You can grouse all you want about "kids these days" and using the internet for research, but I will say this--electronic journals are so much better than their paper versions.  You can search so much easier for the information you want, then only print out the articles you want, or even the parts of articles you want.  I can't imagine the hell some of my projects would have been in college.  The hours spent in the library, searching so much...I could spend more time on the actual reading and writing instead of SEARCHING for sources.

Those controllers look really lumpy.

And, okay, if you were going to make a stack of games into a usable sort of surface, couldn't you find something better than a flower in a vase to display the function of it?

Well, I did the mesh with Cala's tutorial, and the way we set up the mesh in that, the transparency is determined by the level of transparency in the object's texture.  So it can definitely be made more transparent, I'd just have to go back into the layered version of my test texture and make the layer I put the glass on even more transparent.  Cheesy

And I'm going to let you all in on a little secret.  I generally don't post things fishing for compliments, I post things to get reinforcement on the stuff that I am being critical on, to see whether I'm being overly critical or not.  XD  In this case, I wasn't.

Here's a shot of the set that the toned-down light red is in:

And you can get it here.

Thanks for the feedback!  I am intending on doing two color families with this, although the lighter one will lack a black because I'm so picky with black, and I don't like having nearly black hairs in my black bin.  I even have two grays for once!

But it looks like I will go and tweak the lighter red shade a tad, it's a wee bit bright, so I will turn down the saturation and possibly make it lean more towards red than it is now.  It's always a bit of guesswork making texture colors with only bodyshop lighting to go by as you're working.  Well, if I'm making a neon, I can usually tell if it's neon enough in Bodyshop, but that's not qutie the same.

Once I get it to my satisfaction, I have to bin the things and go take some real previews in another neighborhood, with more skintone diversity than the S4 females in the new legacy and my self-sim.  XP  So maybe tomorrow or so I'll have it up.

As for the cosmo, I'm glad it doesn't look horrible, but that's thanks to the tute.  It also needs to be scaled down and textured better for me to want to keep it in my own game.  You should probably wait for Calalily's upcoming set, which she is working on, if I'm to believe what's stated in the tutorial.  XD

Using Calalily's tutorial, I made a Cosmo!

...okay, that's not actually why I'm here.  I've retextured a PeggyG hair, and I'm very happy with the way the texture itself came out, but I'm seeking some feedback/reassurance on the reds.

Basic idea of the texture.  In the past, the stuff I handpainted looked maybe a little too close to the Maxis-match end for my personal preferences, though it looked well for that.  I'm really happy with how this one came out.  I think I got it just shiny enough for my tastes, and it looks pretty sleek and fine.  Okay.

I'm waffling on this red.  I'm not sure if it's too bright...or if it's okay.  Especially if I am also offering this red:

Which is darker, and I'm really happy with it.  I'm thinking the lighter one would be a bit much if it were the only red I had, but if I have both, they provide a nice contrast.  I'm just not sure.

What the hell is up with their skin(s)?  They look like burn victims.  Poor things.  And then to be stuffed in those clothes afterwards, adding insult to injury!

I have never meshed anything before.  I can obviously retexture, and I know my way around SimPE.  I would probably make a really good guinea pig.  XD

HUSTON

HUSTON

We have a problem.   Shocked

I do use custom lights, but they are generally the ridiculously gorgeous paper star lamps, a couple of really pretty chandelier/candelabras, and ceiling fans.  I occasionally use a one-pixel microlight if I want to make it look like a ceiling lamp is lighting the whole room from the second story in a great room or stairway.  Even well made analogues to the things DOT churns out would have me going meh, because it's not an improvement over stuff already in the game.

The why is easy.  They want to nickel and dime everyone to death by controlling access to new meshes.  Couple that sort of control with a game that isn't really an improvement over the previous installment, though, and what's the point of getting it?

You might be able to cut back to the point you only got tiny rashes?

Ugh, I have a mysterious plant in the woods near my house that makes me break out in a rash if the CAT finds it outside and then I pet the cat, so you have my sympathy on the rash bit.

...and I have mad love for clove cigarettes, but since I only smoke outdoors and/or while drinking at the residence of a smoker friend, I find myself going through a total of like 5-6 packs a year.  I have a feeling my Diet Mountain Dew habit will kill my body long before the clove smoke.

It didn't get any better.

My problem is I will never know if I have any orphans if I use that scanner, because it always brings up the same, oh, 300 files or so.  That aren't orphans.  That I use quite often.  That I actually have pictoral evidence that are working just fine as of my last playthrough.

Criquette's Marina set is the best thing that ever happened to my custom island hood.  Now I just have to decide if the landing strip is on the part of the island that my neighborhood is, or leave it back on some other portion (and in my imagination).

If by "scans orphans" you mean, marks items I know aren't orphans as orphans while not actually marking any orphans, then sure it did.  XD

I may try it out just to see if it manages to get any this time.

I love that eyeglasses mesh, but if I remember correctly, it is one of the ones I had to fix so they wouldn't flash blue.

I have the fixed mesh in a zip file here.  I had originally tossed up the zip file because someone had seen a picture of my self sim and wanted the glasses she was wearing, which came from one of the Daum forum megapacks I got off of GoS.

But, anyway it's a tiny upload, and you can just toss out the recolors and nab the fixed mesh if you'd like.

You can't pin the lift on the prescription ad ban on this administration, though...I believe they started popping up when I was still in high school, at least ten years ago, now.  (Ads for things like Clariten and Propecia.)  The debacle that was the 2000 election was during my first year of college.

I'm of a slightly different mind.  Since counters ARE glorified boxes, as long as the meshed shape is different from a Maxis counter, I don't think it's a big deal to add a couple of custom ones in.  Provided they're well made and all, since polycounts on A BOX aren't too high if done right.

Now, custom couches I have no use for.  I just love the NL modular and blake_boy from MTS2's modular couches too much to really use anything else, so I don't need anything else!  I really need to weed out some of my custom chairs and dining tables as well.
