Your kidding right!? The full time programmers who we are supposed to help TSR pay for are actually TSR staff..?

Yeah, if I understand correctly, they didn't hire anyone new.  Unless they hired people to do Johan and micke's old jobs?  Now they want donations to help a company co-owner pay himself his own salary.  I believe Johan is co-owner with Thomas and Steve, right?
32  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: TSR: In Ur Accounts, Deletin Ur Stuffs! on: 2009 October 12, 00:02:42
making sure they are tested and working before uploaded to the site.

They can't possibly be serious.  The sheer volume of uploads makes that impossible, and I'm sure we can point to numerous borked non-working downloads, stuff with BHAVs comes to mind.  Do people there believe this?  Does anyone at TSR question it?  MTS has many moderators, probably less uploads, and they sure don't have time to check if stuff works.  They (MTS) check thread text and pictures.

-------------------------------------------------

WB According to Pescado at MTS, the RIPE network is all of Europe.  He suspects both people are using the same proxy, but are otherwise unrelated.  I assume the individual IPs are useful info, since most folks probably don't connect to MTS through a proxy so wouldn't be using them.  I know almost nothing about networking though, so just my assumption.

A Few Words From Johan About Donations For TSR Workshop Development

I was in ts3mod chat today and asked Johan about donations.  Here's what he had to say.  I have snipped some stuff that was about different topics, and kept all my questions and Johan's replies.

----------------------------------------------

Johan: yeah we're planning to expand the choices when it comes to 3d app support, 3ds and maya is on the todo list
Johan: we can add blender to the list
Johan: so far we haven't had many blender users testing it
*snip*

CatOfQuestions: Johan - Who is going to write these new plugins, blender and maya and such?

Johan: CatOfQuestions: we are
Johan: when we get the most critical bugs and features out of the way we're going to start looking at that
*snip*
Johan: i know wes was/is working on maya support via s3asc
*snip*

Cat: "We" would be yourself and other TSR programmers?  Or the contractors you employed earlier?  I ask because I would like to know what new TSR workshop features people can expect if they give you the donations you asked for.  Curious what new features that money is going towards, since the stuff you already have, plugins, UI, core package code, is either your own work, free community work, or done by the contractors.  So not sure what the donations would be for.
*snip*

Johan: CatOfQuestions: the "contractors" are me and micke
Johan: cat: not sure what you're after but the donations would go to help the continued the development of TSRW, there's still plenty of stuff the needs doing
*snip*

Cat: Johan - What I'm asking about is why you would ask for donations.  Will they give people more TSR Workshop features that they wouldn't get otherwise if you don't get donations?  Seems to me the work on TSR Workshop is proceeding apace.  You're working on it, other folks here are helping test and develop, and so on.  And you already get paid for your work by TSR, which makes money from subscriptions.  So what would donations get people?  Won't development of TSR Workshop continue regardless of whether they donate?

Johan: CatOfQuestions: it costs money to keep two programmers working on it, the donations is another way to support that effort, subscribing to TSR is also supporting this effort

whiterider: No particular part of the project that the money would go towards, then?
*snip*

Cat: Well, the work done by the free community cost no money at all, and they continue to help with development.  It certainly costs money to employ programmers, but TSR already employs you.

Johan: whiterider: no not right now, we're still in a stage where we need to expand in a lot of areas. When we come to a point where we have the basic stuff working fine it could be differenet but as it now it's pretty much general development
*snip*

Johan: CatOfQuestions: not sure what you're getting at here, yes i'm emplyed by TSR and so is micke, right now we both work full time on TSRW which measn someone else have to do what we used to do
Johan: CatOfQuestions: why do you seem to have a problem with us asking for donations anyway?
*snip*

Cat: Johan - It seems strange to me since TSR makes plenty of money.  They employ many FAs (paid employess).  So its odd to me that they would ask for donations to hire one or two more people, say to do the stuff you and micke did before you went to Workshop full time.  But you've answered my question already.  Anything else I have to say would be just about TSR's income, and not really about Workshop development, and I don't wish to annoy Delphy by derailing the thread.

WB, thanks for the info, I've copy pasta'd it at MTS in the relevant thread.

I happily will download any and all of their work

If I ever put my hands on those pixels I'll share them everywhere...

While we certainly appreciate the help, we don't want folks publicly stating what they're going to share.  We protect our sources by keeping them anonymous.  We do have some Evanell houses in the booty already.  That said, anyone who would like to donate something, please PM booty staff. Smiley
36  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Free Content Pwns Paysite Crap on: 2009 October 11, 03:23:00
Cat, I don't think it is really fair to compare pay content  for TS3 to free content for TS2.

My bad.  I'll go see what free Sims3 stuff compares, maybe I'll find something.  Maybe I shouldn't post while sleepy. Wink

edit: There, I fixed it! Cheesy

edit: Removed TS2 comparisons, added TS3 comparisons. Smiley

TSR pay dress (don't bend over in it)

Sims 3 gold satin dress and top by RandomNoir at MTS
gorgeous Sims3 satin dresses by All About Style, and the blue dress, you could put a gold pattern on it
There were some gorgeous TS2 tunics by Ninika, but they're ts2, not ts3.

--------------------------------------

badly photoskinned TSR payfug

TS3 belted tunic and shirt with cummerbund by All About Style
There were some TS2 tops by @ntoni@ that were the same style as the fug, but pretty and free, but they're TS2.

rum_nate, Austere, you've found material for the Free Beats Payfug thread!  @ntoni@ at MTS did 50's shirts and skirts better, and Ninika's satin tops sure beat that gold dress.

Austere - You're right, I hadn't thought through the Shouty Girl as singer idea. Wink

Lianaa at TSR brings us this photoshop fail fug.  Is it a buttnom dress?  You decide.

That curtain looks like it's not even textured.  Do some people just compulsively download everything new, regardless of what it looks like?

I encourage Shouty Girl to pursue singing, and leave simming.  Or learn to mesh and texture better with free site tutorials.  Either one.  Just please stop stabbing me in the eyeballs.

Does anyone know for certain how TSR approves uploads?  I believe FA uploads are auto uploaded (DOT bucketfill) and sheeple uploads are maybe checked by humans, but only to see if there's a picture?  Can someone give me the facts?
41  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Your Ugliest Paysite Creation Find: Round Two. on: 2009 October 09, 19:16:43
Someone killed Charlie Brown, skinned him, and made a dress?
Beads have specular highligts, at least paint them on.
Dresses have folds.

Someone hit the guy in the face with a Rorscharch test really, really hard?

He's really a red slaad and his human makeup is peeling off?

During this economic downturn, the creator could only afford red pixels?

Sims2 paintball ammo, now with realistic blood hue!  Also, face protection is for wussies.  A little paintball to the eyeball never hurt anyone!

He was savagely pelted with persimmons pomegranates and you know those stain.

That's all I got, sorry.  This is a job for SnarkyShark!

He was just trying to get some ketchup out of the bottle when it all went horribly wrong.

An update about the thread where the girl point out to Thomas the penis dress, its been 2 days and he still hasn't replied, and the dress is still up. Not that we expected anything different to happen.

Actually, I expected the comment to be stompinated with extreme prejudice.  I'm pleasantly surprised it's still there (the comment, not the dong dress).  That thread needs poking, so it's not forgotten.
45  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Your Ugliest Paysite Creation Find: Round Two. on: 2009 October 08, 21:18:27
What are those brown smudges on the sides of Shouty Hair?  Alpha Fail.

I know none of us are born knowing how to alpha edit, texture, nor mesh.  Few of us make upload worthy stuff during our initial attempts.  Most of us have the sense not to upload our practice stuff.  I've seen several comments from TSR loyalists saying they really like that TSR lets anyone upload crap, no matter how bad.  How can people be convinced its better to learn and improve than to be allowed to upload crap? :/
