The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Yahoo webhosting changes to unlimited storage & transfer

I figured there was some fine print, but most sims2 files seem so small compared to the kind of stuff people are typically trying to share these days. Definitely wasn't thinking something as big as, say, MTS2 would be able to pull it off with this offer. But there's always a catch, I guess. For example, I technically have 'unlimited' cable internet connectivity through Time Warner (well, for now), but they always reserve the right to come down on people who are downloading 'excessively'. I dunno. Not emotionally invested either way.

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Yahoo webhosting changes to unlimited storage & transfer

My boyfriend mentioned this to me yesterday because we have a small Yahoo account that is affected by it: http://ycorpblog.com/2008/02/06/introducing-all-you-can-eat-web-hosting/Short version: $12/month, unlimited storage, unlimited data transfer, unlimited email storage, etc. You can see the more specific details here: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/hostingpricing.phpQuote: # Unlimited disk space, which allows you to build as many web pages as you want # Unlimited data transfer, which allows you to support as many visitors as you want # 1,000 business email addresses (such as jimhanks@learn2yoga.com) # Unlimited email storage So anyway, first thing I thought of was Sims 2 sites. Doesn't this pretty much remove 'bandwidth' as an excuse for anyone to charge subscriptions? I would imagine if you really couldn't swing the twelve bucks a month, you would have no problem raising that via donation in about ten minutes if you had worthwhile downloads. Anyway. Not really sure if this is relevant anymore (I guess I haven't really seen the bandwidth argument made lately). Just thought it was interesting; and that there might be some people reading this who would be motivated to put up a free site or two.

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Look at what I made and worship me! (Post Your Creations)

Orange and Yellow textured wallI'm thinking about making a whole set of these textures walls but what do you guys think? I'll make them regardless because I like them for myself but I'd like some feedback on whether I should put them up for download and what needs to be down? Too plain? Yes, please, textured walls. Have been looking for any kind of faux-finishy walls in current 'trendy'/bright colors, but I usually don't have the stamina to dig through four hundred thousand walls on various sites.

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Insimenator needs donations or will be closed in 2 days time

Despite using InSimenator and its various utilities almost constantly during gameplay, I don't know much about the people behind it.
Would you all recommend a donation there? Is the money probably going where they say it is going?
I will hit them for a bit, if so. I use that thing all the damn time, probably more so than any other hack or object I have downloaded.

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Adult-Sims is dead?

I think I'd have preferred being a teen in the 'Emo' years over what I actually got instead, which was the 'really fucking bad-hair 80s' years.

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / SFV

Heh. I play The Sims 2 off and on. This is about the third 'on' cycle for me in a row in which SFV has been down. I always hear about it, but have never even seen what the site looks like.
(Not complaining--I don't even know what's there, so I have nothing to complain about. It's just a funny coincidence. For a given value of 'funny'.)

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Booty on Bittorrent
|
on: 2007 September 03, 16:29:15

Oh, interesting...the person who created the torrent included this link in the comments section on mininova, a link to their blog which lists all the contents of the torrent and has some other notes about it. http://silverssimstuff.wordpress.com/2007/08/20/torrent/It's not exactly exhaustive, but it's cool they went to the trouble. Ha, their avatar is wearing a hair I created back before we knew how to extract meshes. (Mods...I don't know if maybe linking the person's blog here is pushing their anonymity luck. They included the link in the comments section of the torrent itself, so it's already visible from mininova (a huge torrent site). Judgement call?)

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Booty on Bittorrent

Or, some of it. http://www.mininova.org/tor/847392From the torrent-poster's blurb: Don't want to give your money to TSR? Here is a selection of pay-only The Sims 2 content for free! Includes custom content from thesimsresource.com, birgit, holysimoly, rose sims2 and peggy sims2. 100% legal: EA has given users full rights to distribute ALL user-made custom content without permission! Thanks EA! All files that crashed my game were removed, and all have been virus checked. Important: If you are a member of TSR they may check the IPs of downloaders and compare them to their members. You do risk your account being locked, so be careful! Please keep this seeding! Thanks Sounds like a local. And no, I totally wasn't looking on bittorrent for an early release of BV. Why would you say that? (P.S...this torrent's been up for about two weeks, which coincides with the time I've been away from the forums due to dead computers and the getting of a real job. Sorry if it's been discussed--I did look around and try a few searches first.)

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / CHEEZSERVER MAXES OUT!
|
on: 2007 August 12, 16:31:19

I'm definitely willing to donate to the cause, but I'd also love to see the various fora broken out to their own servers/connections. I'd rather have fast forum speeds and just let the booty download in the background whenever.
Obviously both would be nice. Hence willing to donate. Just saying where my priorities lie. (Slow forums = more soul-killing than slow downloads.)

The Pirate Ship / ARR! / New Information, Very Interesting
|
on: 2007 August 03, 20:51:59

If this is legit, why even mention it on her site? Well, she mentioned the 'deal' she had made with the 'university' that if anyone 'stole' her stuff she'd switch to working for them exclusively. i.e., the point of mentioning it appeared to be so she had a platform to bitch and blame her toy-taking-away on a third party. I don't know, though. Still a noob here.

but made a deal upon reconstruction of Simphany that once any of its content was housed on another site, without my permission, I'd make any and all Member Downloads that were current at the time available to the public, and from then on devote new meshes to the University site and forums. I'm still a noob to a lot of these goings-on, but this sounds to me like just another form of "I'm taking toys and leaving". The 'University' story is a real head-scratcher. Possibly code for "TSR under a new creator name"?
