I haven't actually heard much of her. I simply tend to try to empathise with people. I'm the sort of person who believes everything has a reason to be how it is.

Yes.  But its okay, being normal is weird.

Even if everything has a reason, that doesn't mean everything has a good reason. Very often the reasons include: laziness, ignorance, stupidity, cowardice, and being obsessed with lamp laws.

That may be, but when you get writer's block, I bet you don't churn out crappy stories and then try to sell them to people.  I believe no one faults DOT for feeling uninspired, it's the *selling* of uninspired bulk crap that people object to.

Unfortunately far too many writers who are dependant on that paycheck do turn out crap and sell it.  It's called being a hack.  A lot of TSR creator's have turned into hacks, unfortunately.  I used to love Sunair's stuff when she was on her own site.  Now she can't even make a bed with blankets that actually cover the Sims.

ScurvyCat  Yes, they have turned into hacks.  This is something I wish more in the community understood.  When you create on a deadline, for money, quality drops.  Free creators take the time to test their work.  They take the time to make it as well as they can.  It is the end result, the creation, that they care about, not a paycheck.  They don't feel pressured to produce on schedule.

A lot of free creators also have volunteers test their work - usually with varied EPs & SPs, just to be sure. FAs can't exactly do that, because that would be giving away the 'merchandise'. They can share it between themselves but that doesn't help much, what with them being a bunch of ass-kissers. After all, it's quite difficult to get a proper critique from an ass-kisser!

*Shrugs* it's all in how you look at it.  Personally, I think if Dot is going through a "tricky time" she should, oh, I dunno, quit making crappy lamps and stop drinking the TSR Koolaide. 

I have little to no sympathy for Dot.  She hasn't been tricked or fooled into being there.  She's a General in the Thomas is Great and TSR is the Way and the Truth army.  If she's in any type of rut, I can only pray it will continue to get worse.

It's also that nasty roadblock where creativity meets commerce. Inspiration and quota don't always agree. It's a particular type of artist that can make it work. Most can't. Just ask George R R Martin.
