Woah, Simal10 and Shakeshaft were demoted?!

I was on TSR today just checking to see if they had any updates about their workshop, and nope, none. But in the SA Focus it was featuring Shakeshaft. I thought I would look at her page to see if she said anything about being an SA now, and she didn't. In her about me section it still says how delighted she is to be an FA, and I thought that she needs to change that because she isn't one anymore, but she is. She is both an SA and a FA. If you look on her profile under her avatar there is the FA thing showing she is an FA for Sims 2, and under it is the SA thing showing she is an SA for Sims 3. So she still hasn't gotten any punishment from her theft.

Nobody got "demoted," TSR just created a new game category for TS3 and chose FAs and SAs for that game based on their TS3 content submissions (lots and patterns only, at this point). Plenty of FAs and SAs either don't have or want TS3 or aren't interested in creating for it, so they're still pumping out TS2 stuff and retain their FA or SA titles. Looks like they're hurting for TS2 submissions, they only have a couple of new featured items every day now. TS3 seems to have taken a lot of wind out of their "sales." (Sorry, horrid pun but I couldn't resist.)

That "Will Smith" looks like the love child of Muhammad Ali and Charlie Chan. Now there's a mental picture.

As for the permission for retexturing, I would've normally stood behind following the TOU. However, this mesh and TOU came from TSR, free or not, in this case as far as I'm concerned, it don't matter. And if Thomas minds his objects being recolored without permission, well, he should have thought about that before he joined a site that on a regular basis violates TOU's, the EULA, basic manners, good taste and who knows what else... <an image of Evi's kid clothes comes to her mind, and she wonders if those somehow don't fall under some paragraph...> Ughhh, that was a bad one  Grin Either way, this only makes me wanna quote a good, old saying "What Jack does to god, god does to Jack."

It's natural to feel that way. However, IMO it's hypocritical to condemn the practice for one artist and condone it for another.

Mind you, I'm of the opinion that meshers should always allow recolors. Meshes are useless without good recolors. Requiring a link back for the mesh itself is fine, and it's a classy gesture on the part of recolorists to ask permission and give credit. That's the way a free community should work. Respect and sharing.

Anyone remember the "Diva" Hair Thomas made back on '05.

The person who did the plaid textures I posted a little back did a retexture of of with with nouk textures, and it doesn't look too bad now.

http://blog.naver.com/bluetohazel/20069368229

I just wonder if she got permission from Thomas to retexture it because he said it can't be recolored by anyone else. Not that I would care if she didn't get permission, its not like people from TSR get permission before they steal use things from the community.

You're right, it looks fairly decent. Took a fair few minutes to find the download link, though. Babelfish was no help.

I remember downloading that mesh of Thomas's way back when I first started playing TS2, and though I thought the style itself had possibilities, the textures were so crappy that I soon deleted the whole thing.

S/he includes the mesh but I seriously doubt she obtained permission first. Had the class to at least acknowledge and thank the source, however, which, as we know, is not always common practice.

From what I've read, the new FA's and SA's were based solely on their TS3 "creations", so that could explain why LDG wasn't listed.  I don't think she has made anything for TS3.  Some of the new FA's only made a couple or three things, but undoubtedly they were OMG SO KOOL that they made the FA list... Shocked

You're right, as I understand it, TS3 FAs and SAs were chosen based on their TS3 submissions. Existing TS2 FAs and SAs retain their status as long as they keep meeting the submission requirements. I wonder if they'll eventually go all free content for TS2 content, the way they did for TS1?

Agreed. Let's go have a pizza and some beer, Dr. House!  Grin

Don't be so negative, CC will come to the rescue. Medieval players had all sort of CC to hide the technology in Sims 2. Painting tv, scroll phone, runic fire alarm. Crystall ball tv, hidden computers of all sorts etc... None of these were EA, it all was CC.
If someone made a mod that would graphically replace the sims 3 mobile phone with a banana, that would make it to play other theme. Well at least for prehistoric cavesims and for tropical/beachy sims Cheesy A rolled scroll would do it for medieval sims.
What could it be replaced with for victorians sims? A huge ham? A pitchfork maybe? Grin

I don't think I'm being all that negative. In fact, it's only my consuming faith in the ingenuity of the Sims community that keeps me from reclaiming the 6+ gigs of hard drive space that Sims 3 takes up. But come on... It's obvious that EAxis has done everything possible to discourage independent, FREE modders/meshers from creating content for TS3. My hat's off to Pescado for the brilliant Awesomemod, but even he has even commented on the insanely convoluted coding. I don't pretend to understand the mechanics of the game engine but I listen to those who do.

I guess it's pissing in the wind to complain about the way EA ignores its customers' preferences. But jeez, you don't need a marketing degree from Wharton to understand that the popularity of this particular series is based on the ability to mod, mesh and recolor. I've been a Sims player since 2000 and I know that without CC, I would not only have shelved TS1 but I would never have bothered to invest in its EP packs or gone on to TS2. Hell, I even bought a new computer based on my Sims 1 needs. Crap from the EA store doesn't begin to meet my CC requirements.

My point in the post you've referenced is that I wish TS3 had been launched as an improvement on TS2, not a replacement for it. And, if the new game engine couldn't accommodate that, would it have been possible to make the existing content usable in TS3? All the thousands upon thousands of downloads, not to mention the hundreds of hours spent hunting for and downloading them, abandoned? No way! TS3 is utter fail in my book on that point alone. I admit I don't understand how the game works, any more than I understand what wyrd magicke goes on under the hood of my car when I turn the key. But it seems to me that the developers could have, if directed to by EA management, found ways to incorporate the nifty features of TS3 like integrated neighborhoods and the pattern/color customization without sacrificing the beloved features of TS2. But no, it seems like they said, "Make it as difficult as possible for anyone but us to create new content, so we can sell the stuff in our online store."

Yeah, I guess that does sound pretty negative. Okay, so I feel negative about this issue. God, I hate EA.

Well, I figure I'll get it eventually, but I'm trying to put that off as long as humanly possible. Till, like, never. So I'm trying to stay away from places I know will have nice pictures of new Sims or really pretty patterns. Basically, AweSims. Also, no pictures where they show the neighborhood zoomed out. Damn that horribly beautiful view and its stupid despicable gorgeous breathtakeyness.

Nothing says you can't play both. I'm enjoying playing around with Sims 3 but it gets boring, fast. Maybe when the community figures out how to create meshes and the ball really gets rolling, it will be more fun, but EAxis has made it so absurdly difficult to mod/mesh for the game that I just can't see it reaching the heights Sims 2 has. Plus, it's difficult to create an immersive non-21st century world when every Sim can pull a cell phone out of their ass. AAS may be creating content for Sims 3 but without new meshing capabilities, their gorgeous Regency, Victorian and Edwardian-era clothing will still be the mainstay of my Sims world, and that means Sims 2.

There are pluses to Sims 3 but I just keep wishing I could play Sims 2 with the new features. Would it have been so damn difficult for them to just incorporate the Sims 3 features into the existing Sims 2 structure? At least the ability to mesh and mod, and keep using all the thousands of downloads I already have. Even if they couldn't be recolored like the new stuff, at least to be able to use them in my game would have made all the difference in the world.

But yeah, you're right about the breathtaking views.

I don't know if this link has been posted yet: Adele's site I couldn't find it in search. If it's a dupe I apologize.

This is just one of the huge number of drool-inducing clothes I discovered. I didn't even know Adele had her own site, nor did I know she did clothing as well as fabulous furniture. I went insane.

Screw Sims 3 when there's awesome content like Adele's out there for good ol' Sims 2.

P.S. BTW every single thing has a mesh available for both adults and teens!

While browsing through Community lots, that I am such a junkie for, I found this  and my jaw dropped. Well, my first thought was, "Wow... she kicked those Maxis Twikkii ruins' asses."

Seeing it in game is breathtaking... And definitely free  Wink

Holy s**t! I'm not going to believe this one until I see it in the game for myself. Un-freakin'-believable!

Thanks for finding and sharing this.

I agree that it's a better climate now in that kids can come forward without automatically being disbelieved and even punished for daring to suggest an adult did such a thing (especially clergy). It's a double-edged sword, though. Kids aren't stupid either, especially as they get older. You hate a teacher, you're mad at a relative, you just want to be the center of attention, etc., you say, "S/he touched me there, s/he asked me/made me do this or this or that." The adult is now on the defensive for one of the most despicable crimes in our society, and there is no innocent until proven guilty. The shadow of suspicion is on you forever, even if the kid recants. People will say the kid took back the lie under pressure, or the school or church or family wanted to cover it all up. I know people who've left professions like teaching and counseling because they just got too afraid of what could happen. Even stopping to help a lost child in a store or on the street, what if the kid started crying or screaming and said, "He tried to take me!" or something like that.

Nice set! I'm not getting any quizzes, I guess Firefox blocks them.
Nah, I use FF too, with NoScript. I got Blake's set with no popup, the popup came when I then downloaded Phoenix's Gourmet Kitchen Part II. So it doesn't happen each and every time. I'm not annoyed, I think it's funny. Unless it's a Trojan or something.  Shocked

I got the "Spatula of Indifference" or something like that. Smiley I think I chose "Fear and Surprise."

Blake's set is awesome, thanks for the link!
