

That's how I would normally pronounce it. How do the ones who say it in the "French" way say it? (Frankly, I can't think how else you would pronounce Nichole or Nicole.)

French say it 'NEE-cole', with the accent on the first syllable.

Okay, now I have to chime in, because my name is Jennifer, pronounced the way Phelim says it.  The only time I've ever heard it pronounced the way RedLove says it, is when someone is playing around.
Anyway, I used to really like my name.  When I was born, almost 4 decades ago  Sad  it was none too common.  Now I can't go anywhere without hearing some parent shouting it.  I'm forever turning around to see who's calling me, and invariably, it's not directed at me.  Sucks.

It's like, there was a girl I went to elementary school with.  Her name was Jolé (Jo-LEE).  Teachers were constantly calling her Joel.

I'd have kicked them in the teeth... right after I crawled on top of a chair or desk so I could reach better.

I say Jen-i-fer and Ni-col/kohl. ^^ I detest "Ni-kole". Doesn't it sound hideous!?!
And you'd think Rebecca isn't hard but when me and my best friend were little my mum got pencil cases made for us. They were fine with mine but misspelt her name as "Rebbeccah"!!!! HOW do you manage that lol?!

You know what makes me laugh? Most of the kids in my class at school are called Sarah or James. Now that's boring for you. Though I'm naming my son James, I've decided, if I have a son. ^^ We have quite a few Daniels too.

This is hilarious for bad names. I unearthed it in the first 40 pages of the Carla Niven thread I believe:

When I was a kid, all the girls I went to school with were Jennifers and Amandas - which would include me.  Amanda is an awfully hard name to fuck up but people still manage it.
Oh but they did love messing with my maiden name.  Put random letters in there, pronounce it in astounding ways and all that.
