Title: Just to cover bandwidth, eh?
Post by: Captain Berg on 2007 April 28, 15:39:41
I don't know if anything like this have been brought up before, feel feel to slap me around a bit if that's the case, but this just made my slightly intoxicated blood boil

I have a site with a guestbook thingie that uses google ads. Oh, OK, I never thought about it too much, until now, when the ads obviously have realised that it's a sim site that I have:

Those bastards make enough money on their sucky-ass-sucky shitpiles of downloads to BUY google ad space?

Seriously!

And they're in MY guestbook, on MY site!  :x

I don't know if I should just take the guestbook down and find another one that doesn't use google ads. Too bad, becuse those 60-something entries stroke my ego so nicely...

Edited some grammar errors/typos. See if you can find the rest

Poor Berg...

No, seriously. That is... I'm tempted to say whack, but that word is largely unnatural to me... So... I lack a word.

The google adspace deal is easy to get into, and doesn't cost that much for a posting like that. In fact, (if memory serves...I could go look on the site but I'm too lazy), you only pay based on hits.

I'm just sorry that you got an ad with such a crappy site.

Oh but I heard you could block particular ads?

Teadrinker: Really? It sounds too good to be true, but I haven't looked it up. But it's not ME being part of Google Adsense or whateveritscalled, really, it's the site where I got the guestbook and I don't think they'd give a rat's ass about which ads I want or not ;) No, it's gotta go.

Will you all spam my new guestbook?  :P

Hebucus:
I just checked it up briefly and you're correct, it seems you can adjust the costs to what you think you can afford.

Hmm, interesting. So if they pay by hits...wouldn't it hurt more if we pummel them with hits? Isn't it therefore a *GOOD* thing to let them advertise it, particularly if you link to PMBD at the same time, thus insuring that any clickers are "empty" and provide ad hits they have to pay for while generating no revenue?

How did my name get onto that?  I have never used a guest book

If we clicked the hell out of the adverts, not only would google detect the same IPs are doing it, but it is the site which has allowed google to advertise on their site, who get the money.

So basicly we would be wasting our time giveing the guest book site money.

Great idea! We won't make them bankrupt unfortunately (you obviously set a maximum limit for your monthly budget) but we can make sure that their advertising money go right down the drain (where their downloads also happen to come from).

To bad I just got temporarily banned from my own guestbook for refreshing it too often (tried to see what more evilz it would come up with)  :P

Berg, A-free-guestbook.com doesn't have adspace.  I use it and it's really great.

I changed my name.  Seems there are one too many Teadrinkers in the community.  I even found someone posting as teadrinker in the latest EA chat transcript.

Give me a break Quorneat (whatever that means). You use the identical name and signature by accident? Of someone who just happens to be very well known in the Sims community?

Not buying it.

As for this dastardly news, it's dastardly news!!

Glad you got a new guestbook hun, I'll come and spam it if ya like!

Anyhow. This is old news. This started showing up at a forum I went to. We started it about 2 months ago. I brought it up there but it was quickly forgotten.

ETA: Saffy they had plenty of ads over at the new forum.

Quorn's sort of okayish when you want to make a dish that should have had chicken in it...   Sometimes I regret being a vegetarian, specially when neighbours are having a BBQ

I was so disappointed to find out that Quorn was fungus, not some kind of alien :(

I can't for my life notice the difference between minced quorn and the real thing in bolognese, lasagna, tacos etc. Bu it's a hellot more expensive.

Last night I asked a German guy what "cake" was in German and he said "kacke" which I think means something obscene.  :x HOW RUDE EH.

But then later he told me it's "kachen" or something like that.

Title: Just to cover bandwidth, eh?
Post by: MizzKitty on 2007 April 28, 21:44:10
Isn't it Kuche? Been a while, my German is a bit rusty...

Kuchen, says babelfish. Sorry, it was late lastnight so I can't remember.

Kacke means shits. HOW RUDE.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/german/lj/cafe/index.shtml says it's "Kuchen."

I love German. All I can say is, "Hallo Liebchen!" (Hello, sweetheart!) "Ich komme aus Kanada" (I come from Canada) "Ich bin hot" (I am hot.)

Of course whenever I go into German chat rooms all they ask me is for "cp" (computer sex)  :( "Private melden chatten." And "telefonsex" :(

Title: Just to cover bandwidth, eh?
Post by: Tchannie on 2007 April 28, 22:49:37
lol German chatsex. I find this funnier because I've just been watching 'Allo 'Allo. ^^^^^

I can tell the difference between quorn and meat. It DOESN'T TASTE LIKE MEAT! However, if the two are mixed together I can't tell.

What's 'Allo 'Allo? I think I want to see this. :D

It's a British comedy from the early 80s that had about 9 seasons. It's hilarious! It's set in France during WWII, and it has all these people talking in English with French accents, then there are the Germans who are all insane and speak weird French, the Brits who speak terribly RP and don't understand a word of French, and this British policeman who was only sent there because he speaks French (really REALLY crap French. "Good moaning!"). Combine this with a fat main character who owns a pub with an older wife who has waitresses crushing on him (he has affairs with all of them), a gay German soldier who keeps singing "I'm mad about the boy!" to him, a lady from the French Resistance who keeps saying, "Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once!" and his oblivious wife...it's HILARIOUS.
(I love the German soldier, Geering, who can't be bothered to salute Hitler, so he just goes, "Tler!" rather than say the whole phrase.)

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0086659/

Germany is the only country that doesn't show it, but this year they're seeing if they may show it.

I love german, it's perfect for yelling stuff.

ICH BIN GEIL, for example. Though I'm not sure you'd want to yell that, it might have weird consecuences.

Post by: Electricstatic on 2007 April 28, 23:52:43
Omg I want to see that. I've been quoting "I'M MAD ABOUT THE BOY!" in my head and waiting for a chance to yell it. BITTORENT HERE I COME.

ETA: What does that mean, pixelated? I just learned how to say, "Mehr Vodka bitte!" (More vodka please!)

As I remember it, "I'm horny". Me and the german who was teaching me these invaluable phrases were drunk though, so can't be 100% sure.

yep I'm horny is correct LOL  Man is that so funny.  Also there's this really great song called Geile Zeit by Juli, but there it's slang for like cool, so a cool time :P  but interesting how it means both horny and cool :P

It's brilliant in so many ways! Gramps up there should watch it. It may fuel his sarcasm intake.

*sings* "Mad about the boy..."

Ditto and I only know then to 12. I also do know

kann ich kleine Gelt haben Bitte. (Can I have small change please)

and

Ich benötige ein Dutzend (I need a dozen)

I also know a small amount of words but add them into English when I am talking to our German friends. Like Feuchtigkeit (humidity), because we have a lot of that where I am. LOL

Maybe I need to go to a German sex chat, seems Electricstatic and pixelated are learnign much more interesting phrases than I am in my German book.

Post by: Electricstatic on 2007 April 29, 15:08:32
The sad thing is, it's not even supposed to be a sex chat.   It's on the ICQ website chats, under #german or sometimes #chatroom_german.

I don't even know German numbers, I just pick up random things from translators, my German friends, and this (http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/german/lj/) website. :)

I need to figure out why my speakers aren't working and go and watch that show! Goddamn I'm never going to get any work done on my papers for school.
