THANKS THIS IS GREAT

Okay, now I have to chime in, because my name is Jennifer, pronounced the way Phelim says it.  The only time I've ever heard it pronounced the way RedLove says it, is when someone is playing around.
Anyway, I used to really like my name.  When I was born, almost 4 decades ago  Sad  it was none too common.  Now I can't go anywhere without hearing some parent shouting it.  I'm forever turning around to see who's calling me, and invariably, it's not directed at me.  Sucks.

I was born 5 decades ago, and my middle (and most used) name is Lynn. I believe every girl born in the 1950s in America was required to be named Lynn, at least for a middle name. All of my best friends (about 10 women aged 50 and over) are all Lynn. All through school, it was a 50/50 chance that any girl you met was named Lynn. (Or Lynne) (Laura Lynn, Brenda Lynn, Barbara Lynn, Deborah Lynn, Rachel Lynn, Jennifer Lynn, Jessica Lynn, etc.)

I named my daughter Jaymi Lynn (after Jamie Lee Curtis and myself.)
I was a big horror movie fan at the time. (Late 1970s.)

Erm, well my mother's name is Sandra Sue and was born in 1954.. and I can't think of one relative with "Lynn" in her name.

I don't know if you were joking about it being required or not because it's obviously not the case..

(And yes, we're Americans.)

In the 1960s, all girls had to have Ann, Lisa, or Kimberly in their names. I graduated in a class of 200 with 13 Kimberlys...seven of which were Kimberly Ann.

And yes, miss a, of COURSE she was kidding. I am too.

Or maybe we're not.

Yeah, we are.

No, not really.

Ew, I don't like the name Jamie.  Jamy.  Jaymi.  Jaymie.  Jaaaaaaaiiiiimiiiieii.  Any name that sounds like it should be a nickname, but really isn't, bothers me.

Someone I knew from Seaside was named Johnnie (female), and I always wondered what the hell it was short for.

It wasn't short for anything.  Drives me crazy.

My... grandmother-in-law? is there such a thing?   Is called Jonna. Never knew anyone called it before I met her, but it doesn't particularly bother me as a name. It's the only female name I can think of that could turn into a female version of Johnny. Wink

I get bothered by names too - especially those I think are half names (e.g. as you said, Jamie). I spend WAY too much time on babynames.com for comfort.
