THANKS THIS IS GREAT

I've already posted this at S2C, but pirates deserve to crow about it too.

A “Fan Site” is a personal, noncommercial web site, created by you, that is freely accessible to the public and dedicated to promoting one or more games published by EA.

In the Nightlife Fansite Kit available from TheSims2.com - seems pretty damn clear to me.

And now, here's some rum and a lolcat.

Yeah, but that ignores the first half of the sentence, commas and colons be where they may.

A “Fan Site” is a personal, noncommercial web site,

If the official site would read their own definitions, we wouldn't have to read the shit that's spewed about TSR being the biggest fansite.

But it's not commercial when they only take a buck or ten from each person to feed their chilluns.
Typical Pescadette to not care for the chilluns. :x

I wonder, would there be nearly as big of a fuss over paysites if the subscription prices were considerably cheaper? Say, one dollar a month. Not debating, just curious.

Or what if all donations were completely up to the donator, a bit like a tip - in theory, you could pay a penny for a set or something. (Haha, wouldnt that COST them money in paypal fees? lol Or they would just end up with nothing...)

that is indeed an interesting thought, silvercoin... But i think, at the end of the day, ppl would still be mad about it. The principle would still hold (although...maybe not for so many people?).

That's how Around The Sims is. You make a onetime donation of whatever amount you want and have access to all the files. I think that if all paysites were like that, you wouldn't have the same anger.

Under that definition of a fansite, TSR is neither noncommercial nor personal.  And of course there is no open access to materials.  Oh the hypocrisy!

Also, and maybe I've just not noticed it before, there are RECOLORS of FREE meshes at TSR that are pay only.  Is this a new dumb and insulting practice, or has this been going on for awhile?

Nah, it's been going on for a while now.

I used to leave comments to the FAs if their recolours of free meshes were pay. I was always very polite as I told them that since the original mesh was free, the recolour should be free also. No flaming, no mention of PMBD. But, alas, all the comments were deleted pretty quickly, so I gave up.

Didn't get banned, though, which was IMHO a bit surprising.
