Actually, SA, I also remember EA recanting on of their statements. I believe it's on S2C. It was in a correspondence between HP and one of the EA staff. Let me go see if I can find it. ETA: I found it! This is a quote from post number 483 on the "Central question" thread in the paysite debate at S2C. This is HP's quote. Hrm. I got another reply from Alex I. First telling me to report any sites that are on the fansite listing with pay content (which I and others have done and nothing has been done about them) - nothing about future EA functions - and then another one after saying he was misinformed on my four points and that the Sims team is working on clarification for us. |

Okay, I know this site is about destroying paysites, but I thought I'd point out the professionalism that Kate from Parsimonious exuded on the front page of the website in response to...what I suppose was "hatemail." Regardless of whether you are pro or anti-pay site, I would like to remind everyone that free downloads are gifts from their creator to the community. We have been receiving more and more negative messages from visitors demanding items in a particular style, or telling us how much they dislike our work and that we should make different items better suited to their taste, complaining about EP requirements on our houses, without even bothering to notice the large number of new No-EP lots we've published recently.
We are of course flattered when people like our items and would like more Iin the same style, it is nice to know what we do is appreciated, especially since our resident artists have chosen not to be paid for our creations. Some people are kind enough to leave positive feedback, others have the decency to spare us their complaints, but an increasing minority are treating us as if we are here solely to serve their wants.
To those people: we are not your personal slaves, you are not entitled to downloads and this type of behaviour is precisely what has caused many artists in the past to cease creating entirely. If you don't find what you want here on Parsimonious then try looking elsewhere, we have an extensive links listing, or try our Community Finds Section - try Google or if that fails then go and learn to make it yourself if you feel you can do better In a community where so many artists have a "take their toys and go home" demeanor, I thought Kate handled their situation in an exception manner. Now, I know we're a bunch of vulgar pirates, but maybe in this instance we could lend our support to a free site, instead of only focusing on the horrors of paysites. [/quote] |

I just don't see what the big fuss is. Maybe she painted over the original picture. Maybe she only referenced it. I don't know anything about graphic art. I do know a bit about other forms of art, though. However, I don't think what she did is all that relevant or even all that hypocritical. She took something that existed...modified it and made something completely new. 2-for-u took her skins, changed basically nothing and is now selling it.
If you look at this in a broad way...everyone samples. Nothing is original. Look at the music industry. Many of today's songs are just...recycled from previous decades. Sure, they may have gotten permission, but it still doesn't change the fact that they're "stealing", "borrowing," or "sampling." I mean, even Shakespeare didn't come up with too many original ideas. Many of his plays are redone versions of other people's plays. And he's considered a master of literature and theater.

So its all about the witholding of items that stand out to you. And I concur. But isnt there more logic behind it? For example: One pay artist says she "needs a car" which is ludicous bullshit. Walking is great exercise damn it.. but heres the thing: Needing a car means you are using your profit for personal expense.. now what if the owners of freesites of which millions log on to daily have extra reserves from donations and also "need a car".. Is this a double standard in play if the extra reserves from freesite owners are used for personal expense? See it all depends on the situation. For example, if someone opened up a freesite with a donation button and the intent to make money off of the donations and entirely spend it on personal expenses, I can't say that I would really agree with that. But if someone were to open a freesite, have a donation button, and get so much extra money that they end up having enough left over for personal expenses, without doing it intentionally, I'm okay with that. Of course, it would be even better if they realized they had extra and took the donation button off, like Nouk did, since people would no longer be supporting the site, instead they'd be supporting the creator. But in either situation, if they use the money for personal expenses, I don't really care too much. |

Here's my personal opinion on free sites with the option to donate.
So paysites have items that you can purchase for a set amount of money. Following this logic, that means that items the should very well be free, by terms of EA's EULA, are withheld from Simmers who do not wish to shell out that kind of money for content that they shouldn't need to be paying for in the first place.
Freesites with the option to donate may very well make a decent sum of money if enough people donate. Which I'm perfectly okay with, because they aren't withholding items. If you want to donate, great, but it's not necessary to gain content. So if enough people donate that the owners have extra money left over, I personally don't really care what they do with it.

Never fear! I will of course make free celebrities and models furthermore, but by the fact that i have received lots of requests about sims in the meantime, i have decided to open up an request portal. Here you can request sims you need for your game that i don't plan to built for my site. These could be celebrities as well as real persons out of your real life.
It's very time consuming to built a sim. I need to built the skintone as well as making real eyes, forming the face, maybe making the hair or clothes for them. So i would take 5,-€ per Sim and you'll have to wait up to a week or more (depending on how difficult the sim is or how much requests i get) till i will send the sim to you. The sim will not be available for download here at my page. Its just for your personal game only. Hmm isn't that interesting. People send her requests for Sims, so she realizes that she can make money off of it. These paysite owners make me sick. |
