Nah, I figured you were joking. I just used the segue to say something or other about why it may not be a good move for some people.

You guys are lucky that you're completely happy with your layouts. I never am. I'm a lazy being by nature though, so I get to a certain point and stop messing, and just leave it till I'm either comfortable looking at it, or can't stand it and start over. I was just at that point with my site, after having been mostly comfortable with it for a year. I guess it probably has something to do with the fact that I was an avid web-designer for several years, until PHP refused to click with my brain, so I always look for the little flaws.

Does anyone have a decent collapsible category plugin? I've got one, but I don't think I really like it. I've seen prettier ones, but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Yep, this is my plan from Godaddy:
Quote
Deluxe Plan
100 GB Disk Space
1,000 GB Data Transfer

You get your choice of linux or windows platform, and like 25 SQL databases. It isn't bad at all. It's still shared hosting, but I haven't had any speed issues on this plan. The basic plan is $3.99 and has something like 5GB of disk space and 250GB transfer, but the basic shared server was too slow to host a forum on. But really, for a basic sims site sans forum, that's a pretty reasonable package. Even when I was on disability and couldn't even afford $4 a month extra, I always had a kind person or two donate to cover it. There is NO excuse for a paysite.

Hec, I don't think anyone is trying to force you to switch Tongue

A plain HTML site was fine for me for a long time, but now I'm totally lazy and want something that's easy to use. If I wasn't doing a lot of updating with downloads and all that crap, I probably wouldn't have switched either. Wordpress has its uses, but on a site that has fairly static information or doesn't need a lot of updates, then why bother?

Bandwidth is really a joke, at this point. For example, I get 1000 GB of transfer (bandwidth) a month for $6.99. GoS and DP use only about a quarter of it, and that's being generous. We also get quite a bit of traffic on the forum at different times. If I really needed more, I think I can double or triple that for $12.99 a month. If you need all that bandwidth for your site, chances are at least one or two people will help you out and donate enough to pay your bill. Bandwidth isn't that expensive anymore.

Even with all this talk of 'greater' and 'lesser' paysite evils, a paysite is still just that-- a paysite. Even the free things from a paysite are part of that paysite. If you are advertising free sites, a site that has pay content SHOULD be excluded. It can be sad, since a few sites have a large quantity of quality free stuff, but if it has 'donation sets' then it's not really free.

I think I've got about five plugins active so far, and since I'm not going to be using it for a lot of blogging or anything, I am fairly confident I won't keep adding them once I get things working how I want them.

I've actually looked at more than one CMS before-- Mambo, Joomla and the like-- and never really felt like they were right for what I wanted to do. I also didn't want a site that visually looked "blogish". I poked around at Nouk's site a bit, and was impressed with how Wordpress looked and worked. Once I played around with the theme, I'm even more pleased I decided to give it a shot. Now here's to hoping I don't bork it all to hell!

And thanks Samantha! I spent all of yesterday poking around in the bowels of CSS playing "whats this do?". I think it worked out okay Smiley

Thanks sparkle Smiley

I think I have the theme all sorted now, and I've already become a plug in junkie! I even skinned the login screen, and I'm the only one who will ever see it. Now comes the fun part, re-uploading everything into new categories...

Still, this whole thing has been remarkably easy. I've spent most of my time fussing with the css style sheet, but really, it's a very easy way to put together a sims site. And I very much look forward to being able to update without having to manually add code to a dozen different pages.

Those eyes appear to be one of Bruno's sets. I think they may be Kylie, but I'm not positive. They should be on MTS2, but watch out. Bruno's eyes are terribly addictive and there are so many!

Well, I've started switching over, you all convinced me. If you want to see the layout I'm working on, click the Digital Perversion link thing in my sig. I am much to lazy to type out the URL...heh

Mando said it better than me Smiley

I am trying to remember the details of the outfit, but I thought the bodice fabric was gathered at the sides and middle back at the zipper, which is why the gathers look that way in the back. They would drape just a bit at the center point between seams, but the curve shouldn't be quite that drastic since the gathers are relatively close together. I'm probably not explaining very well.

If I recall, I *think* that dress was gathered in the back, hence the regularity of the lines. However, even on gathered fabric, it shouldn't be exactly symmetrical, which is what gives it that "alien bones" look. Also, I don't think it should drape quite that much, maybe a little less curvature would help. The top seems like the texture was cut off a bit, which makes it look a little odd. Gathered and draped textures are tough to do by hand, and Inara's clothes are full of both.

I've been considering switching to something like Wordpress for awhile, and I think I might actually give WP a go. What plug ins and things do you guys recommend?

Indeed it would help. I didn't think Sailor June updated anymore Smiley

And Paladin's objects are made of win, whereas Simslice is maid of fail and lose. And the code is bullshit, too.

You know what would be a great resource? A compiled list of all free sims sites, perhaps broken down into category or style. It would be a major undertaking, though.

Pfft. Not worth the wait my ass. She clearly doesn't deserve Nouk, Nymphy, or any of the other artists on Nouk's site.

What a douche.
