 is this thing for REAL?? So some people just donated some of their booties to support the site owners to buy a jockstrap?? Thank God I'm not one of them, I knew I was too smart for this...

No, no. Jack donated his booty for versacce underwear.

Poor dupes donated their money to his paysite so he could buy a dirty jockstrap.

Well, at least if it oozes out on his shoes, no big deal. What's a few more stains?

It makes it harder on everyone in the end.

I'd say he's already getting it hard in the end. That doesn't seem to be the problem he's facing Tongue

What else would he wear when he's standing on the streetcorner? That $25 dollar weave lets his john's know that he aint no low class ho. And that Carla Niven is almost as good as vercacce, if you look at them in the dark.

Prostitution is certainly easier, it seems. He just has to show up, close his eyes, and think of Eric Bana.

That is a very good point Feverish. Maybe he thinks he's too good to be out there working with the mexicans who cross over illegally. Or maybe he's too damn lazy. Say what they will about them, mexicans who come to the US are seriously some of the hardest workers I've ever seen.

Err. Wow. I knew he was gay, and I'm quite aware of the things that go on in that case, so no shock with the gay sex bit. At least he's getting some, right? But prostitution? Now then, maybe if we would all kick in a bit more money to his pay site he wouldn't have to sell his body on craigslist. Then he could buy his own versacce underwear and hugo boss cologne.

And uh, pay for nursing school. Yeah.

Also, I'm a bit disgruntled that he is using paysite revenue to buy dirty jockstraps.

Of course Pescado has a lawn. Thats where he buries the mines.

I really don't understand the whole "omg credit!" issue. Sure, I appreciate it as a creator when people don't claim to have made my stuff, or drop a link, but I don't raise holy hell when they don't. And as much as I hate the toxic landfill they call the exchange, I know my stuff ends up there. So what? But I'm pretty sure I've ranted about all this before. Credit is overrated, as is all this "ask my permission before you breathe on my precious creation!" crap.

I liked HR, before this whole mess. I sent her a polite and cordial email expressing my opinion on paysites and telling her that her site is not really a target, she only has one donation set available and we have bigger fish to fry. I also told her that filesharers really have no interest in destroying anyone's creations or claiming them as their own, they just don't want to pay for files that legally can't be sold. I never got a reply.

My policy in this whole dramafest of a cause has been to take the high road and not make things personal, unless someone really, really deserves it. I'm not really that good at being a raging bitch anyway. However, I have to say it. HR has totally gone fucking psycho. This Ayn Rand quoting, bullshit  spewing tyrade complete with hacker threats and second-grade level name calling just makes me cringe. It's embarassing, seriously. I hate to even be called a "Creator" when this kind of stuff champions the cause.

It is kind of a pity she's decided to go this route, as I do enjoy some of her sets very much. However, I think trying to hold downloaders hostage by demanding you play her way or she'll take her toys and go home is a bit hypocritical, seeing as she accused this site of basically forcing her hand. As far as I know, no one here ever even contacted her. She can do whatever she wants, make as many paysets as she wants. We'll just keep doing what we do.

It's amazing though, how many people point to this site as being a bunch of thieving low-lives who live to stir up trouble for hard working creators, when we'd be perfectly happy to be ignored by them completely. Also, I don't think they, in their 'righteous indignation' really understand that by raging against us, they are drawing attention to our cause and more people join us everyday.
294  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / More on MTS2 banning links or mentioning PMBD in sigs on: 2006 November 05, 09:47:36
Bah. Who needs it anyway? I don't think I'm even registered at S2C. I checked it out and found it a little too close to BBS type stuff for me. Not as bad, but still clearly overrun by teenagers and things. Thats how I fell in with the BAD people at MATY, I'm a sucker for that intelligent conversation. (And yes, the retardoland stuff too. But don't tell!)

*edit* So... who wants to be the one that tells Delphy about the EULA and the fact that the content here was bought and paid for? Volunteers? Anyone? Anyone?

*edit again* Nevermind. Pescado already did it.

295  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING ?? on: 2006 November 05, 00:56:40
Lizard, creating content for a game legally can't be anyone's job but the developers themselves. EA legally owns the filetypes and everything else. Allowing people to create sims content to support themselves and their families was never the intention of EA, Maxis or the Sims Community.

I am not going to comment on anything to do with HR's personality or anything like that, I've kind of decided to take a high road and try not to make things personal. Besides, I've had some contact with her before and she is a pretty nice person.

However, uhh... Okay. Having everyone band together and make an "everything pay" day would totally backfire. If that were to happen, people would realize exactly how bad the problem has gotten, and how much worse it can get. I seriously doubt making everything pay would make people stop sharing, if anything it would make them start. How much money do people have to keep shelling out before they realize that everyone is jumping on the "easy cash for sims content" bandwagon? I mean, how much does the community have to take before we won't take that crap anymore?

And Motoki touched on the most fundamental thing in my opinion. Game mods done by a community of game fans have always, with good reason, been free. The people who make mods have traditionally known that they own nothing that they are modding, it takes a great deal of work and creativity, but in the end they actually have rights to squat, and charging for it is anathema. You just don't charge for something you don't own. Somehow during TS1, the Sims community forgot about all that, and now it is an epidemic.
297  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Carla Niven must be destroyed! on: 2006 October 29, 03:17:49
I'm betting that the majority of people who go to that site are only there to gawk at the hideousness of the wares. I'd forgotten just how seriously terrible some of that stuff is. There is one dress that was literally made with just the mosaic filter in photoshop.
298  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Carla Niven must be destroyed! on: 2006 October 29, 03:08:31
People have tried to tell her that her stuff isn't worth paying for, especially not $15. She insists her stuff is great and that people are just jealous of her talent or don't appreciate how good it is. She's also been called on the fact that she used the textures from a free item from Boutique Emilie and charged for it. She doesn't care. She says that tons of people sub to her site.

Poor woman is clearly delusional.

Also, the fact that the boobs hang out on just about every outfit just screams good taste, doesn't it?
299  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / For Lyriclee on: 2006 October 27, 20:55:02
I'm with Stella, I don't hate LyricLee either. No reason to, really. She has her own opinion, we have ours. We CAN be adults about this without stooping to name calling, can't we?

And wow, some of you people really jumped to the wrong conclusion about what Kathy said. EA overcharges for EPs and "stuff packs". Unfortunately, there is nothing legal we can do about it. It costs a lot of money to keep buying the games. Being expected to pay for content that EA has stated must be free is stupid. If paysite owners want to talk about legality, they don't have a leg to stand on. Also, many of these site owners use free meshes from other sites, or do photoskinning from textures they have found online. If the owners of these resources knew that they were using their property for profit, they would probably be pissed.

And yes, I am a creator. I do know how much time and effort goes into this stuff. I do it because I enjoy it, and the fact that people want to download and use my creations makes it worthwhile to me. I also have a non-obligatory paypal donation button on my site. Like I've said before, enough people click it to keep me open and running and cover site costs. I don't expect to be compensated for my "work".

Disability DOES suck. I was on it for awhile, and you don't get very much at all. But the point is, that there is aid available. If you have a family, you can also apply for food stamp benefits and cash aid to make ends meet. In my state, there are medical programs to help keep you and your kids healthy as well. For people who really need help, there are ways to make things work. I know because I've had to deal with that reality before.

I completely understand the not being able to donate thing. I myself am pretty strapped for cash now, and while I've donated where I could in the past, I just can't now. I also know that a lot of sims players are under 18 and don't have credit cards, or are in countries Paypal doesn't work with. I really think it is unfair to deprive them of items because of it. Pixelated items, no less.

When people CAN donate, and choose to do so, it is really helpful for people who do have bandwidth costs. I am totally appreciative every time someone donates a couple bucks to my website, because it really does help me stay open. However, demanding $5 from everyone who downloads from me is rediculous and frankly more money than I need. It isn't about bandwidth at that point, it's about profit.
