1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / TSR IS A SUCK-ASS SUCKY WEBSITE on: 2007 September 28, 18:36:12

Frankly, I'd love to set up a free site, and I CAN code my way out of a box, (experience with neopets...don't ask) but my stuff sucks ass.

Er that's where I got my website coding experience too. Actually I still have friends I made over on that site. Now I come to think about it though, they used to be free then headed more and more towards paying for stuff and people started complaining about the service going downhill (although technically you can still play there for free). In a way it reminds me a little of TSR, although at least they're not being illegal in anyway since they own their own copyright.

Or you utilize bangs/fringe like I do in real life to lessen the glare off my own giant forehead.

Same here! It's such a pain. It really annoys me when I see my sims suffering from the same problem.

Thanks for the link to those brushes, they look like they might be really useful. I'm going to download them and have a play with some hair textures now Cheesy

I don't see how it hurts anything that she is a free creator at Parsimonious but a Maxoid on the TS2 site.

I do see it as a problem, however, when she is interviewing a paysite creator, especially as a Maxoid.

I agree with that. Hasn't she been a Maxoid for over a year or something now? I'm sure it's been quite a while anyway. Maybe the interviews are part of her job though, if someone is assigning her to do them she can hardly refuse. She's done one with Judie from All About Style before and they're a free site

Thanks for all the info, I read Netseekers post as well. Some of the stuff that goes on there is just unbelievable!

I don't know if it is a main source of income for most, but it could be for some of the more popular FA's.

I meant for Steve and Thomas and people like that? Isn't it run by them as a business or something? I thought I read that somewhere and I assumed it meant they were probably making a lot of money of it but of course that's so blatently against the EULA that I thought I might have misunderstood.

Sorry to move away from piratey polls but I have some questions that have no doubt been answered somewhere on here before. I've tried searching but most searches lead back to this thread and after reading the first 10 pages I'm afraid I felt asking again was the best way to go since I was only getting more confused. (not to mention I was reluctant to read all 120+ pages!)

I'm sure I read somewhere (the FAQ maybe?) that TSR was based in England, but I've just read a post here which seems to suggest it's based in Sweden. Which is it? Also I get the impression that this is at least one (if not more) persons main source of income. That just seems to fly so much in the face of the EULA that I feel the need for confirmation. Is it true? Finally how much are they paying their FA's? It must be a nice sum to induce them to give up their own sites and migrate over to TSR. If this is indeed being run as a business I wonder if they declare them as employees? I'm confused by the whole thing!

That's really good Aikane, I'd never manage to produce something like that on my first attempt (and probably not on my hundredth attempt either).

I don't really know anything about Gimp, I use Photoshop 7, so brushes for Gimp are no good to me (unless they can be converted or used in both programs?) I do have a tablet though, which is severely underused so if I can find some photoshop hair brushes I might give retexuring a go. I have some nice meshes with rubbish textures in my game.

I know a lot of people out there have already done recolours of a lot of hairs by Peggy and Rose but I thought I'd have a go at a few myself because I want to learn how and also I like having a few different shades of red in my game. The problem is I'm not at all artistic so I can't actually draw any texture on the hair just use the sliders/curves etc in Photoshop to alter the colours as best I can. I've done these few so far, but I'm not completely happy, I can't tell if they look flat or if it's just because I've tried to tone down the highlights (I think Peggy drastically overhighlights her hairs, some of the black ones look as if they are are grey hair dyed by an extremely incompetent hairdresser) Any advice or comments would be appreciated. I haven't uploaded them anywhere yet because I suspect someone has already done them and I've just failed at searching!

I changed this Peggy hair from purple/blue to black. There's the original on the left then two shots of my recolour.

These are the red hairs that I tried:

This is the one I'm least happy with:

This one actually looks good in the game, I'm quite pleased with it. I often use this style as my sim's PJ hair, for that 'I just got out of bed' look.
