You are way to paranoid in my eyes.

Here are some facts:

  • Yes, i consider some FAs to be my friends. No matter if they offer pay content or whatever, they are just nice persons
  • Yes, i consider some pirates to be my friends. They make pay content available for free, but they are really nice persons
  • I don't like the way you talk about TSR or any other paysite owner. I would question that in real life your wording does consist only of cunt, jerk, asshole, twat or whatever, if you talk about someone you don't like. It's your board, so you can decide what words are appropriate, but i still don't like them.
  • I don't care about your dispute with TSR or any other paysite. It's not my game you are playing, as i never did upload pay content to Pimp my Sims.com nor do i intend to do so. So it's only between you and paysites.
  • I was an FA some years ago for a short period of time. I think it's been about 4 month or so with 3 sets published. I left TSR because me and TSR did not fit together good enough for me to stay there
  • I don't think the fact, that i have been a FA some years ago disqualifies me forever to post something related to TSR. If you think so, i can't help you
  • I personally don't care a shit about an FAs creations being listed at the booty or not. I still think you don't have the right to do so, but it's not my game. And i won't condemn anyone for doing it, as you guys follow a different interpretation of the EULA than i do.
  • I never intended to distract you from anything. I just thought (and still think) that publishing the pictures mentioned above went too personal, so i did post it. That's it. Didn't expect that such a discussion would follow.
  • Coconut is perfectly right if she/he says that i did talk with Teko about this thread and i did also say to him, that i don't like the way you guys talk about some topics or handle private data. But i did also note to him, that sharing paypal data between paysites is inacceptable.
  • I did also say to him that i wish TSR the best that they find the wholes in their system, if there is an external hacker attacking their system. This was an impartial statement, as i do not wish anyone (neither pirates nor pay nor free sites) to have an unwanted guest in areas where noone else should enter.
  • I did also talk to Anita yesterday evening. She told me some things about hackers etc. If i believe it, what i do believe or not is my decision. Just in case coconut also finds this information somewhere on the net. I don't feel ashame for it.
  • I do not expect you to change your personal positions nor do i expect to quit what you are doing. It's your right to express your opinion and act accordingly, but this does also apply to me.
  • Not everyone, who is not 100% on your side, is automatically against you.
  • If you don't want me to take part in this discussion or any others at this board, just say so. It's perfectly ok for me, as it is your home and you got the right to tell any guest, if he should leave or not.

In the end, Solander, anyone here would find it distasteful to post pictures of someone's home just for the hell of it. However as TSR is publically claiming to need money from subs for site costs only, the pictures of the homes count as evidence against that. That's all there is to it. While we value your opinion, discussing it will not really change anything except the length and focus of this thread. Especially after private information being posted, we think things through, you don't have to worry about that. People are very aware.

Time to let it go and focus on what we were talking about earlier. Wich is, TSR's antics Wink

I would be fine to end this discussion. I just wanted to post my position, did so, had some nice hours "chatting" with you guys about different point of view regarding private data and now know much more about the wide variety of definitions of privacy.
3  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 23, 16:10:11
You need to SERIOUSLY reconcider your defenition of private data. Because, well...

My new car.

Are all these people in danger of being gangraped by phishing bots or something? If I point to one of those pictures and say, "Look, that's the type of car I'd like", would I be morally wrong? Has Google turned to the devil and started distributing private data on an epic scale?

No. Just no. This is where I draw the line. A picture of a house is NOT private data. Hell, it's barely even data at all.

And I'm bugged by the fact that all this is coming from a guy with a picture saying "This is me" as his avie as well.

As i did post somewhere above, all information available on the net about me, including the picture, is information which I did choose to publish and to be available for everyone. Anything else would not be ok for me to be published by anyone.

I did note that your guys definition of private data completely differs from mine, but this does not mean i have to change my definition, as less as i do press you to change yours.

Actually, how about Google, who posts pictures and addresses of people unbeknownst to them?  I can find my brother's house, look at his neighborhood, get his address and everything.  He did not post that picture anywhere.  Google took their stupid cameras out and did it.

That's a pretty good example. In my eyes, it's not ok to make pictures of my house and publish them on the net without my approval. They just do it and as they are powerful enough, they won't have to fear much oposition, but that does definetely match my "published something private" definition.
4  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 23, 15:57:57
Is this just a case of 'you're doing it too!', or what?

No, definetely not. I just wanted to note that i don't agree with the publishing of those pictures. I did say with not a single word "now you are like TSR" or something like this. I just intended to say that one should always stop for a second and consider, wether it is ok or not to publish something. If you come to the result, that this is perfectly ok for you, well, do it. And i did not condemn anyone for publishing the pictures. I just did say, that in MY opinion, this is not ok. And i did not claim my point of view to be the only right one.

5  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 23, 15:50:24
I really don't want to say "Two wrongs don't make a right," but sorry, Solander, it's coming across like you're more in sympathy to TSR than to us.

Concerning sharing the pictures of his house, you are absolutely right. In this specific case, my sympathy is definetely on the side of TSR. Concerning other topics like sharing private data between pay sites, my sympathy is definately on your side, as this is absolutely inacceptable. Whatever motivation lies behind it, you can't share private data at your own discretion.
6  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 23, 15:21:55
Hmmm, not really digging the fact that the last few pages of this thread have revolved around whether or not coconut should have posted pictures of a house that Thomass posted himself. Especially, since the real issue was coconut's revelation that Thomass was intending to use another person's illness for his own benefit. But, hey, I guess it's a matter of perspective.

Well, the threads in this forum tend to become offtopic from time to time as far as i did notice Wink And the topic of Thomas intending to use another person's illness is offtopic, too, if you restrict this thread on the original "TSR sharing your information" title.

But, again, we're talking opinions here.

Yep, we are. I am not proselytizing (evangelizing?!?!!? well, acting as a missionary  Tongue) and pressing anyone to adopt my position. Just wanted to make clear that from my point of view, some things go too far. If anyone agrees, that's fine for me, if not, well, i can't force you, so that's ok, too.
7  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 23, 14:32:34
Solader, I'm curious. Are you just talking about the pictures of that house? Or are there other things as well?

Well, I did mainly focus on the pictures, as I consider them to be "private area". And i just don't like the idea of the internet making good old privacy becoming more and more relative. The fact, that you post something at a forum does not mean you agree to have it republished somewhere else. This does not apply to public postings, but to private forums like the FA forum at TSR. I consider it to be a "private" area as any other protected area of the internet, which is only available to a selected group of individuals.

The general chat about hunting down people that share TSR stuff at the booty is ontopic concerning the current conflict betwenn TSR and you guys and one could maybe say, that a mole could have the right to inform the other party about what's going on. Your personal espionage mission in the enemys teritory.

But in the second the information isn't ontopic anymore, it is a no-no concerning publication at another place. In my opinion, this includes personal problems of a person in private life (maybe some FA needed the help of an psychiatrist because of an "exlusive" thread here), anything he or she does when not sitting in front of the PC or what he/she buys, sells or creates when not being acting in behalf or working for a specific site.

Example: Assume, i am in a conflict with a bank manager who sold me some lehman brothers certificates and bought a nice car with this money. I now would claim the right for me to inform whatever person about the really bad advise of the bank and the bank manager, could publish the letters of my laywer etc. etc. But i would never publish pictures of the car like "look what he bought with my money", as this is not related to the deal "i bought worthless stuff from someone and try to take him to court".

Maybe this point of view is too strict or whatever, but it's simply mine. And it does not only apply to Thomas or TSR. I would also dislike any publication by TSR saying that "<insert any pirate name> is fighting against us, because he <insert any personal catastrophe> and needs some outlet for his frustration." or "<insert any pirate name> is a hypocrith, as he did do <insert any not so legal action like downloading music on a fileshare site etc.>"

Hope you get what i would like to say. It's damn difficult to translate complex german thoughts into english text without loosing half of the original meaning Wink So if there should be anything not so clear for you or if you are not sure, if you understand a specific point in the way i expected you would do, please ask me Smiley

8  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 22, 22:39:17
Thank you for not bashing me so far  Roll Eyes

Well, maybe you are right and they were already published, but i still don't like the idea of exposing too many details of the real life of a specific person on the internet. The pictures may have been posted on a private board, but the poster did not expect them to be published accros the internet. When putting photos into an album, which you show your friends, you would not expect those pictures to be copied and nailed to the door of the local barber shop. At least i would not do so and would definetely not be amused Wink

What i wanted to say was: If you do say something in public, post public available information or whatever, you agree for this information to be available for everyone. In my case, this means, that I did disclose my personal picture, my messenger address, my real world address (german law, it's a pitty Wink), my mail adress as well as lots of other details about my personal life (name of my dog, where i was born and much more). But i did do so knowing that this information may be republished somewhere else.

With "don't publish private life details" i meant making information available to the public, the original poster did not intend to be available to everyone.

I know one can argue about this for hours and will still find some pros and cons so i did not intend to condemn anyone. But i still think some information should kept private. And this does definetely include pictures of a private house, which is only presumably payed with subscription fees.
9  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 22, 22:10:28
Hi everyone,

maybe this is somewhat unpopular but I still want to write a short posting concerning a specific topic.

Don't you think you get too personal sometimes? I mean, the pictures of Thomas (I use his real name, yes, as I don't think, that the broad variety you can find here is appropriate) house did cross a border that should not be crossed in my eyes. Even if you guys can't stand him and even if everything you can read at tsr.mustbedestroyed.org is true, i still believe that one should not go too far. Fighting against a site or its politics regarding free sites, pirates or whatever is one thing. Digging in the private life of whatever person another.

I don't say that Thomas is an misunderstood angel nor do i claim TSR to be a charity club, but publishing details of the private life of anyone is wrong in my eyes. I consider sharing private data between paysites as totally wrong and if one had shared mine, i would have been more than pissed. But publishing private mails or pictures of the house where someone lives goes to far in my opinion. Even if it proves, that the unmasked person is not as nice as one did think or did say something really disgusting, there is still something like privacy the other did trust in. And if one does not respect it, the own level sinks as well.

That's it. Happy Solander bashing, but i think that this board and it's members should be able to bear a posting like mine.
10  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 February 21, 18:30:57
The idea of TSR being hacked on a "regular" base by someone outside TSR is simply ridiculous.

If you run a site like TSR, you are a professional in what you are doing. This includes server technology, firewall configuration and scripting. You do implement dozends of security checks, validate and sanitize data before being saved in the database etc. etc.

Even if you assume, that the whole system was scripted by a drunken noob, this series of hacks would be impossible in my opinion. As the guys over there should be able to track down every security incident (meaning someone changed a FA profile, deleted downloads etc.) within a short period of time. And after locating the security risk, they would have it fixed within some hours. Hole closed, no more hacks. That's it. And even if there are lots of those holes, it would take a decent amount of time for an outsider to locate them, to be sure they lead to the desired target etc. etc. Especially, as there are only a few parts of the website that actively process user entries. E.g. guestbooks, the forum, the comments etc. It should be quiet easy to run a check on every single character entered there and to be on the safe side.

And if you would be able to hack their site: Why only change a single FAs profile? Why not deleting large parts of the pay content or the whole database? That's like you do a bank robbery and only take the money you need to buy a pack of cigarettes.

So if they should blame anyone to hack them every few days, I had to choose between three possible reactions:

1. Admire the skills of the hacker, as he/she must be almost supernaturally skilled and experienced
2. Admire TSR, as they did create the worlds most unsecure large-scale website with public traffic
3. Don't believe a word

Just my 50 cents

But her other mesh is mapped differently - with logic, and not at all like that. If she used Cinema4D, it would have a similar bizarre map - but it's like Heidi's map. If it was the same with the other mesh, argument could be made - but that looks to me like a box mesh remap.

Maybe different mapping mode. You can set some parameters which mapping methods should be used. This results in completely different maps from classic style maps similar to Milkshape etc. to those "optimized" maps. But i can't tell for sure.
12  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Reflex forum is now closed on: 2009 February 19, 20:43:52

Here's reflex map:

They're mapped completely differently, except marcela's makes no logical sense.  Heidi's is how I would map it. Reflex map looks like she didn't realise she could use Heidi's mapped object as well - or perhaps she's a really crap mesher. Tongue

Oh, it makes sense. Looks like a map you get if you use BodyPaint, which is available with Cinema4D. And as far as i know, she uses it to create her meshes. The reason for those extremly weird maps is, that you paint the mesh in the program like using photoshop in 3D and the program creates the UV map and applies the colors to it automaticaly. This way, you can get almost perfectly textured surfaces (no distortion effects, smooth transition between different parts of the mesh etc. etc.) but the UV map is almost unusable for anyone not working with BodyPaint and Cinema.

Don't nail me down on this, but i am pretty sure this is the explanation for this somewhat strange mapping Smiley
13  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Reflex forum is now closed on: 2009 February 18, 21:34:21

Well, that's definately a shame.

And did convince me and Funny that Pimp my Sims.com will move from a strict "neutral" position with no pirates or pay content policy to a "we will not use any pirated content ourselves and will respect copyright claims of third party creators" but will also link to sites containing pirated content. And Pimp my Sims.com 2.0 ( yes, we are not dead and yes, we will start again soon and yes, that's a stupid name i know, but the upcoming relaunch is simply an enhanced version of the old, not longer up to date site) will contain a feature, where users can link to creations based on some stuff from our site. And we will allow links to pirate sites there, too.

I always thought this kind of "war" would end in the long run, but obviously it doesn't. And our decision to leave our strict "no pirates" position in favour of a more moderate position will be flanked by a absolutely strict "no commercial use" policy. Meaning that no paysite will be allowed to use a single file in whatever download, if it is not available for free 24/7 for everyone.

I know, somewhat off topic Wink

Ads are for losers who don't know how to use Furryfox adblock, anyway.

Ads help paying server bills and much more. Sites like mine, MTS2 and other free sites need ads to run their services. So if ads would be only for loosers, over a longer period of time all would be loosers, as free services would not be available anymore. You don't have to click on ads on a page, but if you fight against pay sites, you should at least leave the adblockers turned off while browsing free sites (this does not include popup blockers etc, as i do understand everyone who likes to block popups, popunders etc.), but there are lots of unobstrusive ads (including Adsense text ads, simple banners etc.) which don't harm anyone but help running a free sims site. Just my opinion on this topic.
15  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2009 January 05, 22:55:10
Of course there is the other possibility that they will endeavour to control this as much as possible. They talked of innovating cc with Spore, and I've yet to see a Spore download site - it's all centralised on the Spore exchange.  If they use the same system, you may need to purchase a licence to get the tools to set up a site that can share Sims 3 textures. That will cut out all those little independent sites with no moolah.

Hope they will not do so. I just do not want to have boobs monsters or penis warriors populating my game Wink only because someone created them and the EA servers decide to send them to me. Nothing against primary sex characteristics, but I like to decide my self, what weird cc is saved to my HD.

But the idea of purchasing licences for tools is really scaring. Not only as I am just preparing the relaunch of Pimp my Sims (the graveyard has to wait a little longer for us Wink). I still hope there will be a tool like SimPE for Sims 3. Don't know who will create one, but I would support them from the start, if needed.
