Yes, you can claim it's immature to expect feedback, but isn't it also immature to look at all the free content out there as a personal playpen of toys, where you are free to take all the time but never have to give anything in return?

I'm not saying everyone should spend hours giving feedback.  I am saying though, that it would not hurt our struggle to end paysites if people who enjoy all the free content available, took a little more time to tell creators of this lovely stuff that we appreciate them.  If we took the time to give honest, thoughtful, feedback of their stuff.   I'm not saying that by doing so, we'll win the war, but it certainly isn't going to hurt the war.  And taking the time to give feedback helps encourage a community spirit.
I think a lot of people don't feel comfortable giving real feedback because they aren't creators themselves and don't really know what sort of advice to give.  Then they're back to saying the old "thanks, this is great!" (and even adding something like "I like the color" doesn't help, because usually everyone else is saying something similar).  It all starts to sound like "baaa!" after a while. Tongue

I think the other big thing is that the Sims 2 community is centered around a single-player game--there are many players who are a little intimidated by the community and never comment but still appreciate the CC they get.  Those are the people that are never heard from, and that's partially why I think the number of downloads means so much.  For example, I certainly didn't appreciate anyone's CC any less back when I was a lurking n00b than I do now.  It's understandable to want to feel like you're getting recognition for your work, but I think it's important to give it some thought and realize that it's pretty hard to give honest-sounding feedback.  People playing with your content is the best "feedback" to give but, given the nature of the game, it's also the hardest to see.
Sure, MTS2 is cliquey, but it's not as if only members of the "clique" can get any recognition.  There are plenty of people who have made nice stuff, been relatively unknown, and become well known because of MTS2.  It's not easy, but seeing as they're giving you a free place to upload stuff, I don't think it's nice to complain.

*Headscratch*  What does MST2 giving free space have to do with people giving feedback?  Complaining that MST2 is slow, that the site goes down too much, that the mods there aren't spending their lives devoted to the site, that's not nice or very grateful.   However, feedback has nothing to do with the staff of MST2.  I don't think the staff of MTS2 thinks it is.   It's not up to MST2 to provide feedback for the creators, that's up to the downloaders.
I don't think I was still talking about feedback when I wrote that.  I had to catch up on about ten pages, and I remembered that some people were making comments about MTS2 being cliquey, so I tacked on my two cents. Wink  I cut parts out of that post that I thought were repetitive, and it got kind of unclear.  Sorry.

I hope this makes sense, because I'm getting pretty tired here.  This thread moves too fast for me to keep up.

Fake edit: I'm like you, Zazazu.  The polite compliment crap only makes it mean much less when people give real compliments.

I admit that I forget to click thanks on MTS2 sometimes. Embarrassed  Every once in a while I look for things I've downloaded to go back and make sure I've said thanks, though I'm sure I still miss some.  I wish I would remember, but the thanks button is kind of small and out of the way (I don't usually scroll down to the comments), and I just forget. Undecided

I think it's kind of immature and silly to get all upset because people aren't overflowing with praise for your stuff.  I don't think sitting down to make a generic "thanks, this is great!" comment means any more than someone who took the time to download it and use it in his/her game.  And, to be honest, that's all the thanks comments usually are (not only on MTS2, either).  I'd look more at the number of downloads.  If a lot of people download it, it's probably pretty good.  If not...well, maybe it needs some work.  It's certainly no excuse to start charging for anything.

Thanks for the screenshots, tomato.  They were interesting.

This entire ordeal is like some kind of pathetic soap opera. The fact that Atwa was unable to sleep because of pirates making fun of her is especially scary. Undecided  That woman needs help.  And Thomass is such an, well, ass to keep leading her on like that.  I find that part more disgusting than the whole illegal paysite thing.

That Peggy picture is bizarre.  Why did she use the same model three times, and then stick that one blonde one on the end?  Why do two of them have that weird bouffant hairstyle with a bow tied around their heads?  Why do they all look stoned?  What's the fourth doing with her hands?  How's that white shawl even supposed to stay on?

Ah, wait.  It's Peggy.  Never mind.

The bangs on that Rose mesh look like they're going to eat her face. Sad  And Glamour Sim is Glamour Sim.  There's not much more to say. Wink

Well, if Hecubus has officially declared Rensim a non-paysite, then I guess I can't argue. Undecided  I just know that it took me ages to figure out how to get ahold of those files--I didn't realize that they were in the booty, and I wasn't (and am not) immersed in the community enough to start requesting stuff from random people at forums.  If I weren't so against paying for pixels in the first place, I may have paid for them.  That bugs me.

I certainly wasn't saying that I OMGHAET Ren or any other paysite owner, for that matter.  I don't hate many people (mostly because I'm too lazy to Cheesy), but if I'm going to hate paysite people, it'll be ones like Thomass and Peggy. Wink

I get the idea, but I still consider her site a paysite.  Maybe not one of the worst, but a paysite.  Expecting people to go to N99 and start requesting people send them files doesn't sit right with me.  I've personally never even been to N99, and it'd make me feel like a leech if I signed up just to whine to people I don't know to give me pay files.  If it's that much of a hassle to attain her files (and getting them through the booty doesn't count), and she's charging for them, then her site's a paysite.  Plenty of other sites have been able to go free and still pay for hosting; I'm sure Ren could do it as well.  I don't see why the "I need money for hosting" excuse is any better because she gives people permission to share her files.  It's still alienating a lot of people who don't know who to ask for her files, don't think she's in the booty (because they don't think of her site as inactive), and will end up paying because they don't know any better.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like Ren's content, and I've never pegged her as all that greedy or malicious.  I just wish she would step away from the paysite label, because then I could respect her a lot more.

I didn't mean for this to get this long (sorry Embarrassed), but I have one last point: I know the Daum/Naver people were considerably more rude than Ren has ever been, but wasn't their content bootified because they made it such a hassle for people to get to it?  I think Ren's content should be in the "active" part of the booty with all the other active paysites--if she's happy to have people share her files, the she should be happy to have them easily accessible.  People won't think to look in the inactive sites section when her site's not really inactive.

Again, I don't see Rensim as being up there with the likes of TSR and Peggy, but...meh. Undecided

What struck me most when reading that thread was just how damn stupid they all sound.  Pirates insulting TSR are almost always witty and clever, but everyone in that TSR thread sounded like a sycophantic idiot.  And these people are running a company?  No wonder it's crashing to the ground.

As unfortunate as the sharing of info was, I hope that this finally gives us "pirates" a legal leg to stand on.  The EULA thing may not get us anywhere (even though it should), but this is definitely illegal, and I bet PayPal is going to be more reactive than EA has been.  This isn't just pixels--it's people's real-life privacy.
53  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Free Content Pwns Paysite Crap on: 2008 October 05, 20:56:21
Has anyone ever contacted XM about going free?  The fact that they haven't released a donation set since early 2006 makes me think that they're not too serious about making monies off of their site; if they were, they could probably make loads off of the hair, as opposed to outdated-looking furniture from three years ago, which is basically what their donation sets are.

It would be great to have another free site with a lot of hair to combat Raon, Rose, and Peggy.  While Nouk and Helga are great, they still hardly hold a candle to the pay creaters in terms of the sheer amount of hair they make.  XM has a lot, and they're good quality, too.

Since you hotlinked it from exnem forums, it won't show to people who aren't logged in.

That being said, it's fugly, so maybe that's for the best. Cheesy
55  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Free Content Pwns Paysite Crap on: 2008 October 02, 22:57:26
I have 16,551. Sad  You know, I think I'd play more if it didn't take so long to boot up the game, but I can't bear to get rid of anything.  I did a major clean out a few months ago and cut it in half...but since then I've gotten a lot more discriminating about what I download, so now it's all quality stuff that I can't get myself to delete because it's too pretty.

Even worse, I have no organized subfolders.  The only subfolders I have are from things I downloaded that came in a folder and I didn't bother to take out.  Everything else is just thrown in there.  I remember wanting to organize it a couple of months after I'd reinstalled the game (before about a year and a half ago, I didn't have a stable computer, so I never got more than a couple hundred downloads before everything'd be blown away), but I refrained because I thought 700 was too many to go through. Cheesy  Little did I know.

It's not compressorized, either.  I'm afraid to, because I think I have a couple of hacks in there, but I'll never be able to find them in that mess.  And if anything conflicts, I'm pretty much screwed.

^That's the first thing that's made me laugh out loud for a while. Grin

The back of that hair is very WTF indeed.  I've never seen anyone with hair that's a foot shorter in the back than it is in the front.

That Chaz hair is terrible.  That would have looked horrible in 2005...TS1, even.

Also: MTS2's search engine pwns TSR's shitty one.  There was something I was going to post, but I gave up digging through all that crap.  I searched on "capris," and half the stuff that showed up didn't even have anything to do with capris.   Huh
58  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: More Smutty Than You: TSR's Hall of Shame on: 2008 September 21, 17:44:36
I'm the odd one out, then. I'm a teen and I go -ugh- at the things 'we're' wearing nowadays.
Am I the only one that thinks that fashion trends have actually gotten better in the last couple of years?  I remember going shopping in the late '90s/early '00s, and I couldn't even find a shirt that covered my midriff, not to mention pants that covered my ass, unless I went into the ladies' section.  With the exception of skinny jeans and leggings (and I've still been able to find bootcut jeans anyhow), the stuff popular right now seems to be less tight fitting and show off less skin, like the empire-waisted shirts and high-waisted pants, which are coming in style.  I know some people find that stuff ugly, but I certainly don't miss seeing butt crack every time a girl bends down.

Then again, I think they've gotten better for teens and adults and worse for pre-teens.  I definitely don't remember there being tons of slutty stuff in the kid's department when I was that age, though I'll admit to not remembering much.

Back on topic, though, I found this this morning.  Isn't it just a wee bit too revealing for a toddler?  The cut of the top especially bothers me.  It looks like a bra. Undecided

59  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: More Smutty Than You: TSR's Hall of Shame on: 2008 September 20, 18:52:16
That top looks like it should be showing some nipple. Lips sealed

The most horrible thing about the promiscuous clothes for little girls (and boys, I guess, but it's nearly always girls) is the message it gives them.  So many young girls are convinced that they have to be sexy before they even can fully understand what that means, and they're actually objectifying themselves without understanding what they're doing. Sad

I've always been so far from the standard of beauty that I've never bothered painting over my ugly face. Wink  I'll be pasty white, freckly, and without highlights for the rest of my days, and I frankly don't give a damn.

The "amazed and astounded" part makes me think she's a troll.  No one says that, let alone as often as she does.
