After all the suggestions, my friend came up with this:

She wants the satin skirt part to stay (it's based on a top she loves to wear), and tried different colors of leggings, but this looked the best.  Any more suggestions?  She will be doing an all sweater top with jean leggings next, but wants to get this one as good as she can first.

I recommend taking the knit edging off of the skirt, and changing the frill on the sleeves to satin. Smiley

Speaking of the couch, um, it appears to be floating? I thought it might be an optical illusion due to the position of the mat under it, but looking at the reflection in the floor, I'm not so sure... Is it just me?

Calalily, I don't quite fit your requirements, but I'd really like to give it a try. I've been fooling around with CC creation since the Sims 1, but nothing's ever come of it. I'd like to perhaps finish something before the Sims 3 comes out.  Cheesy

I fooled around a little bit with moving vertexes in the Sims 1 days (but never actually made anything), and I attempted to make a cat statue a couple years back, but I wouldn't be able to do mesh anything without a tutorial. I really don't have any bloody clue. Cheesy

I can't find my little statue, or else I would show you guys. I wanted it to raise a stat a little when a sim viewed it, but I couldn't get that to actually [i[work[/i], so I gave up. :/

More recently, I wanted to make a custom pet magazine rack (not just a recolour) with pet magazines. I got as far as cloning the object and extracting the textures when I realised I had ot no clue as to how to go about making custom magazines, and gave up. Cheesy

I think I need to stop having such big ideas, and take baby steps first. Cheesy A little hand holding might help, too.

What I would also find useful, if anyone is capable and willing, would be a texturing tutorial, particularly for clothing. Not one that teaches how to paste on graphics and trace over shadows, but with hints and tips for texurting for people who are not complete Photoshop noobs. One thing I find really frustrating is getting the texture to match at the seams.  Angry Painting a texture for a 3D model is a lot different from a flat picture, and it would be great if something could be written coming from that angle.  Kiss

Even as someone who is not a member of Insim, this concerns me greatly. I wonder about the details of the transaction--not just how much it was sold for, but more importantly, what was sold. Did "Walt" just buy the site, or also it's content? Does he think that he owns the creations submitted by the two communities? It's pretty presumptuous (among other things), to buy the sites, and immediately threaten to start charging money for content created by members of the community, and posted freely for all to enjoy, with no intention of it being SOLD.  Angry I hope that everyone will have no hassle with removing their creations if it becomes necessary.

You could duplicate the layer, make the top layer lighter or brighter with one of the tools, then put the eraser at about 50% and erase whatever you don't need. That gives highlights as well.
I can't do that because the texture is on three layers: flat midtone, shadows and highlight. The highlight on top is composed of two layers of strokes, and then a soft brush over it (all with a low opacity) because I thought it wasn't shiny enough, but increasing the strokes' opacity too much made it look too streaky.

This is what it looks like with the halo, and then without the strokes. There isn't much of a difference, so you can see how low the opacity is. Cheesy I don't know. Am I being too hard on myself? Does it look good like this? Maybe Maxis-like, but not in a (gulp) bad way? (With halo, for comparison)

What program do you use?

Yay! Cheesy

Here's the replacement shading. I hope it looks OK. I've been having a lot of trouble with the highlight.

I've been working on my first hair.  Cheesy I only intended to fool around and test out my ability to draw hair textures, but it's come together well enough that I will complete the project.

My first texture, on the mesh.  Shocked Quite a shock! I swear it looked better in Photoshop. D:

Second go. I squished the texture in half and added shading.

Third time's the charm. Cheesy Squished again and made a new alpha channel. I have always hated the EAxis alpha. I need to add the part back in.

The bummer is that I absent mindedly flattened my PSD, and while I have a back-up, it's from before I added the shading (see first pic). Sad I need the texture on seperate layers to recolour it properly, so the final version will look different from what you see here, but hopefully it will look better. Sad

Any comments, criticisms, or tips you may have are especially welcomed. I need all of the help I can get!  Kiss

ETA: After, erm, hours of fidding, I've determined it would be much easier to just draw a new texture. x_o
