16  The Pirate Ship / ARR! / Re: Insim under new management! on: 2008 November 29, 22:18:00

Second, it's disgusting K&E have probably been making a profit on all this, scamming everyone.... But notice, not many people are surprised since they acted so shady *at the time* even - Not telling people how much more they needed, not taking down the drive post for quite a while (if ever? I barely visit), etc. I do feel sorry for all the people who sunk lots of time and effort into keeping the site running. That really sucks for you guys. Sad

This is what pisses me off, that they would scam so many people.  I never donated to Insim because their begging seemed so fishy to me, and their user base so young and vulnerable to having the wool pulled over their eyes.  Then they'd disappear again, only to return several months later to pull the same trick or treat routine, once even holding the damn object over people's heads.  Rude.

I know the admins and mods did their jobs to keep the forums running the smooth way it appears to have done, and I applaud them.  It's not their fault the owners were a couple of asshats.

I was going to get lunch, exactly 30 minutes ago, walking rather slowly since I am nursing a hangover from hell. And outside an electronics store, a child was screaming something unintelligable while the father, who was alone, and was trying to "reason" with him. Look, I don't have kids, but I know from my own upbrining what works.

What works on one kid won't work on another, though.  I could've been that father (except that I'm a woman, and I actually have no kids). I used to take care of my friend's autistic son for her while she worked.  That was my full time job, along with taking care of my home.  Most of the time he was fine, but there were errands I -had- to do.  If he had a meltdown in the grocery store, the fastest way to calm him down was to talk soothingly to him.  I may've looked like an idiot to everyone else in the world, and maybe even like I was bribing him to calm down, but for HIM, I was doing the absolute best thing possible, the fastest way possible.  These aren't purposeful tantrums, mind you, these are meltdowns that once he starts to go into, he can't help.

Anyways, one kid, anecdotal evidence, blah blah.  It makes me more sympathetic to parents with screaming kids (unless I see them bribing the little shits), and hell, even with "normal" kids, what works with one kid won't necessarily work with the other.   The merest threat of a spanking would put me in line real fast, while my brother didn't care about that - he didn't want to lose his Atari 2600.

I have found the perfect insult that does not insult anything else - turd.  It doesn't insult bottomfeeders, hyenas, jackals, wolves, bovines or anything else.

But.. everybody poops!

Again the same thing is true the other way around
a creator doesn't owe you any of its work.
And you didn't answer the question we need to pay for the game to you know. The point is not that you have to give me money, it's why am i evil if i don't give you something?

Untrue.  You do not "need" to buy the game.  You "choose" to buy the game.  There is a large difference there.  Your grammar is a little off, so English may not be your first language so forgive me if it is a matter of translation rather than semantics.

The reason there is the Booty, is that for the longest time people would cry that they needed to be a paysite because of their bandwidth bills.  So these fine folks (ignore their tempers) go out, purchase the files (they pay for every single one, no stealing!) and save you the bandwidth by uploading them to this site, with full credit given.  You won't find one single thing in the Booty that is misrepresented.  (Unless it was done so by the original, credited creator.)

When more and more paysites started finding out about the Booty, they got mad.  It turns out that it WASN'T the bandwidth they needed.  The argument turned from "We need it to pay bandwidth!" to "But, as a creator, it's my right to charge".  You see the difference there?

There really isn't any point in either side getting heated up anymore.  The issue is out there, more and more forums aren't blocking the PMBD website.  You will either follow the contract you agreed to, or you won't.

Oh, so it's shut up unless you agree we're playing here?  :?

Actually, it appears to be "We'll debate with you as long as you quit making the same bloody argument over and over and over and over and over until our eyes bleed at the sight of your log-in."

You've said your piece. They've said theirs.  You aren't going to change their minds.  They obviously aren't going to change yours.  So now, what is the point of you continuously stating the same things over and over?  Are you attempting to speed up your typing skills?  Do you secretly have a crush on Calalilly and just get chills when she responds to you?

He slammed everyone. I found it very funny. If you can't laugh at yourself once in a while, then who can you laugh at?

Everyone else. Duh.  Cheesy

Um, just checked the Yahoo groups TOS, and found this:

She obviously doesn't care about any ol' TOS or EULA.

Personally, I'm getting sick and tired of hearing "but but but.. the community!"

The community will be FINE.  Some will leave.  They will leave because they are mad that they can no longer sell their stuff, they will leave because something happens in their life and they no longer have time for TS2, they will leave because they lose interest.  New people will show up.  Someone else will hone their talent.

People have been coming and going from this "community" for years.  For every well-known mod or admin on a well-known site, there are hundreds or thousands of people who don't bloody post.

I think people are losing sight of the fact that this is a GAME.  It's supposed to be FUN.  If you're not enjoying it, or enjoying creating for it, then why in the bloody hell are you still doing it? For the internet fame? The money can't honestly be THAT good that you couldn't get a job doing something similar (and honest, even!) for a true paycheck.

Gah.

I have one response for that whole blahblahblah:

Why am I responsible for your self esteem, whiny mcwhinerpants?

Personally, I think if it is done right (although it looks like it won't be) it'd be interesting.  Backstory on the Goths would be nice. Maybe even the Newbies and such.

Uhm. Did anyone point out the thread where Lynn, one of the adminstrators, left because of "Those people" ?  She wasn't enjoying the game, and since she'd been a mod for a few years, it was bound to happen that she'd get worn out on it, but "we all know what the last drop" was.

I like the dress.  I don't have crossdressing males, so I wouldn't use it, but I think it's a bang-up job.
