Teenage clothes back in the Cretaceous, when I was in high school:  bellbottom pants, mohair sweaters, pleated skirts, and very loud tights.  Consider yourselves lucky.

I have some bells, but I prefer very fitted pants and oversized shirts and sweaters - also, the long full skirts that really haven't been in style since the 80s.

I think it's the tightness of the toddler outfit that makes it really look "slutty."  I've seen little girls in tops of that style and they don't look bad at all. But usually, they're wearing them with loose fitting pants, and the shirt is usually pretty loose too.  Not so loose that it's slipping off the shoulders, just less... clingy.

It's not just the midriff that's wrong. Just imagine trying to get a screaming kicking toddler into a skin tight pair of capris and a tiny top! Can not be done. There's a good reason children's clothing is supposed to be loose on them. It's called convenience and comfort. But then again people who create stuff like that are 12 and have never tried dressing a child

Really?  Most of the time in the summer, the toddlers I see are showing more than midriff.  In the park near us, it's not uncommon to see kids under 3 running around in just a diaper or shorts.  Not that I'm a pedophile, but honestly, I cannot see what can at all be "sexy" about a toddler's belly.  They're usually a little rounded, and very very child like.  I never looked at the mothers of those toddlers and thought, "how can they dress them so sexy?"  I dunno, but a half naked toddler, or a toddler showing a bit of his/her belly never makes me think that the parents are trying to sex the kid up for the public.  It's when the clothing is tight, and/or looks adult. 

To me, the worst example of a sexed up child were the pictures of JonBenét Ramsey.  That little girl was so tarted up that she just looked creepy.  And it wasn't just the make up, although that sure didn't help, it was just this look in her eyes that said she knew a lot more than she should have for a girl her age. I always hoped that for at least some of her short life she had times where she was a normal little girl.

As far as the midriff thing goes? It's a case of YMMV. I have a daughter, and I never dressed her in midriff flashing clothes. If we went to the beach, she had on a swimsuit.
I am probably a little paranoid, due to personal experience with Paedophiles - nothing major, but I am very aware of things like that.

I don't see a child running around topless as 'sexy'  I mean, a toddler looks like a toddler looks like a toddler.

I do see a point in the cosmetics and the 'adult' kinds of fashions, unless its one of those 'dress like mom' things, done to be cute - for example, my mom took a picture of me in a playboy pose when I was one - to send to my dad overseas to be -funny-, not sexy.  She sent him the magazine pose, the pic of me to him while he was in 'Nam

Many people I know believe that girls and boys who dress up like that will turn out to be slutty. I don't try to understand their way of thinking, since they're entitled to their own opinion....

My youngest stepsister is constantly being shoved into too-tight Capri's and sleeveless tops. She's two-and-a-half. When I'm babysitting her, I usually dress her up in 'normal' toddler clothes. Of course, I get in trouble for it, but I think comfortable beats stylish at that age.

One of my cousins who has kids is quite the fashion queen.  One new years, we were all out at a party, when her 3 year old wanted to take off her cardigan (it was a little chilly).  Why?  Because the cardigan WASN'T SEXY.  The kid's words.

WTF?  I guess she got that from her mum.  Ugh.
