1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Take a look at this! on: 2007 September 12, 23:43:25
Sorry - I know I'm late to the party and I hope no one minds the bump.

EA can't (or shouldn't) really come out against file sharing, since the Exchange does much of what PMBD does, just in a more craptacular and less organized way.

Isn't this the answer to this whole debate?  The new EULA changes nothing in practice even if it does apply to all the CC tools and despite the varied legal readings.  The main game site is still a file-sharing site - THE main file-sharing site I should think (despite PMBD's best efforts) - whether the files are pay or not.

Those of us who have 'legitimately' bought pay stuff (because that's how it's done here, isn't it?) can build some lots/sims and upload them to the Exchange.

If TSR and others have a problem with that, they could go and ask EA/Maxis to remove their pay content - or give them their money back - or is it the other way round?  Whatever.

Or am I missing something?

That is complete arse - she really needs to get over herself.

And be sure not to miss any of the great sims in the subscriber area that look to be made of mostly Maxis content.

Ye Gods and I thought I liked ugly sims.

I think I'll open a paysite - people are clearly prepared to shower you with money for no particular reason.

That makes me think of that movie Amelie where she stole her dad's gnome and kept taking photos of him in different places and eventually her dad decides to travel the world.

Huh - they must have pinched the idea for the film then - the GLF has been going for years and years.  I've never seen Amelie - too sappy for me, even the music makes me cringe.  Odd really because I like Audrey Tautou as an actress (it is Audrey Tautou isn't it?) - she's done some very good films.

In England we have a Gnome Liberation Front - they disappear in the middle of the night and then their previous 'owners' receive pictures of them enjoying themselves on the Riviera or something.

Sure? I wasn't the only one blessed by her, so I don't see why you can't...use it somewhere. Smiley

I should also point out, she was against used bookstores for the same reasons. That's just not as insane as her library hate.

Ah - don't you just love the differently sane?

I initially think of pantomime dames, actually...which makes the concept somehow a lot more disturbing...

I... don't even want to go there.  We are talking about fully grown, usually extremely hirsute, men dressed up in big frocks and wigs and with make up after all.  In fact, I could really see Pescado as a traditional British pantomime dame.  Oh yes he is.  Which, now I think on it, is an even more disturbing thought when it comes to Dames-pork-a-lot.  Let's stop right there, shall we?

I think my idea was a lot more cheerful and conclude I am clearly too refined to be here.  What was the topic again?

On a completely side note, why is it that when you ask a man, any man, to dress up in fancy dress, they ALWAYS opt to dress up in a frock?  What's that about?  Is that just a British thing?

Damesporkalot.

That name is Dames - pork - a - lot, right?
I'm just checking.

*points*
I see what you did there.

Actually, I was just checking.  Really.  Honestly (completely removes usual ironic demeanour).  You are English like me, I think.  When I think of Dames I am usually thinking of older women in (late 50s-70s and beyond) who have been named on the honours list.  Somehow, the name seemed to be an encouraging thought.

I'm not studying at the moment, but I'm curious - do lecturers/markers/etc accept Wikipedia as a reliable source of reference?

No, but it doesn't stop us making use of it.

You're all going on about the boobs but I want to know why all the models appear to have had liposuction on their noses.

Tangentially, this reminded me of a girl I knew in college who was always talking about how she was going to be an Author.
Because of this (Huh) she was mortally offended by the fact that libraries stocked fiction.

She thought it was criminal that the library allowed people to steal money out of Author's pockets by letting so many people read books for free.

That is so funny - I'm going to use that somewhere.  As long as you don't get offended.

Also, I cannot be the only one who prefers short cute hair like ones by HystericalP or DJMur rather than those "Explosion in the bedsprings factory" styled Peggythings, right? ...right?

I'm glad you said that because I went to have a look at Helga's site (I've not read this thread before) and although the hairs look nice and I'm sure they're well made, I can't actually really tell the difference between the styles - same with Rose Sims/Peggy - they all look the same to me.  Big and messy and get in the way when you're eating.

What I find interesting is the sense of entitlement that exists with paysite creators. Its getting less and less "bandwidth" and more and more "I made this so I deserve to be paid for it, cause it took hours .

All those hours eh?  It takes me only, what?, a year to write a book.
