Just how stupid are these people?  They know their super sekrit forum has been infiltrated and that it's inevitably going to be made public.

See, that's what I was thinking. They know it's going to leak, they know they've been "infiltrated" and yet they keep up the suck. I can think of only three reasons for that:

1. Pure unadulterated stupidity. Not likely, since they take the leak seriously and know it's a big problem.
2. Pure unadulterated genius. Even less likely. If they'd be slipping us false information to later expose us as frauds, there's much better ways to go about it.
3. Actual honest to goodness belief that they're fighting the good fight. Most likely. I think they simply can't understand tha what they're doing is wrong, or a little creepy at best. I you can't tell your own flaws, you can't hide them.

You know how they say that 'if you go free, you'll fade into obscurity' (ok, paraphrasing there)? Well, I hate to burst their bubble, but I've never heard of most of these FAs at all. Only the ones with a bad rep (Dot, Evi, OpenAssJack etc.). I could name a heck of a lot more free creators than I could TSR FA drones. 

Also, GoS - Stealing your FAs since 2008. I think Lieg should make it our new motto.

I really think that whole 'fade into obscurity' thing is something they purposefully encourage. It may even be part of the indoctrination, to use a big word. After all, and I don't care if you're free or pay, nobody likes it when they go through the trouble of creating something and nobody downloads. Free creators especially only have the recognition of their downloaders to keep them going. It's a big, scary threat: stay with us or nobody will see your creations ever again.

It's very effective, even I would think twice if they threatened me with that. And that's what makes it so dispicable.

Phoenix Phaerie is also an SA on TSR.

I know, but they make it sound in their post that she's -only- on TSR and that being on TSR has saved her from being somewhere like MTS@, which is too adultz for TSR and their child friendly ways.

Wow, reading that thread makes me now firmly believe that every single one of them is NOT making things for this game because they enjoy creating or sharing their creations. It's only either money or being worshipped and that's it. Everyone should see that thread so everyone knows what a buncha selfish, whiny assholes they are. I wouldn't give any of them a frickin dime. 

Not to say that they aren't assholes, but to me that whole thing read more like people's feelings were genuinely hurt and they weren't so much concerned with the money - at least during this particular discussion. I know I'd be hurt be if I'd done something I was really proud of, something that hadn't been done before, and then was passed over for recognition - with that "recognition" going to someone nameless, whose accomplishment is unknown to me, other than that it was apparently better than anything I've done.

I know I'm super late here (I mostly lurk here), but the thing that made me pissed over it was that opposition against good stuff being featured.  I can understand being hurt if your creations are passed over, and that bonuses thing does hurt, but the issue I have is that BECAUSE it's pay it must be better, so there is no need for those slots for free creators.  It makes it murky because of the pay line, but take MTS2.  If a creation is featured but yours isn't, it just means make something else.  And features and picks and front page stuff is all well and good, but you really should be making stuff for yourself anyhow.  And if I remember correctly, one FA liked the front page stuff because of the extra traffic, and a lot of days there was no FA stuff to show.

The only thing that catually worries me is the shift from pirates=evil to free=evil. The first one I could understand. It was still wrong, but we are actively and giddily causing butthurt. The second one... Well, their delusions are starting to show in a rather Lovecraftian way and it has me worried.

Actually, I think this has been part of the paysite mindset for a while - that if you're free, you are wrong, bad at creating, deluded, or a pirate.  That was a bit of an undercurrent in the arguments supporting paysites - that you're better so you deserve money, that you're a good producer and thus deserve money.  I think it's been that way for a while - just they only ever say it to people who will totally agree.

I totally agree - I don't know who most of these people are, and what they create.  I know Chaz and Jirka (who are indistinguishable to me anyway) but the rest of them - I wouldn't know anything but the worst of the crap they create being showcased in ugliest paysite creations.

Maybe if they weren't in the giant morass that is TSR, I would notice them - but there are so many files locked off that I wouldn't even bother to see whose name is attached to them - they're just part of the pay group. I mean, if a file is locked off, I'm hardly going to search the creator's name and see if there's more shit I can't have.

I'd click on a free creator if I like their stuff and see what else they have to tempt me - and their names become well known. Say Anva, Enayla, Bloom, Marvine, General Zoi, Ghanima, plasticbox, LordDragonstone  - absolutely all of these people are on big sites and I know their names without a look and in a couple of seconds - mainly because that time spent staring at the page while I download means something. I wouldn't even bother to differentiate FAs apart from to say which truly spectacular fail they specialise in.

Yeah - and since they get paid per X amount of downloads, seems like it is the money that concerns them most.  After all - they might miss some.

Honestly, post #32 by dot scares the shit out of me. It's obvious she doesn't have two brain sells not occupied by the creepy cult's mentality, her blind support of tsr is so creepy. I mean if tomorrow tsr decided to start butchering small children and puppies she sounds like she'll be the first with the knife.
As for notoriety, they're batshit crazy. The best creators I know are free, and the worst? Well they reside in that cesspool. You've seen them, we make fun of them in the payshit thread.

Excellent point. I know many free creators by name and can find the way to their sites blind. Because I don't have a choice about whether I want to pay or not. I simply don't have money, period. Why the hell would I (and others in my position) be checking pay stuff? It's been mentioned before, but the only reason I know some of the TSR creators' names is because they have a very bad reputation.

Still, that won't change anyone's mind. Once you're convinced tha there is no life outside of TSR, that's it. You're in for the long haul.

Is this a relatively new thing for you guys? or has she (?) always been like this? Coconuts journal is really the first time I have heard of DOT. (except for the poor atwat thread of course)

I've had very little actual contact with DOT, but she's definitely a bit nuts. However, she had hit me as a very amusing and fun nuts before. Now, I'm not so sure.

Once again, they completely missed the point.  All the stuff the GoSlings posted wasn't about hating on TSR, it was because they loved LDG's stuff and wanted her to stay free.  It wouldn't have mattered if they announced her being a FA or not--someone on GoS would've been looking at her stuff, seen she went pay, and the same thing would've happened.

Yes, if you make shit on the level of Evi, being a TSR FA is probably the only way to get more than 2 or 3 people to look at your stuff.  But if you're good, it doesn't really matter where you are.  I know I'm not the only one who'll go through a site in a language I don't know to get the shinies.

 That is the main reason I have the translator for FF. 

  I have been worried about Evi's personal fixation on children since I saw that huge signature that says something about "It's all about the kids" or something equally terrifying. The begging smiley with a rose asking to "hang out with me" is also scary. Next it will have some candy or ice cream and ask if the children can help find its lost puppy/kitten.

Exactly--and think of all the free creators who have their own sites who are far from obscure.  I mean people talk about "noukifying" things all the time--I can't think of an FA whose name has gone one to be a verb in the community.

Honestly, I had no idea she was on TSR.  I know her from MTS2 and would put her in that list of Calalily's.  Her Tuscan Kitchen is my favorite and I put it up in the pay vs. free thread here.  I hope she isn't being woo'ed by TSR, I would hate to see her go pay.

Actually, iirc, Phoenix Phaerie was originally mostly on TSR and has shifted over to MTS2 - I could be wrong on this, but I doubt she'd leave MTS2
