Oh god
I just came back from an extended time away, and I found this thread. Just wanted to thank you for making me laugh so damn hard I pissed my pants. Not very piratey of me, I know. (Well maybe after too much rum.)
On a whole other note, I was thrilled to see this site is still around. Thanks for keeping it alive! Long live the booty!

Dead horse (or should that be dead thread?) yes, but dead site, no. Got an email from my niece today that mainstsims is back online, complete with its donation button. Checked it out and sure enough, there it was.
kitkat Oh dear God. Make it go away. *Prepares for more insane ramblings about police, FBI and possibly little green men from Jupiter*

I don't normally read the stuff there as the childish immature "OMGWERAWSUMNESS" type posts give me a major headache. However, it's good to see so many people coming out and suggesting ModTheSims2 instead of TSR.

thing, is, we DID try to help her. But she didn't accept any of it. instead, she went off.
Alas.
BTW: Thanks to all for removing the info...yer good kids. Yup, I know. People were even applauding her for her decision. I also kind of doubt that she was harassed as badly as she claims. She may or may not have received phone calls. I was most certainly not one of them. What I do know is she's screaming that we did terrible things to her... I think. She's kind of hard to understand. Nobody is forcing her to come to this forum and read what's being said. I'm not taking my comments to her site nor would I ever do that. However, if she's going to go flying off the deep end and start screaming "OMFG pirates are evilz and they are threateninginging my lifes!!!11!1!" people here are going to have something to say.

The donation drive was a great success and a nice suprise, and then some moron comes along and decides to put thier 2 cents in and pisses me off. I think that the donation drive was a success speaks volumes. More people care about ModTheSims2 than don't, and those people don't listen to smear campaigns, greedy paysite owners or ignorant whackjobs. We're a bit too intelligent for all that muck.

Now we could pick apart whether or not this means anything, but honestly, this is one of several letters I've seen from EA that says that paysites are illegal. I have not seen one letter where they confirmed paysites are legal and are supported by EA. How about their reply to HP where they took it all back? No they don't say anything about the legality of paysites in that reply but it certainly shows that they haven't decided yet. Did we read the same post? Yes, I've seen the post by HP. As I understood it, they needed to work out some legal details, apparently. They did not give much information, and certainly did not endorse paysites. Nor did they "take it all back". You are grasping at straws again. I will ask one more time, show me one letter from EA that says paysites are legal.

Paden, your post was so bloody hilarious, I pissed my pants. Thank you for that.
As to why we haven't helped her.. err.. why should we? People kind of tried to guide her in the right direction, and she went flying off the deep end. I can honestly say I'm not one of the people that harassed her or called her and I would not do such a thing. However, I'll happily make fun of her here, and if she chooses to read it boo freakin hoo. She's playing in our sandbox now.

"I wanted to let all of you know:
We have had so many phone calls since this forum had put up our personal imformation that we got no sleep do the phone ringing.
We still are getting them so Joe has called the police to come and look at our computer and to look at the link where our personal imformation was. I had copied and pasted it and save it in case we needed it.
Now the police officer went to this forum and read everything that was put there. The police are now going to set up something so people like this will and can not get your personal imformation.
Our phone calls will be going through them from now on. The police have set up something on our computer to read all messages that we get. This was a life threatening thing that they did to us.
My husband is goverment and we have to be careful that the imformation does fall into the wrong hands.
Jan" *Blinks* I have nothing to add except wtf?

You can't say that just because they invite them over, they "absolutely agree" with TSR.
Have you ever thought that the reason EA might invite people who happened to be paysite owners simply because unfortunately, a lot of people visit these sites?
TSR is a "big" site, and a lot of people visit it because they've been doing so since The Sims 1. They also have some free content, so that's another reason why people go there.
Inviting TSR would only help EA in advertising its new EP - it does not mean that EA "absolutely agrees" with TSR, so don't put words in their mouths. Exactly. I think what we are seeing is mainly some serious advertising of the new expansion pack. Just by reading the article at the website, it was pretty easy to see what was going on.

Really? Hmm.. perhaps you need to read Nouk's conversation with an EA representative. I believe that's what this original thread was about. They seemed pretty clear on the matter. But that conversation is looking a bit dubious now. This was just one EA bod replying (probably at support level) and it just doesn't match with TSR rubbing shoulders with EA Corporate at this year's fansite event. EA, in their own article, have named TSR their number 1 fansite. EA would surely not have invited any site that so blatantly seems to violate their EULA, and certainly wouldn't hold them up as a great fansite example unless EA absolutely agrees with what TSR is doing. This fansite event has screwed everything up. Speak up, EA! What is the REAL truth?! I am quicker to believe an actual written achknowledgement that paysites are illegal then some silly fan day event. TSR is using this to say "Oh looky, EA loves us and agrees with our policy!" I don't see that at all. I see a company that is attempting to support it's fan-base, and is doing some serious advertising. A lot of people create for TSR. This seems to be a way of them supporting the creators, and advertising the new and upcoming expansion pack to a large audience. No where does it say they agree or endorse TSR's policy. Still, having TSR listed as their top fan site is misguided and it does make me wonder if they realize how much money TSR is making off of their game. I have a feeling they are pretty misinformed. Thing is if it was just one letter, I might agree that EA has not taken a stand. However, there are many many letters out there from various EA employees saying that paysites are illegal. I've yet to see one that says that they support paysites. I would like to see just one written letter/conversation that says that EA supports paysites. Just one. Otherwise, I'd say at least in my mind, it's still pretty clear. Oh, and thank you, Ry. I'll be back in bed soon and hopefully feeling better.

Well, I got angry and sent a message to EA about it. Linking to TSR is one thing, but actually calling them "our top fansite" is a whole other ball game - to me at least.
And if it's any consolation to Delphy and the rest of the MTS2 crew I did suggest to them that if they really feel they need to have a "top fansite" MTS2 is a much more deserving contender than TSR. I'm sending a letter too. I know it probably won't do much good, but this really pisses me off. They go on and on in their letters that paysites are illegal.. and then endorse the biggest one right on the website. Excuse me, but what the fuck? Well, I'd email them if I could find the email address to send it to. I'm probably missing something obvious, but I'm pretty sick today and a bit out of it.

Paysites are not illegal, they might break the agreement (EULA) but i think it is safe to say that there is an understanding between EA and paysites. Really? Hmm.. perhaps you need to read Nouk's conversation with an EA representative. I believe that's what this original thread was about. They seemed pretty clear on the matter. In case you missed it in the very first post, here it is again. http://www.noukiesims2.net/EAconfirms.gifNow we could pick apart whether or not this means anything, but honestly, this is one of several letters I've seen from EA that says that paysites are illegal. I have not seen one letter where they confirmed paysites are legal and are supported by EA. *Edited because I'm sick and feverish and I keep making dumb-ass typos.
