46  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / TSR IS A SUCK-ASS SUCKY WEBSITE on: 2007 March 19, 02:19:43
Quote from: "scribble"

wouldnt enayla know how to spell her own username by now considering she's been using it in the art community for ages before the sims? The only thing up there at tsr is a few wallpapers from two years ago but they made her a select artist lol
Anyways, if it is really her account it would seem more like "doing it for the free day" than anything else, and like what was already said--she has discovered mts2 and insim since then and has shared her wonderful work there instead of at evil tsr, so it would seem that no matter how much he offers her, her answer is no.

PutanginaMo--if you want resources on how to set up a new sims site, check MySimSite or FFSS. This site is more about destroying paysites than setting up free ones.

well they can't possibly be 100% sims2carsource's because #1 there's something maxis in there otherwise it wouldnt work in our games, and #2 most car meshes (and apparently hair meshes) are taken from other 3D sites and just converted to work in the sims2 game--nothing original about that. I am guessing it would take ages to make a car mesh from absolute scratch (if its possible at all), which would mean lots of time in between updates.
And #3 if they are completely accurate to the original real-life car down to the lines on the seats and the name of the car (again, i dont know since i didnt download anything from there), then that means there is part of the car manufacturer's hard work in there.
Unless sims2carsource is coming up with entirely new car designs off the top of their head, making the mesh from scratch, giving it a texture from scratch (no copying a picture), and gave it a one-of-a-kind name, then it can't possibly be close to 100% sims2carsource's (theres no way for it to be 100% due to reason#1)
48  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / More and more disgusted with OpenHouseJackAss on: 2007 March 16, 03:13:14
actually he has been doing that since the beginning; the mesh creators even contacted him asking him to remove the meshes and yet he continues to do it. It's been, what, almost two years now?
I think the only thing that would make him stop is if his host shuts him down (like last time?) but that would only be temporary--he'll find another free hosting site and just keep doing it as long as people keep paying for his creations. Well technically they are someone elses free copyrighted images slapped onto someone elses free mesh but since he puts his name on it, it must make the creations his
49  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Glance Model Agency is back! :D on: 2007 March 15, 09:51:09
i dont know why everyone (not just here) keeps saying they cant get the site to load, it loads up for me within about 30 seconds or so
I think flash isnt the best way to go considering how un-userfriendly it is, but it keeps people from hotlinking or stealing images. Jirka himself doesnt design the site or do any of the technical stuff, a guy named "Adam" does according to the site info page. So I am guessing one of them thinks it looks cool and who cares if its difficult for the visitors to load/navigate

vii apparently you dont understand what i was saying or you dont understand webhosting.
In order for there to be stress on the server or overusage of bandwidth, etc (that would cause his host to tell him to upgrade his package or to pay for a server) there would have to be alot of people on simultaneously trying to download files.
I think he's trying to imply he is paying for a server (why else would you be talking about "processors" unless you are using the wrong word?) instead of using shared webhosting, and just based on his visible stats, it doesnt seem like a server is necessary. If his webhost forced him to upgrade to a server, he should have looked elsewhere instead of doing what they said.
If he is on shared webhosting and has a small limited amount of bandwidth per month, that is his fault and his problem for not finding a better hosting provider with larger hosting packages available. It shouldnt be that fucking difficult considering how many other site owners here, at MSS, at FFSS, and so many other sims sites have compared their webhosting and shown others where they can get good deals on packages with alot of bandwidth or even unmetered plus tons of webspace. And there's always google.
It is completely unnecessary for all those donations in one month unless a) they are all less than $5 each or b) he is saving up to move to another host and pay for a yearly plan in advance. A seems probable but he hasnt said anything to make it sound like hes looking into a better cheaper host and doing a donation drive to help move, which means B is unlikely.
I am no expert on webhosting either, but I know that I use about the same amount of bandwidth that he does steadily per month and have the same amount of visitors and I am no where near needing a server.
As Dour and Pyro said--It doesnt matter if hes kissing everyones ass while hes asking for donations or if he is a complete jerk--he is holding content hostage for ransom, this makes his site a paysite.
Did he send you guys over here to defend him? Because you only registered to post on this thread and you both registered on the same day, as if someone tipped you off to the thread lol
52  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / TREZILLAH!!! How could you do this to me??? on: 2007 March 14, 05:40:06
the point is, if you need donations, ask but keep it voluntary, not keep content hostage
once you start keeping content hostage, your site becomes a pay site (and is going against the EULA) and it makes you a hypocrite to say you hate pay sites but you're doing the same thing they are (even if it is on a much smaller scale)
If you want to send a gift to a donator thats fine, just dont tell them ahead of time to give them incentive to give you the money in the first place
if someone thinks your site is worth a donation you'll get it

is he really getting that much traffic that he needs a server? according to his forum stats the most he has had online in one day is 75 people (not online at the same time, just in one day). And that is since he started the forum--which is where all of his downloads are.
I can't imagine that he is actually having problems with bandwidth/traffic, but he may be having problems paying for hosting if he chose an expensive host (and/or a small hosting package)
If his hosting is too expensive, its his own fault and his problem for not finding (and switching to) better cheaper hosting, especially with all the other site owners sharing their finds for great cheap hosting (sites like FFSS and MSS have links/descriptions of webhosts I believe)
hes already gotten more donations this month than most sites get all year and yet they manage to stay afloat (and working fine)
I'm guessing all these people donating to him are either people who know nothing about web hosting choices, or they really wanted whatever he has in his donation area.
53  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Serasims Shuts Down--again! on: 2007 March 12, 03:46:38
wtf is your problem mary?
You started a copy of a thread that already existed and then get offended when people tell you that you shouldnt have?
You would be getting responses like this (although maybe with less cussing) on any other goddamn forum, even s2c lol
You said you like being here so obviously that means you've read the other threads, you should know that we don't start multiple topics about the same stupid thing, and if you knew there was already a thread about this, why didnt you just post in that thread (not that your post would add anything new or insightful)
54  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / A find! another paysite on: 2007 March 12, 00:55:22
well isnt that nice, charging you for things you get for free on every other sims forum lol
I like the fact that on the homepage they make it sound like donation is voluntary and will get you nothing. Then you look for downloads and all you can find is downloads news which leads you to the forums
Then when you get to the forums, there are no free downloads. They have the "special donation den" visible to guests but you cant download any of it obviously, so when he says they have 525 downloads available he means 525 donation items?
WTF. That doesnt give anybody the opportunity to try before they buy.

I also like the fact that they have end-user license agreement before you download; since they are violating EA's, I guess that means they're giving us the OK to violate theirs. It also says they give you no warranty or refunds so if you pay and the downloads are utter shit, oh well thats your fault for being a dumbass and giving them money in the first place.

This guy is unbelievable:

So where do we stand with the budget some of you maybe asking? Well, the good news is we're paying off the remainder of what we owe. The bad news...we didn't make the goal of paying it off by end of year.
Luckily with kind donations from people, and some small surplus ad revenue, we brought the outstanding balance down from $2800.00USD to 865.44 as of today.
By my estimates, ad revenue will decrease somewhat this year and I'm doing my best to compensate for that. However I do not want to depend on ad-revenue to sustain this site.
If you can find it in your heart to order a SimsPass Membership, we'd be eternally greatful if you could. All money goes towards paying off the WorldSims budget .
We appreciate everyone support WorldSims this year and we look forward to a solid 2007 year

If you read further into the announcements area you'll see he's claiming they have 3 servers to pay for plus he's paying for ads plus paid for vb blah blah blah...

Why would they need 3 servers if they barely have any downloads (which are all restricted to donators) and all the rest is chitchat? I have more downloads on my site and probably more visitors but I won't need a server anytime soon. I can't believe people are buying into his bullshit.
55  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Another good Free Site has left...A little help? on: 2007 March 12, 00:36:54
you could try contacting him. I dont think he makes meshes so he would have either linked to the mesh or included it in the download file.
That shorts mesh looks like it is one of RabidAngels (SimChic/SimsConnection), go to your downloads folder and search for: MESH_RabidAngelamATHBoardShorts
She allows redistribution of her meshes so he should have included it.

His site has been closed for awhile, since Elau closed.
56  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Another great free creator gone :( on: 2007 February 26, 03:20:55
wouldnt that (people missing her) require her to be gone for longer than a day?
Taking a break from creating would just mean not uploading for awhile. And I agree, most creators need a break away from it--sometimes several breaks a year lol. If she went awhile without uploading someone might pm her and ask about whether shes ever going to upload again, but taking a break from the community would mean being gone, removing yourself from it, and it doesnt appear that shes doing that at all.
So her outburst and shit-talking about the community was unnecessary. It led to more people checking out her threads though (people are suddenly posting on them more often now too) which is what she said she wanted before she had the outburst.

I am not mistreating anyone. How can you justify violating the TOS of pay sites to redistribute their work by pointing at the EULA, then wave the TOS of free creators (I said NO FAT SIMS, DAMNIT) like they are sacrosanct?

Did you read that part before you posted Scribble? Insulting free creators doesnt get you more free content either jackass

But on her journal, she does say she might come back so I'm crossing my fingers!

Usually when creators do that it means "if you beg me enough to come back and kiss my ass alot, I might come back but if I dont, blame [insert evil person or site here], the bastard(s) made me leave!"
60  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / HChangeri - another confusing move on: 2007 February 21, 23:06:17
holy crap
for one: does anyone even recolor retail sims crap?
two: does she need a category for every single possible recolor just in case someone makes one?
Someone should remind her of the K.I.S.S general rule for creating websites/forums. If she wanted to create a forum for recolors she should have started out making a general area for people to upload and a separate area just for links to pre-existing recolors--then if there got to be too many, separate into categories. Having so many empty categories makes her forum look pathethic and sad. But that's ok because it's just "beta" which means she's just testing it out and it could completely disappear or break tomorrow
And Tasarla, I don't know when she started affiliating with exnem but it shouldn't be a surprise.
