The thing about wiki is it tends to correct itself in the long run- you get 3 or 4 jackasses making an article, it'll be full of lies and propaganda, but by the time you have 30 or 40 edit warring back and forth, generally the article ends up being someplace inbetween.
But it's hard to tell how long an article's been there or how accurate it is on first glance.

I use the Wiki a lot for work, again, just for basic facts, dates, lists, that sort of thing, then, as Neriana said, to springboard elsewhere. Wiki is excellent as a starting point.
