My take on "creativity" in SIms 3 has been "Boring made ugly."  This pretty much sums it up.

It looks like EA is trying to give people more modern content to work with, but very much failed at it.

Oh God, I just saved the price of a copy of Sims 3. You gotta be kidding me, they actually offer that crap as content? If that's an example of what their much-touted custom texturing is going to produce - PHAIL!

I hate to say this, but that red lamp makes even the "Petstool pretending to be a lamp" lamp by Dot look fantastic as hell.  Honestly, who is doing the meshing for TS3? Drunken Monkeys and crackheads?  (No insult intended to drunken monkeys and crackheads) 

And look at the leopard skin one.  Paleoanth you're ugly, the patern goes inside the lampshade.   Wouldn't it have made more sense to make that two separate areas to cover?  Since most of the lamps I've seen in that style are likely to have one color on the outside of the shade and one on the inside.

The marble and black one?  I would have put the marble on the base and given the shade a white or pale solid color shade.  Most lamps do not have marble shades.  But, that's about the best looking lamp of the bunch and even that is pretty ugly.

I don't know.  I think the right textures on those lamps might make them look alright.  But DOT used metal and stone for lampshades.  I'd like to see those with cloth textures.

EAxis has always made ugly shit for the game...my 5-yr old niece has better taste
So it only goes to reason that they would hire a DOT to make lamps for sims3!

EA (or maybe Maxis still existed back then?) has had a history of having CC creators make things for the Sims games. I specifically remember them doing some sort of clothing contest for NL, but I believe they did it all the way back in TS1 days. What's interesting is that AFAIK, they've always been free creators up until now. Well, that and the fact that they were never as ugly as those godforsaken lamps. *shudders*

It was Maxis during Sims 1, they had a costume contest and the winners were added to the game. You could download them if you wanted to, but Aspyr actually ported them and put them in the next expansion of the game (can't remember which one it was so long ago).
