EA and paysite! :(

They are simply moderators, they lack the power to delete SimPages since they are now connected to a EA master profile and there is that issue of then NOT being employers of EA and so NOT allowed to preview the site members privileged information.

Of course the administrators likely can do it and the fact the page is still up and the downloads not been taken down indicates there have been some "failure of communication" as in "they banned you but do not inform the administrators so their ban not is overruled".

Is because of SimMasters and the like that I have a natural distrust of any site moderator.

I know Sim Masters are volunteer BBS moderators, but I don't really have much of an idea as to the extent of their powers or access to confidential information. I believe they're responsible to MaxoidDrea but I'm not 100% sure about that.

On one hand, I'm surprised that EA still uses volunteers to moderate their forums, since it's potentially a legal issue and Ultima Online got sued over something similar years ago; on the other hand, I'd be surprised if they let a volunteer forum ban accounts but not have access to some account history (to figure out who's a repeat offender) or be able to remove MySims pages and uploaded content as well; on a third hand, if it does have to be deleted by a Maxoid, it's quite likely that they just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I do know that I've had a link to Money Better Spent in my BBS signature for months now, and never gotten hassled about it; while I'm a very occasional poster over there, I've poked at MaxoidSam in the (now-removed) SecuROM forum a few times, so I can't really say I've been flying under the radar. The booty is also often-mentioned by others on the BBS, and doesn't seem to be an instant ban target either.....

I'm confused. Maybe rum will help.

Its still quite common (after all who would do it? the only forums that I know being with paid staff are or were WotC forums), also remember you are very limited to what you can do about a BBS or a forum and keep in mind you do sign a Terms of Use when registering.

Moderators usually are locked from the sensitive information, they are usually limited just to edit and delete posts or close and delete treads, the serious stuff is usually left to administrators, of course there are loopholes but they are not ever going to be able to see your EA account since it can have your credit card information.

I have posted several times in reference to paysites, and their violation of the EULA, and you won't find any of my posts anywhere. The reason being that in each post I have pointed out their listing of TSR as the top fan site on the BBS forum. Why I have not been banned is a mystery to me, I neither care nor wonder why they do what they do at the official site any longer. I have made my point endlessly with regards to TSR and their promotion at the official site, nothing has ever been replied to, nor dealt with, surprise, surprise. I don't even get private replies in my personal e-mail.
Of course I have fired off a very angry letter to Lawrence Probst, the CEO and Chairman of EA. That has never been replied to as well, another big surprise. (serious sarcasm here folks)
All I really want now is the slow painful demise of EA, to hell with the paysites as well, but the destruction of EA is what now holds the greatest appeal for me.

The post that Maggie posted sent me... into a blind rage and ended me with gnawing on a cruskit while staring at the screen in horror.

Here it is folks, the moderation that tipped EA in favour of the %$%#&@B *@*#&*@# @*^&#* @#*&&# AND *#*$#A$& websites that are bleeding the community dry!

And their excuse? That they are following the wishes of the webmaster. Who is charging for PIXELS that EA first created.

It's utter shite to use that paid/donation nonsense as a reason for anything they do on the official site.  Reeks of toady and I idly wonder what a higher up would say about it.  If they're going to go there, then they might as well ban people who upload any FREE off-site stuff to the official site, or take credit for something they found on the Exchange - what is the difference?  It wasn't made by the person uploading.  Fan sites' rules regarding CC distribution do not apply to EA at all nor what they do on the official site because all your mesh are belong to them.  

There is nothing nowhere nohow from EA denouncing filesharing in any way, quite the opposite.  EA cannot tell Calalily, for example, what to do or say on her site as long as she's got that mandatory dissociation statement on it (I'd say also that decidedly adult CC might be a reason for EA to take steps against a site, but there's plenty of those around and nary a peep about it).  However, it certainly doesn't work in the reverse when EA already owns the rights to things made with their own flipping game code...yes?  They're gonna stop the circulation of CC they themselves encourage and actually own in the end 'cause someone's pissy about getting paid for something they aren't supposed to be charging for?

Burpie was assigned to manage the SecuRom forum. She assured everyone that uninstalling BV removed it, talked about choking people with usb cords, generally made everyone furious. The maxoids demoted her. I'd link back if I every went to the BB anymore, but I don't.

I think that the obnoxious AussieKoala who stalked the board was actually her. Now they moved everything back to the tech help board.
