I'm of two minds with people who are self-described assholes.

There's the type that think that stating this is a free pass to be an asshole to everyone, without any reason, and without any one calling them out on their poor behavior.

Then there's the type that use the statement to inform people out there that they don't mince words with false niceties if the situation warrants harsh words.

Most people fall into the former category, but I have no problem with the latter.  I have no problem with people who are assholes when they have a reason to be.  It's when every single thing you do or say is assholish that you lose worth as a friend or colleague or acquaintance, in my eyes.

It's often a subtle difference, but I can see it.  To me, that's the difference between someone like BBB, who, from what I've seen, lashes out at every single person and thing, almost to "prove" his assholishness, and someone like Pescado, who lashes out a lot, but only at people and things that he deems deserving.

I have been a total lazyass about posting any tutorial over there.  I'd been intending to get the genetics one up in some form over there for ages.

Part of this is because I'm unsure about whether they should be posted on the forum and then linked from the wiki, or if I should just put them on the wiki itself, and then whether I need to reupload all the pictures, or whether linking mine is okay.  (I have a permanent LJ account with photohosting, so I'm good on bandwidth and all that, but perhaps another copy on the MTS2 servers is better.)

I think about all of that, and decide I'd be better off actually adding to my tutorials instead, and so we are here. XD

*faints* That is awesome... I'm going to try this too. Thanks very much!

Thanks!  The tutorial is a bit derivative, but I figure it's a good starting place for those who have never painted/digitally painted anything.  They get a new texture that's pretty usable.

Also, I'm just now getting the hang of doing new alpha work on hairs, myself, so it's a bit early in my experience to write a tutorial on that.  XD

Soggy, I'm really digging the meshes. And even though I'm not fond of that particular shade of green on the tablecloth...it doesn't matter, because it's repository!  Yay.  XP  As for anything to add...  Seeing that plastic garbage can in the last couple of pictures...it looks a little out of place.  I have no idea how difficult it would be to mesh a garbage can, because there are some animations involved, but I think a kitchen garbage can in wood that matches the dining set would be pretty neat.  I don't know if you know the type I'm thinking of, the body of it is square, and then there's an downward angled wooden hinged top.  A lot of times, a design or words are woodburned or carved into the top, but just that rustic wood look would look lovely with your wood textures for that set.

Aaaand, my hair textures aren't anywhere as awesome as Nouk's, but I asked over at my LJ and there was some interest in a tutorial for handpainting hair textures, so I made one.  I think my technique may lend itself more towards the Maxis Match end of the spectrum.

Two years later, Numenor heartily agrees with a sentiment of a very adamant paycreator that all pirates are now wrong, even though the EULA has not changed, and that we should also all get asscancer.

Uhm, no. And I think several people are making that mistake. Numenor did NOT say anything about ass cancer. Only Beos did that. What Numenor did was say ‘FUCK YOU’ to all pirates. I'd say that's an entirely different kind of comment.

Quote from: Numenor
this clarification lets me merrily join you shouthing FUCK YOU to pirates of any kind, any race and any level of stupidity.

Should I have said he merrily agreed instead of heartily?  I didn't say he said that.  I said he agreed.  Doesn't that look like agreement to you?  It does to me.  Maybe I misread it.  Maybe he doesn't agree with BBB.  Perhaps he completely disagrees with the sentiment.  He phrased things a bit oddly if that's the case.

I guess what I'm trying to say is let's just lay off Numenor a little, okay. He's angry at pirates, and personally I understand why he's peeved. Apparantly some people are offended by his anger, but honestly, cut him some slack. We all owe him, and on that account I think we can spare some slack-cutting.

No.  He deserved to be perhaps a little annoyed two years ago.  He threw a goddamn tantrum, and therefore lost all of the slack I thought he deserved then.  He certainly hasn't earned any back now.  Not by acting like a petulant 5 6-year-old.  You can give him carte blanche if you want, but I sure as hell don't have to.

And BlueSoup, really, none of us care about your relationship with SimMasterBurpie.  It doesn't discount that she acted like a moron.  And it doesn't really matter if you try to vouch for what she thinks now, she still acted like a dumbass then.  And rightfully deserves being called on it.  It's not dredging up old history to refresh someone's memory if they are claiming that things that happened a certain way happened another.

This is more how the course of events goes:

Booty grabbers staff decide to put all payfiles in the booty.  Because they enjoy using logic and enacting guidelines that display that this whole endeavor isn't really an attack on any person or site, just the concept of content-for-pay.

Numenor throws a shitfit, takes the fact that his one content-for-pay item is...in the content-for-pay item repository personally, and posts a ridiculously biased poll on his website, and pimps it over on MTS2.

The general consensus over here is we would like to remain neutral, logical, and all that jazz, and everything dies down.

Two years later, Numenor heartily agrees with a sentiment of a very adamant paycreator that all pirates are now wrong, even though the EULA has not changed, and that we should also all get asscancer.

...now...I admit I'm a little biased, because I don't take kindly to people who defend pay content.  I see it as a group of modders, many who have been in other communities and know this is an anomaly, fleecing naive internet/gaming noobs for custom content because they can.

But I sincerely believe that yes, Numenor is indeed was a fuckwit and is continuing to be a fuckwit.  You can be talented and still be an asshole.
22  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Ea makes statement March 2 making paysites ok? on: 2009 March 03, 06:44:50
I think the only way that sharing content would be non-kosher at this point would be:

a) EA releases some new version of Sims 2 add-on with a new EULA saying paysites are a-okay
b) pay content is released that requires new version of the game to work

They can't go back and time and change the EULA.  Maybe if they wanted to change it around NL or so, but then I'd still say anything that was basegame compatible would be fileshare friendly based on the basegame EULA.

Every current EP and SP has that file-share friendly EULA, and the whole library of Sims 2 shit is supposedly complete.  Paysites break every valid EULA for the game.  It doesn't really matter what EA says now.  They had their chance to fix things for years.  It's over now.  If anyone's unhappy with that fact, fuck 'em.  There's nothing that can be done.

If I'm remembering correctly, those toilets have been posted at least twice before.  But I don't know if that's all in the last incarnation of the thread or not.
24  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Baby Roaster Excluded From Ballot! ROCK THE VOTE! on: 2009 February 26, 07:26:03
I mentioned this years ago in terms of the moderation methods on MTS2, but it bears mentioning again.

Post deletions by moderators show how well a site is managed.  The catch?  The relationship is inverse.  Sure, there are plenty of sites out there that delete posts.  Those are sites where I don't engage in discussion, and I'm sure a lot of other people agree with me.  But it definitely shows a lack of good communication skills on the part of those doing the deletion.

The constant post deletions have actually made it so I don't really want to engage in discussion there at all any more, period.  And this is prior to anything babbyque.  I see constructive crit, anything but a "baa, thanks," on a download, deleted. What's the point in trying to help anyone?  It doesn't happen to all the crit I see, but it happens often enough that I don't want to deal with it.  So, yeah, this is a hell of a lot similar to the way they roll at TSR.

I'm not saying not to moderate, but deleting posts out of hand is despicable.  That should be a last-ditch action if something is completely unredeemable--you've got a spammer, or someone merely posting capslocked profanity, but not when someone is making a reasonable statement.  The worst part of it is that it is eliminating proof on either side--no one knows if those were really horrible posts or not.  And given the trends I've seen, I'm willing to bet it's more likely than not they were innocuous.  You have a moderator outright delete ONE post that isn't out of line or inflammatory, and I see every subsequent deletion as an example of that mod being petty, incapable of dealing with differing opinions, and on a power trip.  Not all the mods on the site are like that, but perhaps I've missed their time to shine as a raging douchebag because they've deleted the post.

Or perhaps, more likely, there are several mods out there who just hit the delete button instead of actually thinking about the best course of action.  And there are some who do moderate, which is why I don't see them caught up in deletion storms.  Again, I don't have a problem with moderation, I mod the main LJ sims comm and have modded elsewhere in the past but there is a reason why the goddamn word is moderation.

On a different note...for some reason that thumbnail of Phaenoh's creation was making me think of something else completely.  I went back and clicked on the thread, and I see that there are a lot of heavily modded things.  So I apologize for what I said...now I'm wondering what set I thought it was!
25  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Baby Roaster Excluded From Ballot! ROCK THE VOTE! on: 2009 February 26, 03:35:27
I don't think it would be a travesty if the damn thing won, so what's the big deal?  It very well may be the best made...  Though I have to say, I really liked those slides.  But it's better made and more complicated than a majority of the items.  If you're going to have so many categories instead of just one short list of nominations, it seems pretty damn ridiculous to have a set of deco items like Phaenoh's in the modded objects category and leave out the roaster.  Not knocking the quality of the deco items, but they are just barely in the modded item category to begin with.  It's almost like they were put in that one just to make the category look "full enough" sans roaster.

There is probably some reason somewhere for an invisible column...but not one that is completely intersectable.  In this case, deleting the columns when you are done building would be a much better idea.
27  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Look at what I made and om nom nom it! (Post your creations pt. 2) on: 2009 February 24, 23:56:42
Oolong, I hope you keep on the same subtle trend with these makeups...I will suggest that perhaps you look into making them all into layerable blushes instead of sorting them into the category of the face they actually go on.  That way they can be layered with other makeup.  While many eyeshadows might cover up the top part of your eyebag, the lower part may remain.

I have seen a few other attempts to make "middle age" makeups, but I don't want to hunt them down to link them.  They were taken out of my game awhile ago, simply because they were not subtle enough.  While there are people out there who are middle-aged with some deep facial lines, they tend to be fairly subtle.  My parents (and my aunts and uncles) are all around the 50 48 age-marker, and they aren't particularly wrinkly.  They have smile lines and some creases and what-have you, but it's rather subtle.

Then again, I've had a few smile lines around my eyes as long as I can remember (yes, since I was a 12), some of these things are definitely predetermined by your facial structure and favorite expressions!

And I thought the Maxis elder bodytype was stupid for quite some time.  I finally just decided I'd rather have the slight unrealism of the adult body type than the cartoonish elder body type.  The posture helps a bit, and my elders tend to get plump more than my other ages, because they've probably maxed body and aren't forced to exercise anymore.  So I don't think the elders in my game look too unrealistic. Smiley

That creation is good in one aspect - that first screenshot made me giggle for a couple of minutes straight.  GALAXIES BEING SUCKED INTO A BLACK HOLE...on a bright, warm sunny day.  XD  Ginormous planets, the same size as entire galaxies...wow.

On the other hand, if you ever wanted to make a sims story about what happened the night the King of All Cosmos got drunk and ruined the universe, you've got your content already here.

Funny enough, we had a cat named Jinx who loved snow.  He'd run outside and dive headfirst into snowbanks...  He had a layer of fur that got pretty greasy, and we figured it provided pretty good waterproofing.

He also occasionally slept in the bathroom sink and played with the hose if someone was watering outside.

I have a strange feeling that the black outfit is some poor female fighting game character's outfit.  Just one of those hunches.  But I don't play them, so I couldn't tell you which character or which fighting game.  Cheesy
