1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Well here we go, I present the first TS3 Pay items thanks to Peggy on: 2009 July 29, 20:32:34
I've posted on Peggy's forums regarding theft of the Helper Monkey and my floor thingie.  And reported it.  I'll be raising a much louder stink soon if nothing is done.

All stuff made with DABOOBS (which Rose acknowledged in her big thanks message) are file share friendly.  So her pay stuff can be happily reposted without her being able to complain too much.  Of course, using Wes's tool means she shouldn't be selling it in the first place, but I guess she should read the fine print before just clicking through...

Missbonbon - Eventually, yes, once I get the hang of doing it myself reliably.  It's really -not- easy though.  Part a science but a lot of it is still an art.  A tedious, masochistic, "god I hate meshing so fucking much" art.  It'll probably be more a tiptorial than a tutorial, geared toward folks who already do some meshing but just want the rough parts explained.  And won't be coming super soon though I may post a real basic summary when D posts up his tool.  Hard to find enough time to work on the meshes themselves these days let alone teach others how, but I'll try.  Smiley

Not just close - doing it successfully.

I'm currently working on converting one of Nouk's male hairs (the Sport short hair) for all ages.  Possibly also for females too because it looks pretty cute on them (though still needs some fixing up).  I've also got my Cherub hair about 60% converted (the remaining 40% is the shitty horrible part that I hate - control maps, how I LOATHE YOU).

Part of this is putting D's tool through its paces and finding the bugs and working out its kinks..

I'll be concentrating on decent male hair out of mine and Nouk's catalogs at first, since I have a feeling TS3 male hairs will be the same My Little Pony WTFery we had for TS2, but after I get the hang of it and have it down to a science, I'll start plugging forward on more of Nouk's pretty hairs like the dreads and fluffy ponytails and whatnot.

I am curious as to who knew the details about the theft of buggy's work before the hacking.  If we are to believe that it was a coincidence or that the hacker seized an opportunity to exploit the Buggy theft then they would have had to know that the complaint was even made.  This all happened pretty fast and most of the details of what happened went on behind the scenes with Delphy and his staff and then the reporting to the TSR staff.  Most of us (the greater community) didn't get the details until after or near the same time as the hacking.  The hacker needed to know that this was happening in order to take advantage of it.

Buggy posted regarding the theft in The Ranch on MTS - it's a "private" forum, visible to winners of the various MTS awards (moomoo, mocca, latte, and features) so, while not visible to everyone, there are quite a few people who can view it.

Someone wanna gimme a quick summary of the Coconut thing?  I don't keep up on the drama like I used to.  From what I can get the gist of, Coconut is an... unknown TSR insider posting shit about them and somehow flying under their radar?  Was the DOT tutorial thing on spotting faked screenshots to try to discredit Coconut's stuff?  Yeah, I know, search moar, whatever - someone wanna type a couple sentences to help a lazy bitch out?

Tadaaaahhh: http://forums.sims-community.com/showthread.php?t=66708

D's fixing it so the pics don't stretch the thing out (so it might be picless for like a minute or so) but there's the proof for all to see.

As for the hacking, I agree with Palo, that we need proof. Cause right now Thomass could release a statement and it would become he said/she said.

See Sims Community, um... shortly.  Proof is coming soon. They could still potentially go, "It's all lies, they just Photoshopped the whole thing!1111one" since it's all screenshots, but they've got motive, means, and opportunity, and we have pretty freakin' conclusive proof.
8  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR: In Ur Accounts, Deletin Ur Stuffs! on: 2009 March 30, 11:24:33
I am presently receiving reports that the hacker who hacked Buggybooz was none other than Thomas himself, it seems. BEWARE! And NEVAR FORGET!

If there is proof of this, can't Delphy or HP (Hi HP!) press charges?

I think cops and prosecutors are busy enough with real crimes to spend their time and effort on a case where no real harm was done - yeah, it's assholeish, but we got the files and threads back without too much trouble, and now they just look like mega-douchenozzles.  Public ridicule in the community seems the way to go here.

Why is she listed as banned?

The account was temp banned by staff with lower-level privs until it could be secured by those with the ability to do so.
10  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Insim under new management! on: 2008 December 05, 00:51:03
I had an idea related to all of this.  One thing I've heard a lot from various people is that they almost feel sorry for Walt as he's clearly clueless.  Now, a businessman should be intelligent enough to research what he's getting into before he buys, but at the same time, a lot of what he's run afoul of are issues of community culture, which aren't exactly spelled out anywhere and would be hard for someone who doesn't know the community to learn about in some Google searches.  There's also a lot of individuals that I don't think quite understand why some of the things he's done have rubbed so many in such a terribly wrong way, again because of a lack of understanding of the community culture.

I personally found it pretty sad, that first long thread where he clearly didn't know who anyone was, including people like Delphy and Pescado, and his continued ignorance with the whole "someone called Pescado" thing.

So, feeling kind of diplomatic, I went and typed all this up  (warning: I am long winded!):

http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=63845

... which hopefully explains to someone as clueless about the community as Walt why him doing what he did pissed so many people off.  I'm thinking that once InSIM is back up, I'll post it there in Site Issues recommending he read it.  It may not do any good, and I don't propose that it should change anything about what the community does, but it may at least make him realize why everyone has had such issue with his actions.  And it would certainly eliminate the "well gosh, he just doesn't know better" type stuff.  Kinda hard to sympathize with someone if they have the info and then choose to ignore it.

It's not perfect - it's almost 2 AM now and I'm tired and my brain is fried.  Any lack of including certain people/sites is probably not intentional, and I'll admit I don't know all of the history of everything all the way back.  Also, be aware that it is not particularly pro-pirate.  It's not anti-pirate either, but I tried to go with as fair and unbiased as I could - I didn't want it to have an obvious slant to it that would turn people off from the overall point.  I know you guys tend to be a bit more about the lolcat/fail macros than handing someone an informative pamphlet, but I figure there's room for both approaches, and if you aren't catching any flies with vinegar, it might be time to try a little honey.

i found out that insim and insimadult are hosted on the same server. they are registered by a company called godaddy.
it is possible that they are (were) also hosted on godaddy, as i know that site also offers hosting.

InSIM and InSIM Adult were, at least until the recent mysterious downage, hosted by LayeredTech.  What's happening now is anyone's guess.

Has it occurred to anyone he may have already sold it to someone else?  There could have been a taker, you never know.

Someone ELSE stupid enough to pay several thousands for that site?  I know there's a sucker born every minute and all, but they don't tend to clump up quite that much, do they?  Delphy offered him $2500 and he turned it down... and I don't really think it was worth that before all the kerfuffle.
13  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Insim under new management! on: 2008 December 04, 21:01:32
If he is playing with us, give EA a poke. Let's see what they think of a non-player selling what is basically their code.

EA has utterly no incentive to get involved in such a dispute.  It would cost them money to no benefit to them.  They've washed their hands of the paysite business, crawled in bed with TSR, and pulled the covers over their eyes.  I can pretty much guarantee you any response (if you got one at all) would be to consult your own lawyers.
14  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Insim under new management! on: 2008 December 03, 21:20:07
Looks like I'm IP banned because there's no way to get on while others can.

I'm pretty sure it's just still fucked up, and not an issue on your end.  I know when people get banned on MTS2 (which is also vBulletin, though an older version) it actually displays the page and says that an administrator has banned your IP address.  There probably are other ways to block an IP besides that, but that's the easy way, and considering Walt's cluelessness, I doubt he could do anything more advanced.

I'm unable to access it either, just getting a connection refused error which is the same as I was getting before when it was bouncing up and down.
15  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Insim under new management! on: 2008 December 02, 22:55:47
The thing is, when Delphy made the offer to buy him out, Insim was still alive and no plans of burnination were in the making yet, no Warplan Beige. If Walt had kept up, he'd have known the situation has changed by now.

Yeeesss... I'm confused, was that an additional point or more of a "Err, except..." because I agree with you.  Huh  The site was worth more before all the kerfuffle.  Now it's not worth much at all besides for spare parts (the domain name itself and the traffic that'd generate from people who still haven't caught on).

(As an aside RE: SXS2, it's had record traffic lately, and has gotten significantly more pageviews than InSIM Adult on a regular basis before this stuff, according to Alexa.  Not a whole lot new posted of late, certainly, but I wouldn't call it dead yet.)
