1  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Habitat43 News! Sharing Information! on: 2008 September 18, 15:12:51
It was a *community* effort at JuniperSun to try and recreate the themes of BRR for TS2, then in the middle of it all Brigit decided to announce she was going to make a bed part of a payset on her site.  I'm not clear if other people provided the textures to her or if she ripped them from some of Cole's TS1 items and tweaked them for 3d texturing, but I don't think that really mattered.  What mattered most, IMO, is it was a JP community project that was entirely in the spirit of open free sharing.  The secondary issue (and perhaps less whiney and so expressed more often), paysite opinions aside, is that she did not get clear permission from Cole to SELL the derivative work - only recreate.  Her responses are wretched, as she feigns innocence, ignorance, and appologies, then gets ballsy and basically says "I'll do what I want, I read Cole's reply as permission, even though I didn't mention money.  Gimme."  If I remember correctly she threw in a bit of the "PS, if this backfires, I'll pull the language barrier card and keep charging anyway" as well.

This post was brought to you by the "I needed to bitch about something" company, producers of such hits as "Everyone's already said everything about paypal data sharing" and "TSR would be a tl;dr".

(snip.. Victoria Fortunes BS stolen texture sloppy second rate GRR)

 Huh

PERFECT.  Doesn't parts of the shine on those, and these:

look awfully effin familiar.  I think she does it on purpose now, just because she knows the TSR mods won't remove them even after I point out pixel for pixel cropping.  I'm PMSing today.. sigh.  I feel like that simified model looks.... some ice cream should fix that though Cheesy

Those are insane bandwidth counts.  I have the urge to recommend you keep the original plans and instead teach people how to not get sucked into an image-hit black hole, lol.

Lunaris - it looks amazing Smiley

Now if we could only switch out the villain career costume for that one ::ponder::

I think yall should see about becoming editors for sims2wiki.info, and expanded off their hair gallery with this palindromes project.  While it wouldn't be the same thing as the hair gallery exactly, it would be in a similar vein; visual indication of fine free content over similar pay content.

Dilandau looks all kinds of awesome!  Mmmmmm that HAIR.  I can't wait to see the full presentation.  The first thing I hope to do with him is get his comfort/social/fun down super low so he goes crazy, and watch him wax between yelling and flapping his lips, teasing/pranking others, and trying to play punch you punch me with everyone.

Akane - those bathing suits rock, I especially love the black and red/white ones Smiley

The *only* critique I can think of is to make his nose longer - but I haven't see a complete side angle - and his cheeks more gaunt or not as high perhaps.

Pleeeeeeeease tell me you'll make a female version too?  ::bounce::  Escaflowne is a favourite manga, film and series of mine.

The fangirl is rising in me.. but I don't suppose you've thought about doing other characters.. like say...Naria and Eriya.. or Gadeth (film version, with that hot freakin midriff vest, and all the throwing knives).

Quote from: "Dark Lunaris"
It's Dilandau Albatou from Tenkuu no Escaflowne. XD

I've only done the face... I'm doing a hairmesh and need to mesh his outfit.
It's really difficult getting 2D characters to look right in 3D without removing too much detail. I spent ages adjusting his face via MS3D.. bodyshop alone would not cut it at all....

I think it will look more accurate with his hair.

I'm working on hair now. I'm curious now about how he'll look with the right hair.

google about the shadow/highlight tool under image->adjustment, too.

Well.. after watching desperate housewives, I've breathed a little ::smirk::

I'm thinking that my error can't be related to this secuROM stuff... because I don't have sims2deluxe or pet stories, nor BV or H&M, or OFB, heh.  Just the 2006 version of TS2 holiday edition (core game + holiday fun stuff), university, and nightlife.. all of which apparently come with the safedisk copy protection.

Looking through regcleaner, I *do* have secuROM installed, but it has a mod date of 2005, and I installed TS2 in 2006.

I.. dunno.  Maybe it was the yesterday's java update, but I don't see how that would effect ts2.  Sad

Thanks all for the help/links.. I'll search for a nightlight no-cd crack and see what happens I guess.

Ren

Edit: doing this rather than another post-reply... partially to spare myself some minor embarassment due to the likelihood it won't be seen, and also because I hate to cause a necro back-pedal.

One of my thumbnail files, or groups.cache, were corrupted.

I'm.. exasperated.  I don't have HM or BV.  I have the sims 2 holiday edition, uni and NL... and yet today, suddenly, every time I try to run the sims the splash comes up, sims2ep2.exe is added to running processes, and then a few seconds later poof.  Splash is gone, back to desktop, sims2ep2.exe is no longer running.

What the hell.  I've tried several uninstall/reinstalls etc etc, and currently have nero uninstalled since it was on the "list" of programs securom doesn't like.

Fucking stardock murdered my system's standard CDROM/CDRW already, I'm really tired of these damn piracy protection programs BREAKING legit shit.

So.. where can I get this no-CD crack or whatnot, and actually run the game?  I've been cooking all damn day in prep for thanksgiving tomorrow, I really didn't need this annoyance.

mmm...coconut... guess what I *must* have for breakfast now, lol.

Thanks everyone for the supportive comments... I'm positive this change isn't an innovation on my part, but I'd sure feel a bit of pride if some other paysites followed suit.

I came to announce this myself, and find this ::blush::

I'm glad about coming to a decision on it too.  I'd been trying to think of something that would satisfy me, donators, and those who can't donate, ever since I previewed the circonflex skintones.  So, this way I can still offer something tangible to those who donate, but not request a burden of exclusivity.

snugglemark.. lol

ps - I totally fail at posting.  For some reason, my first attempt tried to be a new topic... good thing I didn't put in a subject.  Lets hope take2 posts as a reply, bleh.
13  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / O GOD O GOD!!! Some pirate wisdome please!!! on: 2007 June 20, 15:57:49
K maybe my post wasn't detailed enough, because its point was missed.

Any commercial net via a simsite, no matter how it is obtained, is what is illegal by EA's EULA.  If a website has a donation button with no strings attached, or a payment button in direct/obvious exchange for an item -- if the website is making a commercial profit, they are achieving it with EA's product as the vehicle.

If Holy Simoly, or any site, has record that monies obtained via the website have only been put toward costs, and not for any other purposes, then they are not breaking the EULA.

As a user of bodyshop and/or homecrafter they are permitted distribution, and have the basic right themselves to offer a package discriminately.  They cannot impose others to be discriminate however, in particular those who have received the package (ie Yunalesca, as others have stated, they can't shut you down).

So.. PMBD = Perfectly legal, no new news there.  The server doesn't even need to be in Malaysia.  Holy Simoly = not sure, dunno if they've turned commercial profit, that's EA's business to find out.

Hope that clears my post up... and now I'll go back to light hearted threads, heh.

I'm just going to peep in quietly with a small comment, because I try to keep out of the throws.  What is illegal is to have commercial net.  If Holy Simoly keeps proper records that show income and costs, and funds are soley used to maintain the website, then they are in the clear.  That is, in the clear to *offer* product as gift exchange anyway, not control it's travel thereafter by rights.

Thanks all for the compliments   I hope to have time to git-r-dun and uploaded soon.

To answer a few questions... I've considered against doing contacts/masks for the most part, because I have so much stuff in that whole section already.  If I ever get pets I might make some for werewolves though, because maxis is stupid and didn't seperate eyes from skin apparently.

These eyes are whiter than most out there.. they don't have black blobbies at the top, and so therefor lack a nice "shadow" when looking straight ahead.  If you've tried my confutatis (hate that word now and I bet everyone else does too lol) schlera mask then you know what to expect.

And speaking of which, I made a schlera template PSD (like KSK's) for the eye-making challenged.  It's on my forums under "Testing grounds + goodies".  It could be a nice partner to ricket's brushes.
