31  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Insim under new management! on: 2008 November 27, 04:40:45
Like I said in the GOS thread, I think that Kathy and Eric may have hoodwinked Walt. Honestly, a site that is forever begging for money is an investment?
Ya but here's my thing, guys like this are by profession looking for profit and besides that, he writes like someone with a reasonable amount of intelligence, so I'm assuming he's educated. He would of course want to see financial reports, membership info, traffic data, server costs, etc. So if he was hoodwinked by Kathy and Eric either they a: fabricated data or b: were in fact making a profit and led him to believe there was more to be found (paysite). Who knows.
I don't think they were making a profit (at least I hope they weren't), but I can see how a web developer would look at InSIM as a good investment.  Sure, it's in the hole now, but it's also a big site with a big community.  I bet Walt thought it would be a lot easier to "rescue" InSIM than build his own site from scratch.  Of course, he knew little about the srs bsns that is the Sims community. Wink

I've tried not to think poorly of Kathy and Eric over the past few months, even with the whole Beos fiasco, because I believe they have a son in Iraq among other real life issues that should definitely be more important than a Sims 2 site, but I'm not sure if I can help it now. Undecided  Would it have been so hard to make some sort of announcement, at least to the mods?  Urgh.

I agree with crunk--I don't think that InSIM will come out of this for the better, no matter what.  I don't frequent InSIM anymore, but I have a lot of memories of people there helping me when I was a wee n00b downloading game-borking files from the exchange, so I'd definitely be sad to see it go.  It's one of the few big free sites in the community as well; it would be a big loss. Sad

When I saw his post and the subscription poll, my jaw dropped.  And he's thinking of making subscriptions mandatory for InSIM adult?  WTF?

Where did Kathy and Eric get this guy?  If it were my site, I'd talk to the moderators I knew best and see if anyone could take it, not hand it off to some guy who looks like he's trying to make money off of it.  Again, WTF?

This is the problem with mixing hobbies and business.  Though Thomass treats his FAs like employees (which they are), they aren't businesspeople who understand how running a business works.  Most of them still see creating CC as a hobby, even if they make a few bucks off of it.  When he starts treating people like any company owner would, everyone gets all upset, because creating CC for TS2 is just a hobby for a game.

To run a successful business, you need a lot of "little people" to support the "big people."  If the little people don't take it seriously, or don't like the way it's being run, it will eventually come crumbling down.  I think that's what we're seeing here--a lot of people are fed up with Thomass' asshattery and are leaving.  A TS2 fansite isn't worth the drama.

See, I like that EAxis took a different approach with TS3.  I don't know if I like the whole seamless neighborhood idea either, but they had to do something like that, or they'd be releasing a Sims 2 with slightly better graphics and a few differences in gameplay.  TS1 had a lot to be improved on; TS2, not so much.  I'd rather they release something a little bizarre but different than the same thing again.

Will I be buying it?  With Securom, of course not.  Will I Arr! it?  Maybe.  I think I'll see what people are saying first.

I found this lovely outfit today.

It's been there since 2004.
36  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Poor Atwat.... on: 2008 November 04, 16:16:55
I don't think it's her.  Her ellipses are usually only two periods long, plus the I`m thing spenlzo pointed out.

As far as I'm concerned, if people like Chaz's stuff, they can sure as hell like Atwa's stuff.  People have bad taste.
37  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Paysite Macros on: 2008 October 27, 01:51:07
The person's trying to say that we're all drones who mindlessly follow everything posted here about paysites, T$R, etc.  Said person must never have been to TSR (or maybe is from TSR and is trying to use our own words against us).

Oh, and we all apparently have "sucky lives."

The thing that bothered me the most was that s/he used "loose" instead of "lose," to be honest.

I keep misreading DOT's name as DOLT.  It's much more fitting that way.

I don't know about Atwat's mental problems, but I think she'd get a lot of help by just stepping away from the computer.

ETA: Re: the LDG thread, if they love T$R so much, why do they sound so paranoid?  Being afraid of all free creators is stepping a little over the line.

They love TSR but they are paranoid because they know how many people out there actually hate TSR. It's not just the pirates that talk about how bad it is. It literally is everyone outside of TSR. That's why they are afraid of newcomers, and censor everything within the site. They do it, to make sure their bubble never gets popped.
Aye, that makes sense.  I guess it's just so strange to me to see them say they love TSR and then make a long list of people they're afraid are pirates/traitors/etc.  A place like that doesn't seem like I place I'd love to be, especially when they start dragging random people into it (like some of the SAs that refuse to go pay).  They could very well love you one day, and the next they'll be accusing you of being a pirate.

Devilfish: Oh, but TSR is PG13! Roll Eyes  It can't have an adult section!

The problem is obviously that, even with all of the monies flowing in, Thomass can't bother to pay anyone to filter downloads.  The pr0n stars, booty links, etc usually have to be found by us before any of the TSR mods know they exist.

Re: the thread coconut posted, am I the only one kind of confused at how upset they all are?  The announcement that bonuses are being handed out doesn't seem that foreign of a concept to me; it happens all the time in the real world.  It's not like Thomass even announced who got them.

LuckyAngel: I'm glad you got out of that cesspool. Smiley

They aren't coming up for me, unless I Google them and go to Google's cached version.  Maybe they're cached on your computer (if that's even possible), Titan.  I'm pretty sure they've been bahleeted.

It was a good way to spread the word, though.  I hope it happens again. Smiley

It's still up. Cheesy  Try searching on the keywords dietofworms posted.

ETA: On second thought, I agree with Paleo.  I'm sure T$R is watching.
43  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: More Smutty Than You: TSR's Hall of Shame on: 2008 October 16, 03:01:06
It looks fine because Maaak's model is standing still.  When the sims move, you get to see how faulty the mesh is.  It tears into the sim's skin.
44  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Your Ugliest Paysite Creation Find: Round Two. on: 2008 October 16, 02:10:55
Chaz has the ugliest hair meshes ever.  I prefer Peggy's gappy shit to Chaz's a million times over.  All of his look like wood, and a lot look like he just took a Maxis mesh and fugged it up.  See his Amy Winehouse sim in particular--it's the Seasons short cut mesh with a gigantic mass of blech tacked on. [Link]  He didn't even bother to 'shop out the transparency issues near the bottom.

This is free, but I found it while looking for Chaz's hair.  It's an Amy Winehouse sim made using BlackGarden's funnel hair. Cheesy

For once, I think Chaz wins.
45  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: More Smutty Than You: TSR's Hall of Shame on: 2008 October 16, 01:31:30
Here.  Obviously, the bonus mesh borkage wasn't pictured--that screenie was taken by Tantra when she was telling Thomass that Maaak wouldn't make a good FA.  It's in one of the more recent posts on coconut's blog, here (scroll down a bit to get to the picture).  Of course, Thomass ignored her and made him an FA anyway.
