I rather like XMS textures, they have one huge advantage against most of recolours - their file size is way, way smaller. Textures-shmextures, I don't spend that much time gaping at my sims' hair anyway.

Also, I cannot be the only one who prefers short cute hair like ones by HystericalP or DJMur rather than those "Explosion in the bedsprings factory" styled Peggythings, right? ...right?

I'm glad you said that because I went to have a look at Helga's site (I've not read this thread before) and although the hairs look nice and I'm sure they're well made, I can't actually really tell the difference between the styles - same with Rose Sims/Peggy - they all look the same to me.  Big and messy and get in the way when you're eating.

I agree entirely on the downloading meshes thing. The problem is that so many people are raging assholes about who can put their meshes where that creators have to jump through hoops to use the mesh. It blows.

It was that very experience that prompted me to ammend my TOS and allow people to include my meshes (few as they are) with their stuff...I'm more of a texturer than a mesher and it's always such a pain tracking down sites, pages, links, especially with iframed pages etc... :evil:

Yes. I would much rather creators just include the mesh, give credit where credit is due, and that's good enough. People can get pissy all they want but the fact is people will download it and not drop the quest because they have to go hunt through pages of a site in another language and guess which one it is.

I love shorter styles. I only have, mmmm, one pouffy style I think. Sort of for whenever I get a sim that needs big hair.  :lol:

Just make sure that brick is thrown at the MESHER, not the texturer.  Though I suppose it IS a conscious choice if the texturer is to use a mesh they know they can't include.

Not including a mesh that CAN be included.  Those guys may be flayed, then stoned.  That is just laziness.

Good God! What are people thinking?! That's just crazy. No way would I go through all that work for a lot. I won't even go search for one hair mesh let alone 50 object meshes.

I avoid all this craziness by just using Maxis stuff in my lots I share. The downloader can gut it and pretty it up to their liking after they get it. I don't care.

Good god, why do people bother to download the lot?  
Some people, like Loverat, actually include ALL the CC in another rar file (or three, in one case lol), in which case I suppose it's better.  Organizing all that would be a mess, though.  

But it's probably easier for someone well known in the community like Loverat to get permission from all these stark-raving-crazy creators than it would be for the average lot builder.

This is why I rarely download lots unless everything is all inclusive. This is one thing TSR is actually good for, most of the FAs that make lots use things that they know can be included so when you download something it comes with everything you need. CycloneSue has quickly become one of my favourite lot builders ever because of her awesome buildings and the fact I don't have to hunt shit down.

*edit* Yeah, it is a pain when you get one of Loverat or CycloneSue's lots and have to organize everything, but I'd still much rather deal with that than going on a scavenger hunt for meshes.

I never could get heavy into downloading residential lots, it's easier to make them myself and keep them basic. I'm way too damn lazy to make my own commercial lots, however, I admit it. ESPECIALLY all the pretty gardens I love so much. I'm a horror at landscaping.

it's a commercial lot, a shopping mall. I wanted to play a zombie apocalypse scinario, and every small zombie-infested town with brain-eating zombies HAS to have a shopping mall. It's as much a staple as a fat stuck-up rich woman with an annoying small dog having 2 first names.
