61  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR Sharing your infomation! on: 2008 October 15, 20:19:03

I do believe that TSR met with someone over there and that they thought they were going to get the legal go-ahead to charge for CC. However, they've never produced anything in writing (and I called them out asking for it before) and they posted blatant lies to mislead community members into support their cause.

I don't really that they were intentionally misleading the community about that.  To be quite honest I believe TSR believed that EA was going to produce because of the close relationship and talks they had.
The key there is tense. "TSR believed EA was going to". That's not what they told members. They were consciously deciding to state that it had already changed based on the straw man that was the Content Manager EULA. And we now have pictoral proof of Thomas coaching Tomato into the same thing. TSR ignored two old adages "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched" and "Always get it in writing." And now? They look like schmucks. Justified? Sure.

Just like we thought, what we had in writing and progress members made over the phone was going to produce results for us here.  Nothing happened either way, for all intents and purposed things are about the same concerning EA as they were before either of us had any hopes.
Yup, EA dicked out on everyone equally.

Again, I wouldn't put it past EA for giving them reason to believe this.  If anything they were holding back a bit to drop it like a bomb on us when it did happen.  It didn't happen though.
Me either. I choose to believe the discrepancy between the contact we were getting and the contact they were getting was some sort of right hand/left hand situation over in California. Goodness knows EA does not excel at communications or logical business decisions.

As far as what I thought, The content manager EULA did have non-commercial taken out and I was assured that this was the new EULA.  It did seem that this was going to happen, as TSR always seemed to have a special relationship with EA/Maxis.  I am not the only one that thought the EULA was changing/had changed.
I believe the thread at TSR I posted in regarding EULA and legality was right around the time of the thread start (September 2007). At that time, they said they had been having meetings and phone calls with EA employees and that EA was sympathetic to their cause. They didn't say anything about the game/Homecrafter/BodyShop EULA changing. They said the EULA had already changed...that the version which was clearly only for the Content Manager was the new EULA. "Our" side was not helped by Miss Misinformation of SecureROM (intentional mispelling) fame, MaxoidDrea.

Of course, my stance at this time and to this day is that meetings and phone calls mean exactly diddly. It needs to be in writing. We had communication from EA Legal during the same time period (in writing) stating that paysites were violating the EULA and that filesharing of paysite files was supported by EA (I'm paraphrasing, but pretty dead-on).

I do believe that TSR met with someone over there and that they thought they were going to get the legal go-ahead to charge for CC. However, they've never produced anything in writing (and I called them out asking for it before) and they posted blatant lies to mislead community members into support their cause.

I must admit that I never press thanks and rarely do I comment.
Neither do I. I'm like that in real life (well, I do say thanks)...I don't give compliments unless I really, really mean them. I hate polite compliments. They aren't real. So if I do comment on something, you know I absolutely love what you made.

I also don't expect thanks or compliments. They are nice, but I don't do things for validation.

I about lost my lunch when I read it. I understand being attracted to someone like that. I have my own person that I have this ridiculous immediate bond and attraction to. But he's not married. I can't imagine letting yourself dwell on an attraction to someone who is taken like that, nor speaking about it to other people. I'm blunt. I don't have much of a filter when it comes to my boy-craziness. But I would never have spoken to someone like she did. It was disgusting (notice the correct spelling).

I'm one of those people who cries very easily, I always have been.  I don't cry at physical pain, but I cry when I'm frustrated and confrontation frustrates the hell out of me.
So do I. I cry when I'm frustrated, but also when I'm touched. If I ever have one of those "oh, so-and-so really cares about me!" moments, I start bawling. My one doctor actually wanted me to try drugs for depression as she was one of those touchy-feely types who cared so dang much for everyone and was constantly being super-sweet and starting me up on the crying. So she thought that meant I was sad, when really I was thinking that she was the sweetest person in the world and how lucky I was to know her, and I couldn't hold the happy in.

Oddly, I almost never cry when I'm sad in front of people. I cry very little in private, too.

Tomato, friend request sent. Same name as here.

Jfade, nice how you completely evaded the fact that you posted in a thread where TSR was sharing peoples' private information and talking about illegal attacks on PMBD. That's what we were concerned about, not the stupid wiki. But I can't say I'm surprised by your response.

And Pescado, you've seen apeshit enough to know that was quite an exaggeration Roll Eyes.
Quite the exaggeration, and probably contributed to Jfade's overreaction. Cart & cartload for Pescado. I'm torn between smacking Pescado (pointless) and chiding Jfade for taking anything he says as he says it.

I have no problem with Jfade other than the participation on the "thread".  I would love to know what got deleted.

Finally got an email from Live Journal.  Here it is:

Atwa strikes! Who else would care?
Didn't you post on your normal account that you've been using for months at least? I call bullshit.

Considering that the current EULA is a newer version than the Content Manager EULA and part of the changes included even stronger "noncommercial" statements, I find this hard to believe. Where exactly did you get this information? From Thomass?
Its not from Thoma$$ - this is actually reliable!  Cant reveal my source but my contact is on the inside and has said the coconut screenshots are several months old and wont be anywhere near the full thread (look at the atwat avvatar - that has been gone for months since she was burninated.  These shots were taken before then)
Of course. We know these are old screenshots from the time the thread was actually active.

Trust me - its fact (the Content Manager EULA was written by EA immediately after the big bash where T$R was invited but MTS2 were not - that's when it was done) and EA assured T$R it was going to be included in future ep's, but it never happend and no-one now knows what EA is playing at (on either side).  They are chummy with T$R at the top but the newest flavor of EULA is stitching them worse then ever.
Well, if that's true they got fucked up the ass. You'll pardon me if I don't cry for them.

Zube, I have to take your statements with a big grain of salt. You've only made two posts. We don't know who you are, and you have insider information? It doesn't seem plausible. Screenshots or it didn't happen.

Those rules seem really fun but I don't know if I could run a whole neighborhood of 1,000 people! You would literally have to have a huge neighborhood! Or atleast to me, but what boggles my mind is how they goals for 2,000+ neighborhoods! How is that possible!?
The key is maximizing your sim multiplier early on by unlocking the districts. That's an instant SM of 15, plus your starter 1. Additional points are gotten by building community lots, at 1 pt per 5 lots (plus 1 for your first lot). So get 5 player-owned community lots for the Business District, get one sim to donate a mil for a University lot (easiest way if their family is the one running all those businesses and taking the money perks). Easy 13 SM. Then chug out community lots (I'd endow them, plus add 1 lot/4 houses) to up the multiplier until you reach a virtual 25k and get a downtown. At that point, you get the 5 sim multiplier addition that automatically takes you over the 50k goal.

The major loophole? You can "add" another Business district with each 5 community lots, giving you 6 more points (1 for 5 lots, 5 for another district). So in truth, 5 community lots are always worth 6 points, not 1.

Is there some secret code?
Nope, just random typing. They all contain parts of letters. Most don't have entire letters.

She has a facial tattoo (one of the many I recolored primarily for my aliens as they are nice and subtle) she's totally going to regret when she's 60. And she's a near-fluorescent redhead who runs a pie diner and is expecting her second child.

It's a fun challenge due to the goals and how easily I can modify it with some of my usual rules. I've already temp-unlocked the Culinary career, am halfway to temp-unlocking Business, and have an SM of 2.

They claimed the new EULA wasnt ready in time to get it into BV but that it would be in all new EP's.  It never was.  It was posted on the main site in regards to the Content Manager and many assumed, falsely, that it was a universal New EULA!  They were wrong.
There was truth in T$Rs claim over the new EULA (the new flavor was drafted after T$R came over to EA where they met a couple of EA top-honchos and agreed it), and the so-called Content Manager EULA was supposed to be put into all ep's (tho too late for BV).  But it vaporized into nothing.  EA either never bothered with communicating the EULA to the Maxoids, or they changed their equally-grabbing minds.
Considering that the current EULA is a newer version than the Content Manager EULA and part of the changes included even stronger "noncommercial" statements, I find this hard to believe. Where exactly did you get this information? From Thomass?

Zazazu, if you still want more sims that you didn't make yourself, you can steal my previously uploaded legacy sims and mangle them to your pleasure.  They are already uploaded, might as well get some use out of them.  Post 1  Post 2  Post 3  (First post is a legacy gone alphabet, so there's some letter fun for you.)

That terrain looks really fun and interesting.  I know you play pretty small hoods, so about how much usable space does it have, would you say?

The earlier pic is the SC4 region. And yes, it was made by placing letters in different fonts and greyscale levels on a properly sized .png file. I like doing random things in Photoshop and seeing how they'll turn out on an actual terrain. The great thing is that the north half of the region has areas that easily give near-level beach lots. Download link, in case you have SC4 and want to cut your own roads.

I only have a couple "cities" that I've smoothed and paved. One has way too much liveable area for my taste. The other one is this:

I placed beach lots. Download link

The founder is Alani Merritt, now Alanii Thunderfist as she married a sim called Koit Thunderfist (coolest random name ever) after her first beau lied to her about how much money he had, presumably to get her into bed. Koit had less money but at least he's not a lying bastard. I'm playing the BACC challenge while throwing in more curves from my usual playstyle.

I think she's Missbonbon's.

No, instead it was updated December 12, 2007. The new copy is still in AL.

Thanks, Missbonbon, and Crunk, for the simmies. I'm starting a new 'hood because I thought making new SC4 terrains using letters would be interesting. It is. I need founders!

Even now, they're probably huddled inside their sekrit forum (where they imagine they're even more speshul) attempting - and lamely, judging by the coconut chronicles - to lay the blame for this latest fuckup at everyone's doorstep but their own. They don't get it so I highly doubt they'll be able to get over it.

Nope, the fuckers are gonna have to be smoked out.
I seriously want to see copies of that, too. But I'd understand if Coconut (or her connection, as Coconut's status is not known) wants to sit on that for a bit.
