Inge, since you are involved in the development, as are others from the free community, is there any provision that would allow Merlin or any of the other tools from TSR to be hosted elsewhere especially in the event that they are ever made pay?  I completely understand people being wary of TSR and their intentions for the future.  I have also borne the brunt of some of their unethical practices.  If the contributors from the free community could be assured that they have the right to allow the tool to be downloaded on a separate site if TSR ever tried to make these tools pay then you could at least reassure the community that if TSR goes back to its usual ways then you and the others wouldn't have fallen victim to empty promises by TSR and the tool wouldn't be allowed to be locked away from the pro-freesite community. If MTS or your site could be guaranteed that after all the mutual collaboration that if the tool was ever made pay then it would be hosted elsewhere then maybe that would satisfy some of the critics.

I was referring to this -

The notice on the site says this:

Quote
For those who don't know this, MSFS is Manga_Moon. As Sims Divine is closing it's doors, all of MSFS and Manga_Moon's stuff will be put up onto his TSR account 'Apple' ~ but don't worry, he'll see to it that these files will always be set free to download. Thankyou.

If that is true then He is already and FA.  "Apple" is an FA and is therefor pay. His stuff is aready pay at TSR so if he ads more then why would he keep it free?

I think it's the wrong step for that person to upload to TSR. Eventually the money will be too tempting and they'll succumb. It'll only be a matter of time, I'd say. Sad

His TSR account is Apple and he already is an FA.  The person who posted that about his Mts2 stuff staying free was saying that even though his TSR stuff is pay somehow he will keep this stuff free.  Ya right.  Everyone who believes that raise your hand now.  That is what I thought.

Delphy was working on a server switch or something.  They are back online for me now.

Nanu posts at Black Pearl I think.

I don't know anything about creating.  I was just trying to help. Smiley

Anyone know what Stylist sims (or whatever they are called) is using for their furniture because they have added a small site icon to their furniture thumbnails.

I don't have the tool but apparently it has something to do with a command for the 3d preview thing.

BTW, the ones by Apple aren't even categorized as "tile".  They show up in random category like abstract or something making them hard to find as well.

THat is great.  I know we had a leg to stand on with the EULA but since everyone had the ability to say "well, if EA doesn't care then why should you" and the fact that EA still did everything possible to support the paysites and refused to do anything to protect the freesites, at least we have a new argument this time.  I am sure that we will still get people who say that if EA says it is okay to sell things then that is all that matters but this time the community has spoken and for that I am grateful. When we would share a file in the past, the groups that would protest always pointed to the TOU of the paysite and said that we can't share their stuff because that breaks their TOU.  I am so glad that now we have a reverse argument but like I stated before I would like to be positive that I have the argument right so it won't just be as easily dismissed.

What TOU did Peter put on his tools?
12  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: SimplanX is starting to stir for TS3 content on: 2009 August 05, 04:20:56
That was exactly what I thought but I wanted to be sure before I went around the net "reminding" Paysite owners of these facts.  One of my pet peaves is people running around spreading misinformation in the name of the antipaysite movement because it takes away our credibility. I feel like there is enough real things to go after and if we all become conspiracy theorists then we lose a real audience and we become one more thing to ignore.  I feel like, at least for one, we have a real leg to stand on with the paysite owners since one of the arguments they have used for years is that we are breaking their TOU by sharing and that makes us the bad guys. Now it is them that is breaking the TOU and by sharing we are simply following the tool creators wishes.  If more of the general community could be made aware of this then our reputation could improve and the paysite owners reputations could take the hit this time.

So anyone putting out an object at this stage must use a tool that has a TOU that supports free sharing of the object in some way unless the creator has not just made the objects but in fact, created a whole new tool or plug-in that no one knows about?  I am asking so that if these sites start trying to sell the content we can point out that the author of the tool does not allow creations made with it to be sold or allows anything created with it to be shared without consequence. (depending on the tool)  I am under the understanding that Wes says you can't sell things that are made with his stuff and that Delphy says that things made with his stuff must remain File Share Friendly.  Have I got that right?
14  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: SimplanX is starting to stir for TS3 content on: 2009 August 04, 21:25:20
That is kinda what I am asking.  I don't know what tools allow for objects.  Is it the one I am seeing called DAboobs?  Isn't that Delphy's tool?  Are Delphy's tool and TSR's Workshop the only ones people are using for patterns or is there something I don't know about.  What about hair.  Is there something besides Wes's plug in that allows for hair to be done? I realize that there may be programs at work that we don't know about or people claiming to be using programs that are "secrets" even if we know what they are really using but can anyone make it clear what the basic programs are and what they do and what the terms are on each of them.

Just so we know what kind of response to give to paysites, can someone clarify to me (and the rest of us who don't create) what tools are they using for objects and what are the TOU of those tools.  If those of us who don't use the tools were more informed about the different tools that are being used as well as the TOU for each tool then it would be easier for us to "remind" the paysite owners when they break the rules.  Maybe we can get more to see the light this time.
