Incidentally, I find it interesting that Johan initially showed up and prefaced all of his statements with "I don't know". Now he seems to be taking the position that he's actually very much in the know, but can't directly answer anything here because it's all one big sekkrit.  Roll Eyes

Of course he was in the know.  He was sent over here to find out the list of issues that the wider community has with TSR, so that they could write that garbage statement to address the issues.

We know the statement is garbage, but it wasn't aimed at us.  It is designed to reassure the sheeple who have heard rumours about what is really happening at TSR.

Myth: TSR's security breach has compromised everyone's account and identity

The Story: This is the newest one, and a direct result from my chat with Delphy. He informed his community that TSR was subject to a security breach early this year. He doesn't know the details and never actually claimed to in his post, but it has been twisted and turned into the "fact" that all TSR member accounts had been compromised and that TSR did nothing to inform or protect them. Its now even suggested that subscribers credit card details are included.

The Fact: No user accounts were compromised

Then how was someone able gain to access to Buggybooz' password via TSR?

When Delphy asked Steve this question the other day, Steve implied that the security breach was responsible for the leaking of Buggy's password.  Now you're telling us "nope, it wasn't, no way could the password have been acquired through the security breach, as no user accounts were compromised".

If Buggy's password wasn't acquired from TSR by hacking, then someone at TSR who has access to (unencrypted!) passwords either used it themselves or leaked it to whoever did use it.

And who is the logical person to blame?  Coconut.  Because Coconut has the motive.  And, from the screen shots, it's known that Coconut has access to TSR, higher access than other people.

But Coconut doesn't have the motive.  Coconut is doing just fine with bringing down TSR's reputation already by reporting on stuff that TSR actually do.

Why would Coconut need to contrive something like this, when TSR are already handing out plenty of rope for Coconut to hang their collective a$$e$ with?

Yeah, right.  I'm TOTALLY convinced these "hackers" (if they exist) held on to this information for 3 months, and only chose to use it now.  And I believe in Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and the goodness of EA, too.

EDIT TO ADD: Oh, and way to go TSR.  If you did have this alleged security breach, why didn't you advise your members at the time so that they could take protective steps if they were foolish enough to use the same password elsewhere?

Bingo. If there 'were' a security breach they should have notified all parties involved about possible info theft. It would have been slightly more logical (not saying they have any...) to say it happened the last time they tried to say someone hacked into TSR. (windkeeper bs etc...) That was what only a month and something ago.... Roll Eyes

When you take into consideration that the account information that may have been stolen includes email, password, and possibly credit card details, then it would be highly irresponsible* for TSR to not have advised their membership of the alleged security breach at the time it allegedly happened.  It is difficult to believe their claim that their membership database was hacked 3 months back and they are only now revealing it.  And does anyone know if they have issued a warning today to their membership?  Or is it only TSR members who visit MTS2, PMBD, etc, who are permitted to know that their personal info may have been stolen?

*But OTOH, such irresponsibility from TSR wouldn't surprise me.

Heh, TSR have now told Delphy that "they had a security breach about 3 months ago that may have left subscriber accounts vulnerable. If this information is indeed correct, it's possible that a third party could have logged into both buggybooz and Thomas accounts."

What a coincidence that the hacker should choose now to use this stolen info, and what a coincidence that they chose to attack MTS2 Buggybooz' account, so soon after Buggybooz lodged a complaint with TSR about stolen creations.

Yeah, right.  I'm TOTALLY convinced these "hackers" (if they exist) held on to this information for 3 months, and only chose to use it now.  And I believe in Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and the goodness of EA, too.

Still i think you're making a hen out of a feather here, any 12 year old with a grudge who can't do a whois and find the information on their own sounds pretty harmless to me.

It's possible to have a very nasty grudge against someone and not be computer literate enough to do a whois.  Speaking as someone who has received harassing phone calls in the past (as part of an intensive real life/phone/internet stalking campaign by someone I knew in real life), sharing real life information like this is beyond the pale - even if said information is publicly available for those who know where to look.

And this information wasn't even posted in a public forum so what's the big deal?

If there's one leak, there's always the possibility of more leaks, and the possibility that the other people leaking aren't blurring out the sensitive information.

What I find particularly offensive about it is not just that the information was shared (although that's offensive enough).  The part that really turned my stomach was that ulkhsn didn't act like any normal, sane, mature person would and request that the phone numbers be edited out of the thread.  Instead of behaving like a rational human being, they canvassed the idea of harassing phone calls.

Okay, I hate to do this, but the prospect of reading a 220+ page thread is a little daunting so... What has happened since Walt took over with all those polls and Delphy asked how much it would cost to take over? I don't need much detail, but just enough so I can keep up, if someone doesn't mind filling me in.

I have to work and RL last couple of day and, hell, the post count went from 150 to well over 200....this thing is like a runaway horse....on meds....catching up is going to be a pain... Cry

Cheesy I've been trying to explain to my boyfriend what all this is about and how I really need (well, want) to keep up with this.
"That damn forum will be there in the morning! That's what forums are for! So people can read it later!"
Yes honey, but... well...

I find this whole ordeal very, very hard to explain to someone who doesn't know the first thing about this community. I imagine this is how Walt must feel.

Same with my husband,he has no clue.
"Are you going to get away from that computer today?"

"As soon as I read another 20 pages!" Wink

My son has a vague awareness of the sims community as both my daughter and I are simmers & MATYzens.  He's heard enough conversations between my daughter and I to have some idea of the main community sites, to know the names of some of the community leaders, and to understand why paysites are TEH EVUL!!!1111  I started explaining recent events to him the other day, and he started laughing about halfway through.  When I got to the part about Walt's video, he started asking for links to read up on all this.  Apparently some of what I was describing regarding Walt's blathering on related to one of the subjects he'd studied at uni this semester.  Unfortunately Walt's video had already been pulled by then.

He's been having a fun time looking into Walt's online enterprises, and has been showing me sites of Walt's businesses, and explaining to me why he finds them hilarious.  He also had his first major exposure to lolcats used in context, during the rioting the other day.  Apparently his fellow students aren't much into lolcats.  The past week has been educational and informative for both of us.

While he did start reading this thread (when it was only 80ish pages long), I don't think he's finished it.  So I gave him the link to FW, as it sums everything up very nicely.  Having my son watching this thread grow daily also helps to explain to him why dinner has been a little later than usual during the past week.

I don't think I should be able to see some of the sections listed here, or read some of the threads I just read.  And it looks like Eric hasn't done a runner - he's clearly helping Walt out here.
