1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / EA Games Business Plans and Making Mo' Money on: 2007 August 28, 23:41:35
Quote from: "armywife"
Interesting.  The main theme is - money, money, mo' money and how can we make money

Why else do companies go corporate and create huge conglomorates?  To adopt kittens?

Of course it's the money.

As for companies buying up other developers and what not, it'll never just be Microsoft and EA, there will always be a little up and coming firm that the people who design games will want to work for because they will have more freedom.
2  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / What EP would you most like to see for Sims2? on: 2007 January 29, 18:10:07
Quote from: "Tchân de Bouley"
Well, on MTS2 there's already magic stuff, so a sims2 magic EP would be void.

I don't see how a MM EP would be void.  The EP is more than just the objects.  It's new animations that come with new objects, it's new behaviours, new places to visit, and it seems with every expansion this time around it's also new building abilities.

Besides the only objects on MTS2 that are makin magic remakes are the banners and the canopy bed.  That's hardly anything at all.

I actually kind of hated most of the EP's for sims 1 and only got them because of the objects (and the need for those objects in order to download new ones,) except MM.  That was always my favorite.

But I don't want S2 to just be S1 with better graphics.  I want it to be different.  I would like to see some sort of travel, that's for sure.  I would like to see the types of business expanded, even though with that ticket thing you can pretty much come up with any business imaginable.  What would be really awesome is some way for sims from seperate neighborhoods to meet.  Like on vacation.  A stuff pack with nothing but prebuilt 'hoods, each done on a theme, like medieval, or 70's or whatever would be awesome for lazy people.

Also:  I would LOVE it for the elimination of waste to be more realistic.  A sim pees in sim time the same amount of time it takes me to take a leak in real time.  If their motive is near failure that can take almost an hour, and that's just ridiculous.
3  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Businesses in Britain charge VAT on: 2006 November 19, 17:30:23
Quote from: "wicked_one"
So does that mean the company that owns TSR reports the taxes and stuff? or is it not being reported at all because TSR itself isn't a registered company (which means they are pocketing all the VAT fees)?

No, it means that there is a legitimate business that developed the instalation wizard, and it could also mean that this legitimate company 'owns' TSR and that is the business license they run under.

It's funny how if you google ibibi ab you get a hit, but the page isn't there anymore and the googlecache of it is blank.

I think the effects were to make it look 'professional'....Or to hide the fugliness of her clothes. Or professional fug-hiding techniques..

I'm pretty sure the effects were to hide the fugly.  There was one outfit that almost the entire walk was put under some sort of shitass blur filter or some business like that.  I'm pretty sure that means that this particular outfit has shit textures.

I say that like the rest of her stuff isn't pasted with shit textures.

What's really horrible is I know next to nothing about textures.  I meshed out a full kitchen with wine glasses and the whole bit for an autocad class once, but the textures available for it were for crap, and I couldn't do any better on my own.
5  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Sims 2 on Wikipedia on: 2006 November 16, 23:53:30
The wiki format is easy to use and the fact that they allow users to edit/add articles means the database grows and grows so there's basically nothing you can't find there.  What sucks is the bias.

Quote from: "Sherry"
I find it funny that people who will not give out the link to the site at all or allow it's name to be mentioned (Like Mrs. Retail Sim), will go and mention Pescado's name like a million times, as if one could not just Google it and with minimal brain usage figure out the way to the site.

I think the thing is with the not mentioning the site or giving out the URL but screaming usernames in all caps has a lot to do with stupidity but not in the way you're thinking.  I don't know what the download traffic is like here but the fact that there are less than a thousand registered members at the forums tells me that the average simmer just isn't internet savvy enough to figure this stuff out for themselves.  They have to be pointed.  So if you leave out things like the sites name they won't think to google Pescado's name.  That lj post in TS2 community had a post like that.  Someone mentioned that PMBD wasn't the only one and mentioned SFV by name.  Someone actually asked where it was.  As if google doesn't work?

If your average simmer wasn't much smarter than a box of used tissues, there wouldn't be a market for paysites.

I dunno about the OP, but I'm one of the mods (ari_ when I'm at home, mkir when I'm at work), and I plan to write up a post about this site, and Rose, when I get home. *g*

We've actually been pondering how to post about this site, since we have a "don't break other people's TOS" rule (to minimize potential drama). So Rose sharing info is an excellent opportunity to spread the news on the thesims2 LJ comm.

The post was very fine. I do hope you won't get any complaints for posting these links on the post. Hopefully, there won't be a dramafest...
... well, unless it's actually funny, I wouldn't mind too much.

Yes, ze post was goot.  I kind of hope some to share or not to share drama comes out of it all.  bwahahahaha.  That would be fun.

Coincidentily, someone in the post mentioned that it wasn't up at fandomwank, what the hell people?

It's too bad comments are already screened for now.

Edit: I've been asked nicely to disable comments until further information can be presented. Instead of disabling I will screen comments, and when I edit again later I'll unscreen them.

Well hopefully the op lives up to her promise and unscreens them.

There is also the livejournal community.  But I'm not sure how... kindly... they would take to this.  Seeing as this has been going on for about a month and it hasn't hit the ljcomm yet they may be blocking it...  ><  That is such an irritating thing to think.  That people might be so turned off to the idea of filesharing that they block information that may benefit them.

There is livejournal postings about it, but comments have been screened until further notice I guess.

9  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Apology and some questions still on: 2006 November 15, 03:05:33

Ok , I guess I own some people an apology . I am not happy with the things I said earlier in this forum .
I don't like the style of all this but even then it is not ok to say what I said .

Ok you can debate about stuff and put it out in the open that you don't agree at all with paysites , also if it is needed to make money with simsstuff eventhough EA says you cannot .

Last thing . I read stuff here in this forum , that is only meant to hurt people , to ridicule people , gossip , namecalling and so on .
I think that is pretty disgusting and I see really no need for that .
We are not talking about pedofiles or so and even then .... I think as moderator of your forum you have responsibillity to check what people write and when names are involved , to ask them to delete that name .
- Destroy Carla Niven -  or such , I think that is really all wrong to leave that in your forum.
Why do you wanna have such negative things , I don't see the point of that at all .

It has nothing to do with the topic paysites , this is just plain gossip .

Well I hope you accept my apology and hope you will answer my questions .

Nikos / Lizard / Vulture

Wait.  Are you saying that despite the fact that EA actually owns any copywrite applied to any object, mesh, skin, recolor, ect created for it's games, and that they expressly state that these items will not be sold for profit by anyone that it's necessary for these files to be sold rather than distributed freely as EA intended in the first place?  Do you really think it's just lazy programming on their part that anything that touches a lot is packaged with it, including any recolor of any object you may have just tried and changed?  Why is it needed to make money?  Please explain to me WHY half wit hacks like Carla Niven NEED to take my money for her stolen meshes and craptastic textures.  Please tell me why TSR NEEDS my money for files the community provides them.  If you can give me one good reason why someone NEEDS my money for sims2 files I'll shut up and never say another word about it.

As for the gossip, name calling, mocking and general fuckoffery.  THIS IS AN INTERNET FORUM.  If you get your feelings hurt on the internet you need therapy or pills or something.  Further, opinions about Carla Niven's lack of talent, LyricLee's histronics, and various male community figures' sexual obsession with children are topics to be discussed anywhere, including a site at which perfectly legal filesharing occurs and everyone is a fan of pirates.  Just because it doesn't have anything to do directly with filesharing doesn't mean it's not fun and interesting to discuss.  And if we wanna gossip about it, so what?  You don't like it obviously, so why are you here?  Oh wait.  I know.  You're here to entertain us with your whining.

INTERNETS:  SERIOUS BUSINESS.

That is all.
10  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: OFFICIAL THANK YOU THREAD on: 2006 November 14, 17:47:25
Hi.  I just found this, via other pirates.

I think it's important to encourage and thank creators for their work.  I think it's important to thank people in the world for taking a stand.  I think that what is being done here (including the whole 'in your face' attitude) is a Very Good Thing.

I remember getting my sims game on release day.  I remember reading the EULA because there was a bunch of internet hullabaloo about it.  I remember being insanely joyous because that EULA pretty much said that everything creators make for this game will be free because they say so.  I remember being double insane with glee when I realised that all CC used in building and decorating a lot would be included with that lots package, because that's the way it was written.

I was very very very very sad when paysites stayed.

And not just because I'm broke and the prices these people ask for their items is fucking insane if all that money is for is to keep their website running.  People make money off this shit to supliment their lifestyle, and turn around and deny it.  I wouldn't be so ... irritated by it if they just fessed up and told the truth.

And then there are places like TSR.  Taking the communities work and putting it up for sale, when the most a creator is going to get is a few free membership days, and that's only if they pump things out on a steady and regular basis.  They have thousands of members, they boast being the largest sim community, and there is no way in fuck all that those monthly donation fees are just enough to cover running costs.  Someone is sitting fat and happy on a wad of cash.  It's a hell of a racket.

So really, thank you guys.  Thank you for allowing me to be a pirate.  There's a good deal of it that is principle for me.
