Well, all this started because of a remark about smell.  

What I have read (as opposed to heard, which is much less reliable) is that Japanese people tend to smell of fish to Westerners, and we tend to smell like butter to them - this is solely due to diet, and has nothing to do with genetics or natural smelliness.

There are fundamental differences genetically which can change smell - such as the amount of underarm hair - which varies between the caucasoid, mongoloid and negroid races, but the difference is minimal.  Neither is less or more smelly - unless like Pescado you don't shower, and really people like that are in a race of their own - hopefully separate from the rest of us.

i disagree.  although i concur with the diet thing.  it is even said the more fats you eat, the stinkier your sweat is.  lord, i'm pretty sure opJack is an expert on this, what with his sniffing his shit and all after a cup of coffee.  generally, whites and blacks do have more pronounced scents but wether one finds it disagreeable or not is a culture thing.  and it doesn't necessarily mean it's a nasty smell.

I was just thinking this.

Whether or not you smell has more to do with your diet than your race you 'tards. More green vegetables and less meat = less body odor. You can test this yourselves.

i'm not lactose intolerent, i'm milk and ice cream intolerent.... i can eat pretty much any other dairy product though i do get sick if i eat too much cheese..... 0_o

I have a milk allergy but I can eat cheese (don't like it much) and ice cream without problem, just not milk. there's various protiens in milk itself that get broken down when processed that one can be allergic to.

Also, you have to consider that (IIRC) females have more senitive noses, evolved so they could locate their children by scent if needed. I've noticed my black friends smell different than my white ones, faintly; also, my mom smells different than other white women I know, except there are a few who smell faintly like her, so it's gotta be some weird diet thing or something. And who can forget old-lady smell? And then there's the smell of your lover's natural scent, which is an instant turn on in my case (not his sweat, just his skin).

I know a few people who I cannot make the bridge into actual friendship with simply because I don't like the way they smell. Not that they smell nasty or anything. They just smell wrong to me.

My husband, on the other hand, smells delicious.
