1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Carla Niven must be destroyed! on: 2007 June 25, 21:30:00
I haven't been to the forum in quite some time (I just grab the booty and run!) so I am quite in shock that CN is going so strong     ...who the hell is buying this stuff?  Does it look better in the game than in the screen shots?

Good thing Will Wright left The Sims..he would have nightmares seeing this mutilated piece of shit crapping up his creation.

Would this even affect anyone not in the US?  Because, though some may not believe this, the US is not the centre of the Universe. Wink

It won't financially affect anyone, anywhere. It might make more paper work for US tax payers, but there will be loopholes and no one will really pay any taxes. It just makes the congressmen feel uppity.

If they are collecting money because they are selling their hard "work" and claiming they deserve it because of all the time it took them to make it, then they should report it as income. Fill out a 'schedule C' and report expenses as well (such as bandwith costs). They would most likely show they are actually losing money with their "business", thus collect a bigger tax return...it could be a good thing for them.

Yeah, I stumbled upon that site recently looking for some mens clothes. Why is there no decent clothing for men in the game?

Have you ever seen Will Wright? I am convinced the Sims clothing must match his personal style before it is approved for Sim use.

yes, I am aware he no longer works directly with The Sims games, I believe his stylish legacy carries on.

I don't care what anyone's reasons are. I don't want the site associated with Wiki-vandalism.

STOP VANDALIZING THE FRIKKEN WIKI!

I didn't think anyone was still doing this.  I was pretty sure this was all after the fact commentary.

Looking through the history, this may be the original entry regarding the controversy from Nov 12:
(I could be wrong, there is a first time for everything)

Quote
There has been some controversy as to whether paysites can legally charge for custom content since the EA license agreement states "You may include materials created with the Tools & Materials on your personal noncommercial website for the noncommercial benefit of the fan community for EA's products". Protest sites such as paysitesmustbedestroyed[http://paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/] have started offering pay items from other websites for free stating that those websites are the ones that are illegal since they are charging. The fact that paysites may not be legal per EA games End user license agreement and that other websites are offering these payfiles for free is subject to censorship on many of the fan communities. The first causality of the paysite controversy was popular site retailsims.com [http://www.retailsims.com/] that closed citing that "I WILL NOT BE FORCED TO SHARE MY CONTENT ACCORDING TO THE WHIMS OF A SECOND-RATER" and then later urged other paysites to also close in protest. As of November 11th 2006 however this is the only site to have shut down although the site rosesims2.net [http://www.rosesims2.net/] has started banning people suspected of sharing files. The web master is also sharing information of these suspected people with other webmasters so they can ban them as well which has lead to accusations of rosesims misusing Paypal by sharing the confidential information with others in a possible breech of Paypal license agreements.

With so many passionate feelings going on way or the other. EA really needs to take a stand with the situation because this controversy won't go away until they do.

Some "Adsummers" is removing a paragraph from the Wikipedia article to hide the facxt paysites are, in essence, illegal.

The fun of Wiki is that it you never know what you are gonna get.  The last few sentances of this paragraph has changed again..that would be the fourth time in the last few hours     I don't know who put the original stuff in about retail sims but that is my favorite version.

The "rest of the gaming community" is made up of mostly computer savy, Internet savy young people. The Sims phenom attracted mainstream sheeple. There goes the neighborhood.

Well now you've gone and concisely summed up the whole problem.

If you consider that The Sims and TS2 is the biggest selling game of all time then maybe you could offset the sheeple percentage wise?

While I realize there is not much respect for Wikipedia, I found it very interesting that they have this to say about The Sims 2

Solander, thanks for sharing your opinion without ranting, raving, and cussing up a storm.  It is nice to see an intelligent discussion/debate with such a well-respected custom creator such as yourself.  Your creations are very well done. I haven't visited your site but I do have some of the stuff you have on MTS2.

And I don't think you look like Ben Stiller, I think you have a "Pierce Brosnan as James Bond" pose going on there.

Would anyone care to summarize the BBS link? A SimMaster has deleted it (with some choice words to the original poster).

Huh? It is still there:

I have deleted your thread. First off if you have a problem with another user on the boards calling them out on the boards is the wrong way to go about things. Second..whenever you upload things to the internet more than likely things will be copied. Once you upload it it no longer belongs just to you and there are no copywriting things on this site. If you upload it, it actually doesn't belong to you but to EA and EA gives the right for users to use their things.
Just think of it this way people say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so instead of being angry...feel flattered that someone copied you.

edit: okay..it is late, you want the original post from swiftyslam30.

I love tiny font.  It's good for the soul.  And it cures tonsillitis!

Yar! A good Mercury injection cures that also. And a few social maladies, I hear.

That only works if you swallow.

Her shop if you wanna look.

those... wait... those are her items? i'm still learning, but i wouldn't put my noob wares up for $1+ dollars.

who the frak gave her $100 for her winter set? i think she claims 2 people already paid for her meshes.

Me thinks she missed the decimal.

I'm still waiting for EA to steal my work. What the hell is taking them so long? If they had stolen it, the patch would be out by now!

On top of trying to crank out the Season EP for you and all your Awesomeness to repair, they are busy raking in the cash from the mini-add-on to the old Holiday Stuff-it Pack. Please provide them with a direct link and a bill for your time.
