Title: Are you sure?
Post by: Nina on 2007 March 20, 22:23:41
(I have no idea how to delete posts so... lets just show how silly I am. lol)

Dude, I found my way here this afternoon thru' a LJ profile. I was stunned  and angry but then... I saw... peggy, rose, etc... all the snob's donation hairs and stuff, etc. and I started to download. Oh I downloaded. Oh the snobs and their paypal buttons. Hahahaha. But I'm a simple person. Are you sure this is right? They DO hard work and all that... I mean, some of them are amazing even they are snobs. I feel a little bad you know... but I'm also poor and a bit evil. lol.

In my opinion, creators don't have the right to be making money off objects for the game, no matter whether they claim it goes toward hosting or whatever.  EA owns the game, period.

I make skins, makeup and recolors for use in my own game, because I don't feel I'm talented enough to really take up space on the web sharing files with others.  But if I did share, it would darn well be on a free site, because I make stuff for love of The Sims, not for my own profit.

And yes, sin like you mean it!  :D

Have you looked through this phorum? They are a lot of posts which will answer those questions, and the thread 'Why do people hate paysites? (http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=30984)' at Sims2Community will answer all of them (its verrryy long though).

...snobs?! Where I come from thats a term for an upper class, rich person - I dont see the connection with paysites   Mehhh

Well, I'll read it.  :) I don't think I need much more to be sure what I think about this all.

And yeah, snobs. I didn't find a better word for it anyway. I guess you could call them preps if this was high school.

Well in that case your orignal question should be answered :)

Well, I've read few pages already... it makes sense, it really does. But one final thought popped into my mind. If you don't like paysites... why go there? I have no idea myself since I go and then whine how the items I WANT are not free. I guess this isn't like "I don't like google, I don't use google" thing. I'm also worried if this is harassing! I mean, what if they cry and stuff...

Now someone will slap me for not being a good pirate.

Nope, not all. A lot of them steal poser meshes, example here (http://forums.sims2community.com/showpost.php?p=770352&postcount=1935). Peggy does it, so does Rose, and other pay 'creators'. They give absolutely no credit to the original creator

This too has been discussed many times in the thread at S2C, but just to summarise: look at TSR - the people who pay for that stuff usually don't know that it is against the EULA agreement, illegal and you can get better for free; so if we didnt make a big kick & fuss about paysites, those people would just stay there blissfully unaware.

There are loads more reasons, read the S2C thread (from about half way through it gets good)

And..

yeah, there's a lot of crap on paysites - but there ARE some good designers on paysites too, and frankly, what works for me may not work for you. For instance, I really like Vita and Reflex, but I know not everyone does.

I think the bottom line is that ALL of theSims custom content should be free, and so we make sure that it is (as much as is worthy, anyway...we kinda drew the line with Carla Niven since her stuff is utter crap. I can show you the cranberry jelly dress in action if you need proof).

Glad you're aboard...and all your qualms have been answered. Enjoy your piracy!

Thats pretty funny that they can't have their stuff removed from the exchange. I guess that why they always go "DON'T UP LOAD MY STUFF TO THE EXCHANGE OR YEW GONE DIEEEE!!11!!1!1!1" Anyway you wouldn't happen to know why EA hasn't done anything about it would you?

Title: Are you sure?
Post by: Lisa on 2007 March 21, 20:16:28
I can answer that one. EA doesn't care what keeps the fans interest. Or who may be profiting from it. As long as it isn't hurting EA. Whatever sells expansions and stuff packs suits them just fine.

Start offering stuff-pack content on your site and I bet they notice real fast.

Been there, done that...

(Not me personally, but y'know...)
