91  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Electronic Arts Lowers 2009 Forecast, Will Cut Jobs on: 2008 November 01, 23:38:00
actually that hadn't occurred to me, but of course that would be part of someone's buying decision when they don't have large amounts of cash to spread around..

By the way, EA screaming "one million sold" of Spore was a bit of hogwash.. what it was was more like 400,000 on PC and the rest made up from platforms like mobile and DS.. which don't cost as much. Wink And considering The Witcher's sold a million and Sins of the Solar Empire sold at least half a million by now, it's hardly the mega-hit they hoped for.

This is why it is important to not only NOT buy SecuROM, but to stigmatize and ridicule anyone who DOES! Just as people who actually respond to spam are as much The Enemy, if not more so, than the spammers themselves, PEOPLE WHO BUY SECUROM ARE THE BIGGEST PART OF THE PROBLEM. They must be scorned, mocked, and ridiculed!

That approach has been picking up speed since Spore got released.. I noticed a change of attitude among the posts I saw, and it was a lot more common for the posters on the big forums to understand the issues involved, and understand them really well.. Which is why EA didn't really get away with the nonsense of increasing the activations from three to five, people KNEW it was a token gesture.

I actually think it should be here too.. it would rock to have it either right here, or under a subdomain like tsr.mustbedestroyed (Pescado, I know how you like your "must be destroyed" tag) because this IS a partisan discussion so they're either going to read this material or not and beleive it or not and there's no half way.

guys, some additional news (found by CraigDolphin on the Prism) it looks like there's going to be a MassEffect lawsuit rolling into the original Spore lawsuit..

and it has been confirmed, the second lawsuit at this stage only covers the US (the first lawsuit is worldwide).. I've had it confirmed by Writin Reg who's in phone contact with the lawyers.

I think you have had a bit of chaos there lady.

Girard Gibbs lawfirm wants to make an investigation to Spore which will be US only.

Kamber Edelson lawfirm, the one who started the Global lawsuit, will start another global one in Mass Effect.

Nightmare, what chaos? What you said was exactly what I said, just restated. You sound like you were reading half the thread and taking the information out of context.

Girard Gibbs lawsuit potentially involves all games but only in the US, Kamber Edelson's original lawsuit covers spore but worldwide. Kamber Edelson are NOW involved in a third lawsuit, filed after Girard Gibbs announced their investigation which covers Mass Effect.

And Craig has it all broken down on the front page of RYG, which Requip has just linked.

I think this was slightly what I was worried about..  Undecided Hard discussions like this always result in some kind of damage.. it's hard, we treasure the people we do get back from the dark side (Iced Mango, for example) and we worry about them knowing we love them.. Cala, I know you know I don't feel that way.. after we talked I got exactly what you were talking about...

The big thing would be after a decent enough period to let things heal up a bit, we refocus on the main enemies in this whole thing, TSR.. just imho..

maybe when Aikea starts feeling a bit more comfortable they can come back, and see it's just because people feel understandeably vulnerable about their personal details and maybe just say something simple about being sorry it happened or something and reiterating she just didn't remember?

Thanks mate.. I missed that one. I thought I'd read all of the Coconut blog.

I dunno.. I've done stuff I regret in my life, and I know that, so on a personal level, I don't hold it against Aikea. I'm not suggesting we sweep this under the rug, but maybe once we get this sorted we don't recycle it like three week old socks?

Hi Guys

I'm confused.. I don't see Aikea or Gedya (sorry sp, it's late and I've just gotten home from work) knew about this.. I just revisited the Coconut blog to check..

I thought we'd already had this discussion with A and G and they admitted that they may have known about it and just forgotten? I've known about a truckload of stuff in my time, and I've seen those monolithic big sites in action up close.. As they've already said they don't feel that way anymore, shouldn't we just move on from the discussion? I mean, I wouldn't have a go at Sherry either, she's changed her mind about how she feels about stuff like that..

I'm slightly worried that if that happens, they'll pull out of pc games totally.. but honestly if it happens, so be it.. someone else will step in to fill the void.

Wink Dani, it's a pleasure to see you..

I knew a woman called Intoxicating Chocolate or Nubian Doll, and I kinda wish she was still around the community like you are. Nubian Doll did what you did, she stuck it to some paysite owners good and proper, unfortunately she was doing it at a stage where the community wasn't ready. This Russian paysite owner screamed at her for using her stuff in screenshots without permission, so Deb turned round and recoloured her meshes and shared them freely.. the paysite owner went purple *chuckle*

Unfortunately, she was doing it before it was mainstream, so after a frustrating year or so, she eventually dissapeared.

Unless they've specifically banned mentioning it on their website, they'd be a bit strange if they had a go at you about it.. All you're doing is encouraging gamers to seek redress.
105  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: EA has been SUED ARR! on: 2008 October 04, 21:46:40
this will throw you guys.. but Blackgarden for one has been quite outspoken on the DRM issue.. she's posted on the BBS against it, and I've seen her on the Spore site too.. so on this issue, I don't think they're monolithically pro EA..

It's the same as, I've had supportive messages from some of the SM's on this issue (I'm not naming names)
