1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Peggy... on: 2007 April 12, 12:13:18
I remember the last time people here tried using abandoned forums for googlebombing, it ended up moving the "bombed" sites lower in the rankings rather than higher.
At the time, it was suggested that we just casually link them in conversation, Wikipedia-style.

For instance:
"Oh, well, it looks like Carla Niven is using yet another Peggy Sims 2 hairstyle in her screenshots again. I suppose the gaps Peggy is always leaving in her hair is befitting the 'clothes' on Cardrew's site."

Just an example, though. I'm not sure what would be a better one, but I suppose you all get the picture.

Like Super_Pirate_Dude, I decided I wanted this hair upon seeing it in the valentine's day preview.
But I'm going to wholeheartedly agree with the "looks just like the february gift" assessment-- another thing I decided upon seeing it in the preview.
I like both hairstyles, but there's no denying that they look a lot alike. I would be surprised if they hadn't been made at the same time, with one being a copy of the other.

Yet I still like it!

While searching in Google for Aiumi Hamasaki pictures to see if it's her(which is certainly not) and I found this:

http://toutcute.com/images/ayu-chan.jpg

Compare with the Peggy hair:

Don't you think they look very similar?

Yeah. I thought the same thing the first time I saw the hairstyle in question-- which, I suppose, means it's an at least slightly accurate reproduction.

I didn't notice it the first time I clicked on the link, but upon double-checking, I agree with Poldera's sentiment, and might add: "creepyyyyy".
It's the fake smile that does it, in my opinion.

Something about that outfit scares me greatly

Ugh...I despise any outfit that features talons like that. It just turns me right off.

It's not the outfit, I don't believe. It looks to me like an accessory-- a recolor of that SimChic nails mesh.

Reminds me of reading Swift's A Modest Proposal.  Good stuff.

Hmm?

Johnathan Swift, 18th century social commentator and satirist, wrote "A Modest Proposal".

And here it is on Wikipedia.
6  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Stolen Poser Content on: 2007 March 23, 07:38:13
In S2S's defense regarding the "Beauty" hair:
They used a mesh from the defunct web site "Sims2Beauty". S2B was, however, notorious for using Poser meshes. (I deleted several of them from my game recently. OH THE HIGH POLY PAINNN.)
So, yeah. They're not responsible for ripping that poser mesh.

And the "Damien" hair has been ripped by at least two other creators (Sunair, Guppy Gabriel).
Then again, I know that Guppy Gabriel gave credit (and Sunair may have, too. I can't recall.)

I do appreciate the comparisons, though. Thanks for posting 'em. I'm looking forward to seeing more (especially when you get to Peggy and Rose.)
7  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / TSR IS A SUCK-ASS SUCKY WEBSITE on: 2007 March 23, 07:31:01

I don't know if anyone has read her TSR guestbook, but as of yesterday, there were two entries.  One of which, stated what everyone else is thinking, that she would likely soon be made an FA, given her talent and reputation, and how sad that would be (for the community) if that happened.  Basically, the gist of the message was, please don't go pay.

I checked on it today, wondering if there may have possibly been a reply, or maybe even more entries echoing those statements.  Alas, not only were there no additional entries, but the one mentioned above is now gone.  No, stupid me did not take a screencap.  So, either Enayla deleted the message, or the simpering TSR powers that be, deleted it.

Was this the message in question? It was one on the blog instead of the guestbook.

Oh, dear... I really like your stuff, and I'm glad you've found another outlet to post things on, but I'm still a little saddened that you're going to be posting your new creations here. The things you make are lovely to behold ( ...I hope that doesn't come out sounding creepy! @_@; ), and you're already fairly well-known as far as the Sims2 commnunity goes, so you'll probably be made a featured artist shortly-- and, while you get paid, which is important ( I'm pro-commercialism! Really! People always go like "you're making MONEY? Sell-out!", and I disagree with that ), it -is- disappointing that not as many people will get to use the things you make for the game. Either way, good luck with your creations and thank you for sharing them in the first place. Cheesy

Now, what was this about the dress on Sussi's mesh? I think I've seen that dress on a few of her pictures, and I've been quite enamored of it. (Or is it enamored with it?)

I'm fairly certain it's her, now, though: look at her posts. She posted images in them that are uploaded to her web site, Furiae. Unless this person is a stalker who leaped on the images and posted them at TSR after they were posted at some other site-- before she had made waves as far as the "Sim-community" goes-- then, uh... well...
Actually, that sounds about par for the internet-course.

But still!
Still!

I looked at the "Enalya" account to see if there was anything new posted-- like, perhaps "okay I'm not really her it was ALL LIES"-- and found that the minisite was gone! Yay! "It must have been a fake that was deleted!", I thought.

But, no luck: the account name was changed to "Enayla", and everything is still there.
I believe this does not bode well!

Well, maybe she won't be posting things exclusively? Oh, well. It's not that important when it comes down to it, but it is a little disappointing.

I must be the only person on the planet who is not at all impressed with this style sim. I hate the skintone/facemask with a real person's face pasted on, and I absolutely hate the whole concept of having those freaky ass models in my game.

Yet so many sites insist on using those sims to model their clothes. It is enough to make me not want to download their clothes. That, and that stupid "sexy walk" people use for pictures. Ugh.

Sexy Walk can go jump in a lake, for all I care. Especially that one point in it where the Sim's waist contorts. People use it because... why? The waist looks "smallerzomg MUST HAVE THE SKINNY"?

I looked atthe skintones I downloaded from his site in Bodyshop. Out of a little over a half-dozen, I found two or three that might be worth keeping. The rest were too overly-sharpened, or eyelashes/eyebrows-on-the-face-y.
Well, that's the way it goes, I guess!

I didn't even bother check anything because of that stupid song. Nothing good can ever come from a person who embeds a song into their webpage.

YES THANK YOU

Songs embedded into webpages kill infants of all species and contribute to global warming.

We need to publicize that, I say.

Either way, I downloaded a bit from there. I wonder if I'll like any of the skintones? (I don't even give a hoot about the models.)

*bows* I have to be able to translate stuff like that - I moderate at Gaia Online.

I don't remember BJR either. That's probably a good thing, though.

Oh, holy cats, you moderate there?!
I-- I really, really feel for you. I do.

As for the original post, I like the people who occasionally popped up saying "but two wrongs don't make a right!" to whom they essentially responded "nu-uh shut up SO THOSE GUYS ARE MEAN"
12  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Useful, Unusual Tools You've Found on: 2007 February 25, 03:19:42
I use IrfanView to get my screen captures. If it's set to take screenshots and save them as bitmaps or PNGs, then the quality is just as good as the print screen button.

It's not a highly touted feature-- I'm not even sure if it's mentioned on the site in more than the changelog-- but it's there.
On the file menu, you go to options > Capture (C), and the rest is mostly self-explanatory.
13  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Raon Sims Updates on: 2007 February 08, 21:10:58
I know you mean well, but there was already once a thread where visitors could mention when a site added new pay items. That thread is currently locked, so I'm guessing we're not supposed to start threads about it- particularly because it might be misconstrued as requesting the objects in question.

It might be more beneficial to just post a reply to Raonsim's old thread and talk about the new pay items.

And the "thanks" thing is supposed to be relegated to the "Thanks" thread in "Arr?". Around these parts, kindness is a sign of WEAKNESS, and therefore a CRIME PUNISHABLE BY LAW.

Just a warning.

I mean-- JUST A WARNING. 'CAUSE YOU SHOULD DIE OR SOMETHING.
Cheesy
14  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / I Hate N00bs. on: 2007 February 02, 03:35:07
"N00bs" and "noobs" don't bug me too much.
Maybe it's because of how I was a supernoob at one point, myself.
But generally speaking, I empathize with 'em.

It does bother me when they don't take the time to read a bit before they post, though.
Sure, sometimes you want to just dive in and get to posting, but there aren't even that many stickies or rules around here-- it wouldn't take more than five to ten minutes to read everything so that you understood what to and what not to do.
That's the way it goes, though, I suppose. Besides-- going about acting like a noob counts as overbearing twelveness. It'll bite them in the back sooner or later. *shrug* But until then, one may as well treat them well. (And if you're really trying to make them look bad, for whatever reason, being nice to them when they're acting like a loon to you just makes them look worse, from what I've noticed.)
15  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Pay MESH recolors on free sites on: 2007 February 01, 12:18:12
I disagree with the idea of "there should be no recolors of paymeshes".
In no small part due to the ubiquitous poor red recolors. I seem to remember seeing a collection of proper red recolors of pay hairstyles at InSIM... it would be a shame if it were to be deleted.
But sometimes, people's textures are actually better than the originals. Go figure, eh?

Quote from: "BlueSoup"
emosims hotlinks directly to the booty for their recolor of Peggy's Lucky Wheel hair prize.  I just checked it out.

I like some of the things on Emosims, but couldn't she have just uploaded it to her own server? Or linked to PMBD, rather than the mesh itself?
I always assumed that it was common courtesy not to directly link to someone else's web site when it came to images and larger files. (To HTML or PHP pages? No big deal.)
