Finished jwilson or community genetics?

Has anyone started on bloom's adult stuff?

I don't think so. Do it! I was going to if no one else picked it up, but I'm still doing Warlokk.
17  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Insim under new management! on: 2008 November 28, 22:50:18
I'm splitting my efforts between the adult and non-adult sites. I'm having better luck with the adult files, actually. The Warlokk stuff I'm getting is all from the adult side so far. I'm trying to get all the files by any creator I'm working on from *both* sites. Unfortunately, after getting in pretty regularly for quite awhile, I've had a HUGE slowdown in the last few minutes. I think my plans to get ALL the Warlokk files from both sites are now a bit over-ambitious. Anyway, I'm getting what I can.

Nixy posted this over at GoS...

Thanks, zillah. I should have posted that first over here  Roll Eyes

I grabbed all the Enayla with images, and I got most of Gothplague and Bloom, though it wouldn't hurt to have someone else get those if it's not already done.
20  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Insim under new management! on: 2008 November 28, 20:10:45
I've been grabbing lots of stuff from both sites along with preview pics, but does anyone know - or is Pes himself around to say one way or the other? - if his backup effort has been renewed? If so, then it's probably better to let that take precedence. Otherwise, I'm going to start grabbing Warlokk stuff.

I gave Walt the benefit of the doubt - obviously, he's a tool, but was he a duped tool? I think that he was - at least as far as the nature of the site he bought is concerned. Of course, those of us who gave money to InSim because of its dire and urgent need for big cash infusions are even bigger dupes.

I know I'm being elitist, but seriously: website using a 16-color palette plus random point sizes of Arial = clueless at doing intarwebz. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but he's a bottom feeder at best. His life's work seems to entail doing all the things online that most of us simply filter out with a couple of browser plugins. Of course, if I ever need to participate in a marketing scam, engage the pointless assistance of a cellular service middleman, or need someone to write me bad fiction about spirit guide hijinx, I know I can count on Walt. Some might not consider it relevant, but I am not comfortable with the attitudes expressed on the various slightly paranoid and god-flavored Libertarian rant sites that he runs, if only because it makes him seem like an even poorer fit for a diverse and talkative gaming community.

As for the Insimenator, based on what people are saying about M&G, it probably requires a final update. Assuming that Eric does do that, what else would he need to do during his promised year of continued work on the mod? I don't use the Insimenator any more, but the only upgrades I recall always happened shortly after the release of a new EP (or not so shortly, depending on whether or not E & K were around). With no further EPs or development expected for Sims 2, what would he be doing to the Insimenator other than a bug fix? It sounds to me like the promised year of care and feeding of the mod is actually something that can be handled with a single e-mail attachment.

Wow, reading that thread makes me now firmly believe that every single one of them is NOT making things for this game because they enjoy creating or sharing their creations. It's only either money or being worshipped and that's it. Everyone should see that thread so everyone knows what a buncha selfish, whiny assholes they are. I wouldn't give any of them a frickin dime.  Angry

Not to say that they aren't assholes, but to me that whole thing read more like people's feelings were genuinely hurt and they weren't so much concerned with the money - at least during this particular discussion. I know I'd be hurt be if I'd done something I was really proud of, something that hadn't been done before, and then was passed over for recognition - with that "recognition" going to someone nameless, whose accomplishment is unknown to me, other than that it was apparently better than anything I've done. Of course, what they actually get is money - which, you know, is undeniably nice - but they *don't* get any public recognition, so they're not going to get congratulated, and because no one knows who received a bonus unless they talk about it, they are less likely to be able to gain standing even within the TSR community based on their merit as a creator.  None of the positive things - feedback, assistance, recognition - that happen naturally in the free community seem to happen for these people. The little bit of praise that happens is weird - you get money, but you have to go asking what it was you did to deserve it. Those chipper little posts about "better luck next month (losers!)" are just cruel. I hate to say anything even remotely positive about the guy (and it is pretty damn remote), but I'm beginning to think that Thomas has a very specific and sick sort of genius for manipulating people and motivating them through misery and paranoia.

I wrote to her also. I do agree that if she's barraged with messages chastising her for her TSR association, that would be non-helpful. However, if people stick to some version of love your work/the community loves your work/there's support of all kinds available to you if you put yourself in a position to get it, maybe it wouldn't be so bad to potentially freak a person out with how well regarded she is despite the dubious company she keeps.

ETA:
Would someone please go over to TSR now and look at the India Nursery and India Bedroom sets?  Downloads/sets/pg.2.
Click on the links for the meshes.  Please confirm or deny that there's something interesting there.  Don't post exactly what, though.

Of course if I'm hallucinating or just got things wrong, do let me know. Cheesy

Oh. My. God. Wonder how long that will last.

YES! and even a PLEASE! on the windows.

nixy this is what I see when I looked up you at TSR

Thanks, fizzbomb. My download buttons are back now - though they were definitely gone earlier - and I do think it was probably due to some site issue of theirs rather than specific to my account since a few other people have experienced the same thing. I've seen lots of downtime with their site, of course, but never anything quite so download-specific and it seemed rather suspicious.

Wow, you got 5713 kudos for ... doing absolutely nothingsince all your posts were deleted? you must be a 1337 h4xx0r!!eleventyone!

As for my whopping 5713 kudos...is that even enough to rent a set of kneepads? I have this vague idea that it costs around half a million of them to do anything even remotely worth the effort, though I've never bothered to actually check into what anything "costs", being disinclined to participate in systems where I am required to dance on my hind legs and beg for scraps.

(This link may have been posted earlier in the thread; my apologies if so. Someone was going to do it instead of me - I don't see it, but that doesn't mean I didn't just miss it. )
I posted it somewhere, but I think it's buried somewhere. Page 41 or so, maybe?

Well, belated thanks for doing so Smiley  I did skim over some of the parts of the thread that seemed to be more a personal discussion/argument than related specifically to the topic, so I probably missed it in there.

And yes, Paleo, you ought to post them. I don't think there's actually any thunder limit to be concerned about. Cheesy
27  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Habitat43 News! Sharing Information! on: 2008 October 12, 20:24:19
They're so quick to remove any signs of dissent...and yet they're so sloppy about it. Fortunately for them, I suppose, their core users seem to be militantly ignornant and proud of it. I suspect that when either Steve or Thomas is under the misimpression that he has managed to put together an especially clever or cutting rebuttal to a deleted post, pride compels him to include these cryptic references so that the original poster will recognize the punishment as crafted especially for them, and will burn with the shame of the presumed smackdown.

And while I was typing this, ValancySterling posted, and I checked my account again.  Now I do see buttons for both free and pay items. They definitely were not there earlier, but it certainly could have been site wonkiness and not specific to my account.
28  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Habitat43 News! Sharing Information! on: 2008 October 12, 19:47:48
I posted in the news thread at TSR that was supposed to settle the BASELESS RUMORS spread by HATERS about the info-sharing that wasn't happening (well, only with five names, but those five DESERVED IT) and, to my surprise, my account was not immediately banned. In fact, it was not banned for several days, and technically I suppose it hasn't been banned at all, since as of today I can log in, but I have no download buttons even visible to me for either pay or free items. So, for all intents and purposes, I am indeed banned...but if anyone wants to look up the profiles of those who posted in the info-sharing thread, I'm guessing that I will still appear to be a member, and TSR will appear to be incredibly fair-minded toward those who oppose them. This actually surprises me as being kind of smart strategy-wise. If anyone is willing to check my ban status, the account name is lindsaybluth

Has anyone else who posted in that thread experienced this same sort of non-ban banning?

FWIW, I do have some screenshots of the early part of that thread that I believe shows a bit more than I've seen here or elsewhere: http://nixypixel.livejournal.com/1769.html

(This link may have been posted earlier in the thread; my apologies if so. Someone was going to do it instead of me - I don't see it, but that doesn't mean I didn't just miss it. )

I bailed out at that point since Steve was taking an awfully long time to respond and I was just spinning my wheels getting more and more upset. However, I think the rest of the thread is pretty well covered by the caps already posted and linked here.
29  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Habitat43 News! Sharing Information! on: 2008 October 08, 16:56:36
Didn't see this elsewhere; my apologies if I'm duplicating something in a more appropriate thread.

TSR "addresses" the info-sharing issue.  http://www.thesimsresource.com/news.php?ID=2789

I've asked a perfectly legitimate question, but I'm not expecting any reply.
30  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / I dont pay for a damn thing and I'll tell you why... on: 2007 February 23, 22:01:44
Base game: $59.99
Uni: $39.99 - the dullest, yet the most expensive...
NL: $29.99
OFB: $29.99
Pets: $29.99

New computer that would actually be able to run the game: $1900
More memory, since it really couldn't run the game after all: $90

So far, we're at $2,179.95. I should probably be ashamed of myself.

I really don't know how much I spent on subscriptions, but I know Peggy got at least $40 out of me, about $15 to 4ESF, Reflex $10 (because I didn't learn my lesson with the first set of non-functional, game-crashing crap), Wallsims $30 or so, and TSR probably a year's worth of off-and-on subbing total, i.e., $53.70.  That's $148.70, and I know that's not anywhere close to the real amount.

Holysimoly got $10 and ATS $5, but I don't particularly mind having paid them.

I tried to offset this by running, um, "free" copies of NL, OFB and Pets, but the latest patch effed up emulation and I couldn't be arsed to work with hacks and cracks yet again, so I broke down and bought the damn things. However, one of my original problems still remains, i.e., I still can't play for any good length of time because my superduper 10-lb. 17" monitor "gamer" laptop has a shit video card with no driver updates available (and aftermarket drivers don't work).

Therefore, within the next few months, I am planning to spend at least another $1000 to build a new desktop system. It's not only for Sims--I'm hoping that a new system will stop all the Photoshop lagging, as well--but making the Sims playable is indeed one of my major goals.

Current total spending on pixel dolls: $2,343.65. Okay, I am ashamed of myself.

I only wish I'd known about the booty sooner...
