You've obviously never had a mother and her cub anywhere near you. Worse than mating season. Worse than hippos.

Well, no, of course I haven't. I know better. Sheesh. :p

They look very similar but have very different eating habits.

Except for the big white ones. And you have to watch out for them in mating season. Don't get in their way.

Verrrrrrry nasty if you do. *shudders*

Yes, one of those.

And that's just a baby.

Sure, mate.

Yeah. Australian.

I'm with you Beth.
I really hate it when people I don't know call me love and other such things. I had a lot of trouble when I first came to UK, I used to flinch a lot, now I just try and pretend I didn't hear it.
I can be pretty anti-social at times so people taking liberties like that really shits me.

My problem is I'm so pathetic that when someone calls me love I take it seriously and when I realise that I'm not their love at all, I just want to go and throw myself out a...

Nah. I can't even finish that statement with a straight face. Carry on. Wink

Its like Polar bears, people love them remember the ones in the Coco cola Ads, they look so benovolent. They are very dangerous.

Here we use polar bears to sell Bundy rum and warn Swedish tourists about the egrarious and definitely dangerous Australian Drop Bear.

Even if it was true that the staff had been "paid", it's no-one's business. It is not against the EA tos to pay someone for their time on a personal forum. Even non-profit, non business organisations can renumerate their staff.

Unfounded gossip just shytes me.

and call them cute names like doll or babes. i think its funny.

The only time I've had a regular call other people pet names on a game forum I moderated for years (in this case, it was "dear"), it turned out the person was a 25-27 year-old guy masquerading as a 18 year-old girl for the purposes of, er, "roleplaying" a husband/wife relationship with a 15-17 year-old boy (because it happened over the course of 2 years before we worked out what was going on), including the whole private IRL-type cybersex shebang (not at the forum, we have a private adults-only for that sort of roleplay). Needless to say, the boy was rather messed up by the whole thing (he was young & silly enough to "fall" for the bastard for real).

So, I'm always really creeped out when someone I don't know online calls me anything pet-ish.

Oh, and here is my "Pant-tee pic"

That'd be ex-husband. Yup, he taught me a lot. Wink

lol, would that be the reason behind the "ex"? ^^^^^

Nope.

Never one for large annoying sigs, me, but I do have one comment:  I've found a substantially large number of the free sites I know of through small sig links in downloads.

First thing I do if I like a download is have a look at their MTS2 profile to see if that person has anything else there, second is to look in their sig to see if they have a site.

Or have I misunderstood - are you banning all links in sigs or just paysite ones?

Don't worry, I'm sure she'll choke on her words in the end.

...I can't believe I just wrote that. Bad, bad brain.

Only from a Scot... :p

(Sorry, Scots heritage. I take liberties. Smiley)

Funny that you guys mentioned dreams. I had the weirdest dream last night that involved Reno, some turtles, a gecko (I have them in my house), Michael Jackson and a can of shaving cream.

No, not what you're thinking. It was awful *shudders* I don't like my brain, but I suspect it was this thread that caused it.

Her counter-argument (after sulking) was that these deals were made with the publisher, not the author (usually true) and the fee is not identical to the money the author would get for selling books to all those readers.

Now I'm eating carpet... cos, of course, publishers, like, don't sign contracts with authors or nuthin' covering these things... and agents do know what to look for...

But then, she's probably anti-agent, too, because agents get a full 15% of the approx $1.19 or so per book sold that authors receive for all of the work they do trying to sell the stuff in the first place.

Thankyou LesserOr. Had my belly laugh for the day. 'Tis good medicine. Cheesy

Tangentially, this reminded me of a girl I knew in college who was always talking about how she was going to be an Author.
Because of this (Huh) she was mortally offended by the fact that libraries stocked fiction.

She thought it was criminal that the library allowed people to steal money out of Author's pockets by letting so many people read books for free.

That is so funny - I'm going to use that somewhere.  As long as you don't get offended.

  That is funny.

It's also not true. The girl was seriously misinformed -- people can read from libraries for free, but the libraries pay licensing fees to be libraries, usually to a copyright council or some such organisation, who then uses those fees to pay the publishers of those books for their use. The publishers than add a proportionate amount to their author royalties, usually on an annual basis.

God, I hope not. All I remember is that it was some kind of horrible "Great American Novel" thing (with male prostitutes! I remember that part!) and she was convinced it was going to make her rich.

Hoookay, now I just snorted coffee out my nose. Writing as a way to make you rich. Gods, oh, gods, my great aunt Laura, don't I just wish. It's people like that who make editors tired. It's people like this who submit crappy first drafts written in crayon with a cover letter that states, "Plz read mi books. My moms just loves it and my frends do too."

Quote from: "Pescado"
I take it she never became an author, on account of being a complete MORON, because how many real authors do you hear of objecting to libraries?

No objections here.  Cheesy

And now that I've read the rest of the thread...

Delphy (and others), I believe someone can actually be anti-filesharing and still pro the booty.

I've downloaded stuff from the booty, and I am avidly not pro-filesharing. Sounds like a contradiction, I suppose.

Not really, if you think of it in legal & logical terms.

Everyone (including Paysites) made an agreement when they installed the game to make any custom content free, for the benefit of the community. Paysites aren't making the content free to the community.

Now, EA gave everyone who bought and paid for the game the right to the content created using their code. EA-given user rights over-rules paysite "tos", and you are not denying anyone their legal monetary dues by sharing the booty files, as the legal right is owned by EA and they have already given people redactive permission to access any and all of those files. In fact, as the files were bought from those sites in the first place, they've actually still made money they weren't entitled to.

OTOH, I would unequivocably not advocate hacked programmes, warez, music, etc. (except under "fair use", by which I don't mean copying stuff and reselling it), because the sharers of those files have no right to share them, and they are denying the legal rights of the legal owners of that IP to make their income as they see fit from their own property.

I hope that makes sense.
