Title: Photoshop shopped!
Post by: Millie on 2008 September 24, 19:31:43
As promised, here is our comparison thread - what the creators SAY it looks like, and what it actually looks like, in game.

Now, I have a decent graphics card that runs large lots smoothly, shows fish in ponds, reflections on water, that kind of thing, so what I am about to show you, isn't because I've got a crappy system.

This first one, isn't as bad as I seem to remember it. Either it's been updated, or my memory sucks, because it does now join at the corners. Meh. I know there are others that don't, and I will get to those in due time  ;)

So, here we go. Spot the difference  ;)

Note at the right hand side of the counter the end of the counter goes into the counter itself. Now, this isn't glaringly obvious if you put the stove there (as they have) but to combat this you would have to use the snapobjectstogrid cheat. The animations work on the dishwasher/trashcompactor, but the bag pokes out of the bottom.

Also worth noting is that I have a lighting mod in game. With the standard maxis lighting in use, this set looks even worse. The round vases, have square shadows.

The rug, unbelievably, is the same rug.

And here is a recolour.

Scrummy, eh?

So, whilst not TRULY fugly, it is nowhere near what they show you on the site.

Wow, I can't believe they don't feel guilty about selling that crap to innocent, paying customers.
False advertisement much?    :-\

This thread is a great idea for those who are thinking about purchasing CC.

I'd share, but I don't have any sets.
Thanks, though!

Eww. That looks tremendously horrid. You'd think that if they spent that much time photoshopping, editing, and hiding all the imperfections of their creations, that they could put that much time into making them look better.

Not to mention a HUGE pet peeve of mine is when I have to use placement cheats because a counter, a fridge, or something like that is sliced in half by a wall.

This tempts me to load my game up with some payfiles and post some pictures as well :)

Reflexsims does that all the time. Their stuff used to overwrite Maxis objects a lot, too. I haven't downloaded anything from them for quite a while, so I don't know if they've improved in that area.

The Deseo set, doesn't even come with a fridge! The pictures (wider ones) if you place them wrong, cut through a wall.

Reflex are VERY good at sucking people in. I spent a lot of money on their sets, because they look wonderful on the site. Get them in game though, and well, you see what you get.

Can't you tell by the over use of the sharpen?  ;D

Vitasims turn next  :o

I downloaded one at random here. I am shocked by the results  ;)

Now, this look wonderful, doesn't it? I'd buy it, if I didn't know better.

In game
(http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/Rhianwen_2006/snapshot_75e6bc36_35e6d2f3.jpg)

In game
(http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/Rhianwen_2006/snapshot_75e6bc36_35e6d495.jpg)

Now, lets have a closer look. Notice the way the sims legs are swallowed by the table....which is to be expected, given the design of the table, but even the chair on the left goes into it.

In the preview picture, the detail on the cabinets looks ok. Get close up, and you can see it's just literally painted on. I have to say, even these pictures do not show how truly bad it is. It is much worse, in game than these photos could ever show.

Magic piano, anyone?

These were taken with shadows on. The objects, zey has no shadows. Consequently in game, they lack any real depth at all.

These objects, are probably very high poly. Suffice to say, my usually smooth running puter, really wasn't liking this set at all.

This one is quite subtly done, but I do think that yes, it's been tweaked to look better. The detail in game is nowhere near as sharp as it looks on site.

I don't know if it's just my personal preference or not but I think the in game shots are better than their preview pics.  ::)

Scrummy, eh?

Ugh. The first post. That's reflexsims, right? When I first discovered this site, I was under the delusion that paystuff was superior. No basis for that belief, other than the assumption that money makes everything magically better.

So I go into a shitstorm of downloading, and can't wait to get all the stuff in game. Imagine how perplexed-- perplexed I was when I saw how shitty it was in game.

I had to delete almost everything. I was the MOST let down by the reflexsims stuff. OH, that stuff is beautiful---- ON THE REFLEX SITE ONLY.

Oh, and in game, the decor has weird white, pixelated borders on everything too.
(I'm still bitter, obviously).

The good news is that my game runs so much better after deleting all the peggy/murano/reflex/ and rosecrap.
Please post more of these!!! LOVE!

Heh, Ill take your word for it.   Im sure they're shit in game but your screenshots do them more justice than Vita's enticing photos do.

Title: Re: Photoshop shopped!
Post by: calalily on 2008 September 24, 21:34:55
Actually, I don't think that Millie's pictures do make them look better - if you have a kick arse graphics card, there shouldn't be a blurriness to the texture. Maybe if you're not used to a kick arse graphics card, it may look better overall.  :)

Not to mention there is the other detraction for Vita Sims - polycounts.  See that insipid candelabra in the fourth picture down? Polycount for that one tile object (upper limit for creators is 1,200 without compromising game running ability for downloaders) is 14,844

The total polycount for that set is 60500 - so you need a kick arse graphics card to render it, yet it doesn't come with kick arse graphics.

One set that I drooled over from Reflex was the Ameritania collection. I plotted, I planned, I found the BOOTY! Once I got it in game, I got rid of it fast! I'd also gotten some of the bathrooms as well, and they too, went out via the delete button. They bled through the walls like all hell and while I did keep the floors and maybe one of the walls, none of the rest of it was worth the headache that I got from seeing it in game. Good idea for this thread, Millie, you're a sweetie to put that fug in and show us what sins can be covered with clever photoshopping.

Same here. Before I knew about the booty I used to promise myself that when I got a credit card the first thing I'd do was to raid ReflexSims and download every set (although it might have sounded a bit like "baaaaaa"). Theirs was also the first objects that I ARRed from the booty (the Pearl set and the Art Studio, if I'm not mistaken) just to find out that it bled through walls/had weird grid schemes (like a three tile desk or a wall mirror that would hang 1 grid away from the wall at all occasions)/looked generally shitty in game.
This thread is a wonderful idea. We should spread the word around in the community: if you absolutely MUST buy CC it's always good to know what are you really going to pay for.

In total agreement. I drooled over reflexcrap until I saw it in game. But the editing on the pics is amazing. Methinks their talent lies in photoshop effects rather than object creation. Which is a shame. That person might be able to edit Cameron Diaz to make her look pretty.

) just to find out that it bled through walls/had weird grid schemes (like a three tile desk or a wall mirror that would hang 1 grid away from the wall at all occasions)
ahahahaha! You get what you pay for right? Wait, no! That's not right! Payshit indeed.
Thanks to this site, we get to see the work "warts and all". What a bait n' switch they're all trying to pull. You think something's good and see that it's ugly in game. But by then, it's like 'haha. I mean, oops. Well, you paid for it already. NO REFUNDS!"

Just a quickie, because I'm getting tired now. It's nearly midnight and us old fogeys have to get our sleep  :D

Next up, Simcredible designs.

Doesn't this look just wonderful.

Now the in game shot.

You will notice, that on my version there is no cooker hood. Reason for this? It's not damn well included in the set. Oh, you do get an extractor, but it isn't that one, and nowhere on the download page that I can see is the link to download that particular extractor. So, not only does it look jack all like that when you get it in game, you don't even get that particular item. Talk about false advertising!

Here's the one that you get in the set. Apologies for the darkness.

The cooker bleeds into the wall

Ze mysterious floating plate

Water coming from midair!

Oh, and I almost forgot. You get a fridge with this one. Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, given how it is ;)
Whats with the glowy bits?

This is the only pic I could find that had the fridge in it. Strangely, no glowy bit on show.

With all of these, I have tried to reproduce the effect the paysite has used. With this set, I could in no way, by altering lighting, get the metal to look shiny like that.

They've obviously messed with the contrast and added shine in those kitchen pics. I do have a question about the wall that came with it, did that rock wall come with the actual set? Because it isn't anything like the advertised picture.

from reflex's amertania set
(http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo159/oolongtea29/ameritaniareflexmirror.jpg)
the mirror does not fit the frame. Also, what's with the white graininess around the image? You usually get that ugly white border with low quality animated gif files, especially viewable on any non-white setting.

Again with the "gif.file" type white edges. Obviously, these objects were only ever meant to go on pristine white walls with the sims ligh and shadow settings disabled. I couldn't find any larger pics of the bowls, but I guess I know the reason why.

Nope, oolongteadrinker saw that (unless she/he just edited his/her oversight really quickly :D). Oooog, I'm too slow!

Also, what's with the white graininess around the image? You usually get that ugly white border with low quality animated gif files, especially viewable on any non-white setting.

The "white graniness" is more than likely due to poorly painted alphas combined with using a white/beige background in the working file instead of one coloured to match the metal (and yes, alphas that look like this are a true mark of laziness in my opinion).

I love this thread; I think it's a great idea.

Because I feel that the full craptasicness of the Deseo set has yet to be realized, here are a few more screenies for your amusement/disgust. I remembered this set when Millie showcased it, and how annoyed I was that I had even wasted my time downloading the files from the booty. I did forget to check the recolors of one the paintings. No loss, I'm sure. I wanted to show how many freaking pieces there are to this set (58 files!), cluttering up you catalog all over the damn place. And no repository used, so the set is over 22MB for 3 colors. Pictures are cropped to save space. Clicky for more detail.

(http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/th_reflexcrap0.jpg) (http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/reflexcrap0.jpg)

Here you can see the sideboard is eated if placed against a wall. The deco on top are probably the best items in the entire set, and actually didn't look bad at all. The footprint you see is the painting above, resulting in ugly overlap issues if you place something on the wall beside it. And the sink there on the right...shading, whut? It's funny because it often looks convex in-game, rather than concave, partly due to there being no drain at the bottom.

(http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/th_reflexcrap1.jpg) (http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/reflexcrap1.jpg)

This painting suffers the same footprint issue as the one shown above. You can see the rug has the same problem as well. I didn't test the candles functionality, but I noticed the grabbable area for them is oversized.

(http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/th_reflexcrap2.jpg) (http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/reflexcrap2.jpg)

Here are the counters. The 2 on the left have the d/w and t/c in them. Although only one package, this objects shows twice in the catalog due to fail cloning. The middle one, despite being the same object as the leftmost one, won't recolor once it has been placed. And the one on the right shows you a fucked up "recolor" which wasn't cleaned from the package. Looks to be part Maxian and part oops. The cupboards also have some extra recolor choices but at least they are just repeated stuff.

(http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/th_reflexcrap3.jpg) (http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/reflexcrap3.jpg)

Picture hodgepodged to show multiple inept footprints. Here are the pieces you have to puzzle together to make the frame around the counters, which Millie showed in her post. All the footprints are completely off, and as she showed, it doesn't even all fit together properly when you do finally figure out what the heck these pieces of crap in you counters catalog are (circled bits are these 4 things plus the redundant countertop).

(http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/th_reflexcrap4.jpg) (http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/veganelise/reflexcrap4.jpg)

I believe there's maybe a warning on the Reflex site that the set's counters do not take sinks. Well, yes and no. You can place the sink without moveobjects on (and probably use it as well), but the results ain't purty. Yeah, the upper drawer just kinda...waits over there. Snazzy, n'est pas?

This thread is most excellent.

I never minded some minor photoshopping.  Like the occational "light coming through the window" because I know that it's not going to happen in the game.  But, sometimes, I've seen room sets that I swear, they're using the picture from the catalog to show the room, not the actual creations they made.

I can't fault anyone for using a texture to cut down on the amount of polys when doing a mesh.  However, they'd better give what they promise and actually have a low poly count.  It's when it's got this huge count, and yet all the "detail" is texture that it irritates me.  How hard can it be to make a low poly square?  Errr, well, maybe it is hard, I'm ignorant, I admit. But I would imagine that it's not that difficult to convert a simple shape into a low poly, vs. something complicated.

Tomato/Paleoanth's stuff always looks the same in the preview pictures as it does in the game.  No, I take that back.  The Horizons bedroom actually looked better in the game than it did in the preview picture.  (I wanted to include a link to the set, but MTS2 is going wonky on me.)

Edit: I didn't mean to make the writing *that* tiny

Same here. I can view something in context and be all "I see what they did. They're trying to be all romantic and stuff. Rays of sun. Don't it just give you the warm fuzzies inside?"

VS.
"They altered the object images themselves as a blatant F-you to the subscribers."
There's a point where it should end, but do THEY know that?

If you gotta photoshop your creations at least SAY so. Or, alternatively, if you think it's that bad that you HAVE to photoshop it to make it look good, make it better.

There's an excellent article over at MTS2 that gives all sorts of hints and tips for reducing polys. It's very easy. Putting an attractive texture on it so it looks like high polys is a lot harder, of course. (ex: Adele)

Edited to fix type. Grrr.

Exactly.  And it's a very easy effect, at least with PSP.  And, anyone who plays the game knows the sun doesn't really "shine" into windows.

VS.
"They altered the object images themselves as a blatant F-you to the subscribers."
There's a point where it should end, but do THEY know that?

I don't think they do. Back when I made stuff, I never altered my game shots, except for a little bit of sharpening (And by little bit, I mean little bit.  Some of the examples shown have been so sharpened they could cut your eyes by looking at them)  and that's because if you use the in game camera, the pictures are blury.  If I used the print screen button, I didn't have to sharpen.

Yes, I added whatever I could in the game to enhance the picture, I admit.  I'd put in a ceiling, try to use attractive things that came with the game to enhance the objects I made, etc.  But my personal philosophy was "If I can't have it in the game and be able to play the game with it, I'm not going to show it in my pictures."  This is one of the reasons why I never ever used a reflective floor.   Yes, I can put it in my game.  Yes, I can take pictures. But if I try to play the game with a reflective floor, it slows down to a crawl.

That, to me, is where dishonesty comes to play.  I've heard creators and seen creators basically admit to it.  "Yes, these reflective floors are lovely.  However, you'll never be able to use them and actually play the game!"

I suppose if someone has the top of the line computer with all the bells and whistles, they might be able to, but not everyone has such a system.

I love the rays coming through the window. I'd love to be able to do that (it's probably not that hard, I'm just lazy)
If you gotta photoshop your creations at least SAY so. Or, alternatively, if you think it's that bad that you HAVE to photoshop it to make it look good, make it better.

If you have paint shop pro (PSP) it's a simple matter of going to Effects / reflections / sunburst.   Then, a screen pops up and you can put that stream of sunshine anywhere you want on the picture and control the intensity of the effect.

I have no clue how you'd find it in photoshop.  I tried to learn photoshop, but it gave me a huge headache.

You should edit your post instead of double posting  ;)

I think in CS3 it's under the same categories for the sunburst as well. I don't think you can do those effects with gimp either, but correct me if I am wrong.

I use Photoshop 6.0, and it's under Filters...Effects. Or Filters...Render. Something like that.

Basically everything I've ever downloaded from VitaSims was deleted the moment I got to see it in-game. My computer laughs at your polygon concerns, but I still won't put up with badly photoskinned items. SimCredible...I have a few items from them, but about half I initially downloaded had issues with bad textures or clipping.

I must admit there was a time where I thought of upgrading my computer just so I could play the reflective floors option. This is the noise my computer makes when I play the reflections: "erk, erk, erk, erk"

Then I came to my senses. Why rebuild my computer top to bottom for that silly feature when I can just delete the objects that cause it to slow down?

It's all very easy once you make the choice.
Back on topic, I doubt these creators actually play their sims with the mirrored floors. They just want to extend that impression to us plebs.

I ripped my downloads folder out today, and removed over 200 files before putting any CC back in. "Photoshopping" sucks. My computer is pretty nice, but it can barely handle neighbors on without an unacceptable amount of lag. Happily, cutting out all of that junk lowered my load time!

You'd be suprised at how fast your computer could go without excess CC.
You got the download organiser right? that gets rid of old meshes/recolors with no counter part.

Thanks guys! It looks a little complicated to get into tonight, but I've bookmarked it. I found a hair that is obviously missing its colors, as it is a big gaping hole in the top of the sims' head. Other than that nothing too strange.

*goes off to try to find something that actually relates to the thread* :p

This thread is making me dread the clean out of my objects folder even more.  And I thought deleting all the sucky hair was a huge task!  Why did I put this stuff in my game in the first place?

Well, I never put in anything quite as bad as the stuff being shown here.  But I have some half-assed things, like b0rked custom beds, that need to go.

I don't have a super computer, but I've never had a problem making, say, the kitchen of a house have reflective floors.  One of my legacy houses has a shiny kitchen.  I don't get the people who decorate everything with them, but one room isn't killer.  Of course, I always try to use the fewest pieces of floor mirror possible.  I'm on a laptop with 2GB ram and a 256MB video card, though, so perfectly adequete specs, but not spectacular.

When it comes to photoshopping previews, I remember Chaz's VictorAndRolf Hair being particularly bad so whacked it in my Downloads folder briefly, and behold!

Look at the image on the right (thats taken in my BodyShop), at the top of the braid there are two hole glitches in the mesh..whereas in the preview picture there is not, in fact it does look like someone has smudged the texture to hide them hrm. Also at the bottom of the braid, the loose hair in the preview picture looks fine whereas in reality its, er, on a weird 3D bit  ??? So again, looks like Chaz got his smudging tool out and hid that in the preview pictures.

It also looks like he smudged the side of the head where the seam meets the face. It doesn't look as obviously messed with on the right side, but the left is pretty noticeable.  ::)

Can someone explain this to me?
I suspect it has something to do with the rug or the vase's gaps, or transparencies or whatever. I don't know if the reflex rug does the same thing to other objects, but...

??
Now that I think of it, it's not very common that objects are placed on rugs on the reflex screenshots. I could be wrong.
Or maybe it's a problem with the vase and bowl alone?

and into the delete bin this stuff goes!

I tend to use the same things over and over. I've had the sims 2 for almost 2 years and all the crappy things would just languish in there.

But I have things sorted in folders. Surfaces, chairs, hair, etc. Once you have a system, its pretty easy to get rid of all the crap. (also makes it easier to find the buggy files).

Heh. Glad to bring a new paystuff glitch to light. It was weird. The vase and bowl's middle would disappear if you moved the table it was placed on one tile down. Move it over on the left or right, and it was fine. North/South direction, not so much. The camera angle and object angles were both the same, but even if I swivel the camera view maybe 90 degrees, the middle of that object would pop out.

So no 180 or 90 degree turns, or perpendicular movement. But parallel movement is okay for those objects. Got it!
Only not so much. Deleted that set after I posted the pic.

About the hair:
It's as I thought, this isn't a sparkly *new* mesh from peggy. It's an adaptation of the obligatory Raon/Rose/Peggy short coupe. She just added the long bangs upfront and possed her models so that the hair gives the impression of uniform length. She's such a LAZY money grabbing cow, isn't she?

That's called ghetto in the US. Scene kids up here (the ones most likely to wear such a hair cut) aren't that bad. They're usually nice people, they just dress rather flamboyantly. In fact, up here, if you're a scene girl, it's hip to be ugly now. If you aren't ugly, you damn well better get an ugly haircut. *shrug*

Lots of Peggy hairs have that weird aura. I think it's from abusing the blur tool, but I don't really know how Peggy gets many of her fucked-up effects. This is a woman who thinks dark purple = black, and who thinks anyone in their right mind would want their Sims to have a reverse mullet.

I'm scatterbrained sometimes. I use PhotoShop all the time and didn't even think of that. Yeah, that must be what it is. I played around with the pic in PhotoShop a bit...fixed that aura right up. Blur can be a good thing, but too much is a very bad thing.

Oh, next thing you know it, you're going to tell me you put this stuff in your game and expect to actually play it. Didn't you know?  Paid content isn't for playing the game, it's for admiring.  You're supposed to take pictures of it, then photoshop them to make them look even better!

Actually, I rarely ever "play" my game.  I build houses, make people to go in those houses, but I hardly play them--and then its just usually to do stories.  I just like the creating part, so I'll put something a little more high poly in because I assume I'm never actually going to play that house.

Me too. I build trillions of houses, make families for them, and don't actually play.  :P
My game throws a fit when there are too many polys, it just crashes and closes...

I didn't notice that Ashbashtus!  :o It's completely consumed by that wall.

I think the headboard is just a wallpaper..  It's hard to tell from the photoshopped preview picture but it looks completely flat on the edges to me.  I don't have it in my game though, so maybe Jilly will see this and confirm it either way.  :)

Not really a photoshopped piece of work, but something I came across while playing just then.

I noticed a bath from one of Simtomatic's sets had writing in it.
I looked around the room but none of my wealls had writing on them, and I moved the camera angle in a way so I could see what it said.
It said something along the lines of "+x" on one line and on the next line it said "RIGHT".
Here's a screenie I took, it's weird.

Edit : After looking around the bath more, turns out it's just telling people who recolour the bath what sides are what, as there's a left, right, top and bottom written on diff sides of the bath.

*facepalm*

Maybe it's some kind of subliminal message to plant unconscious ideas. *You will pay for this stuff* When I first found PMBD I downloaded all kinds of stuff thinking "Now I can get the REALLY good stuff!" What a letdown. It's the same or worse than free stuff. Except Sussi. I kept all of Sussi's stuff.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, because on Peggy's website, she doesn't really have Sims/Pets shown on her preview pictures. This is why I believe she doesn't. I don't know how long this bed has been in my game, but this house was the first time I had ever used it. It was really the only bed that wen with my white/gold theme I wanted. I originally had the matching endtables as well, but they literally do not match up with any OMSP, so I trashed em. They probably had atrocious polys anyways.

And let me have my moment of bare honesty. I thought this bed was pretty. I admit it. But I have a pet peeve when things just don't look right. So I actually got a chance to play it the other day and boy was I pissed. At first, I noticed Lele's kitty floating mid air. This bothered me all to hell. So later that night Lele had a male sim stay over, and he immediately went and crawled into bed. Well I just happened to catch him in the bed, and it's absolutely lovely how his body is contorted all about, while he has no covers to cover him up. I should have also gotten a side view, because his head slightly floats off the pillows as well.

I'd like to think of it as both.  ;D

After your comment though, I looked at the last picture again, and on the right side of the bed, a pillow is just floating off of the side. No way would it be at all possible for a pillow to balance itself on the side of a bed.

I used to think my game was broken because of all the weirdness that happens with custom beds.  Now I don't even bother, unless it uses the Eaxis bedding.  Otherwise, I just can't deal with the creepy factor of watching my Sims floating above the bed or having the bed absorb body parts.

I think this stuff should at least have a warning.  "Good for props only, not for gameplay!"

I pretty much use the game for storytelling purposes only these days, the times when I actually sit down to play the game are getting rare, but I still can't get myself to download custom beds. It's fine if you just want a picture of a bedroom, but if later on you need a picture of a sim sleeping in that bed, you're well and truly fucked. I'd rather not put myself in a position where I've publihed a chapter that has a picture of a bed that simply isn't fit for use, but need a shot of someone sleeping in it nonetheless.
It's a real shame too because some of the prettiest objects out there are beds. I really have to restrain myself or I'd be downloading them all.

Out of curiosity, because I'm a total n00b when it comes to object creation, what is it about beds that's so hard to get right?

A lot of people lately have taken bed frou frou like pillows, blankets and such and made it into decorative objects separate from the bed itself. This way beds can retain maxis sheets that will cover sleeping contortions properly, and if you are so inclined you can take it off when your sims are sleeping, or leave it off all together. Best of all it can be used on more than one bed. I wish more people would do bedding that way instead of ignoring the awful sleeping animations.

Title: Re: Photoshop shopped!

I think alot of it is is involved in the animations.  There are a lot for the bed, so its probably a bit more than what any of the 3d programs can handle combined with simpe....  I guess this, anyway.

And I've done the foot blanket and throwpillow bloster thing as seperate items - no, I can't spell.

Bedding has a tremendous amount of joints. You'd have to reassign those joints and that would be a royal pain in the arse.  I don't think anyone would bother as there's really no point - you'd do one elaborate bedding, and it would fit one bed.  Better to save yourself the effort and find some way to incorporate the existing bedding.  Because even if you did do it (it's like about 300 joints from memory) it would be a pain in the arse to get right, and would take ages, and no one would care. :P

What irks me more then retarded above the covers sleeping is really nice beds with crap comfort and energy. I mean wtf? I delete beds that done have a minimum of 8-8. My sims have lives goddamn it! They don't need to spend all day trying to get comfortable and have to sleep for half the day.

I just use Sims 2 Categorizer from Sims Wardrobe and just change the comfort and energy levels on custom beds.  Works fine for me (sometimes too good when they are maxed out on fitness levels - they only sleep 4-6 hours and are up and running around).

Thanks for explaining calalily, I think I get it. It does seem like too much trouble for something people probably don't care about. But I agree a little warning ('this bed looks like crap when used' this bed does not use Maxis bedding) would be nice.
I should probably put this in Ask a Pirate, but since we're on the subject, is there a way to tell from looking at them whether they use existing bedding? Forgetting for a minute that this is the Photoshop Shopped thread of course  ;)

You can assume that they don't if you don't see it - having made a few beds, I know what to look for now.  So if you see a flat round bed with a sheet draped over it, it's pretty safe to say that it will have a contortion bit.  If you don't see the standard Maxis bedding patterns, you can assume that it *might* be a custom sheet in there with no joints.  Mostly, if it looks like a  standard Maxis bed shape like here (http://calalily.sublimesims.net/images/stories/mymesh/oxbloodset.jpg) then it's probably okay - it should look like a bedding you see in your game (be careful to look at the shape of the pillows and the way the sheets are as opposed to the pattern).

But that's not to say that without maxis quilt as uppermost, the bedding is guaranteed to be crap.  For example, if the bed were thicker, width wise, you would not have that trouble.  Take my morgue bed Lookie at the picture (http://calalily.sublimesims.net/images/stories/mymesh/bleached.jpg)  :) That uses Maxis' bedding, as you can see in the upper right (a picture of the sim in the bed) the "slab" part of the morgue bed is placed higher over the existing bedding there - actually floating on top.  If you made a really high bed, you could get away with custom sheets - you'll have a little blergh look when they're getting in and out (they clip into the bed) but that can be reliably avoided for most of the time, and doesn't look like your sim is having a convulsion most of the time. Most importantly, you can take pictures of them sleeping, and they'll be fine.  You may have to alter your angle, but they'll look acceptable and non-floaty.

Aw thanks.  :-* But so that you get more of an idea, here's some more new bed meshes that use Maxis' sheeting, guaranteed not to look like contortions:
Woolcroft bottom of the page and there are more on other pages (http://www.simcasticdesigns.com/bedrooms-p4.html)
This moroccan bed - see even with extra pillows, it's still Maxis sheets (http://www.parsimonious.org/furniture2/bedroom/af-DarZinaBedroom.shtml)
Click Mobel and there is a bed on the first page (http://www.tarox4sims2.de/)
You can see the beds half way down the page - again same mesh for the sheets (http://mounes-neighbourhood.110mb.com/LeMorvanBedroom1.html)

If you can see the same shape of the bedding, you can download it with little problem.  :)

Aww now I have more downloads I don't need. My poor compy.  :(

I agree with Blackdwarf. If someone creates something for pictures only, I wish it would be labeled. I think Nouk and I talked about this in an earlier thread, but peggy's stuff is basically meant for pictures only. Meaning her crap is so high poly, and not created correctly, it really only looks good by itself, no simmies.

In terms of fixing the bed, Cala I know you said it would be a pain, but would there be a way to raise that peggy bed so they are under the covers? I know you might run into issues with clipping with all the pillows and such, but would it even be possible?

Don't you love it when you have to go back and fix pay creators work because they are just to damn lazy?

I use some paysite stuff for my blog, including somepeggy hairs and I haveto agree. It's really pretty if you manage to position the camera juuuust right, which is kinda hard if your game screams out in terror and throws a hissy lagging fit at the amount of polies. But, I'm in it for the pretty pictures. Couldn't play with that crap though. Al the sims I actually play have decent free hair and outfits, the way god intended them to  ;D

I wouldn't touch her mesh because I believe that paysite crap *shouldn't* be fixed by anyone else.  It should go out in all it's crappy glory and the name shouldn't be spread around with the caveat "just a little free fixing and it's fine, please pay again". That gives free, good press to paysites, and suddenly their shit is everywhere - and they can justify selling it.  ;)

Looking at the picture, though, you could extend the legs and see how it looks, and then if that looks hinky you could possibly make the bed base thicker.  Depending on how the mesh is compiled, that might be easy or hard - because if the whole thing is part of one group, then you'd spend ages at it and possibly wouldn't work depending on the mapping, which would stretch.  It would be possible, but with the time and effort you'd have to take, it would be easier just to make a replica from scratch.

I'm sure that Peggy has made polys no issue - so if you're prepared for a high poly, it could be reliably reproduced in a short period of time.  If you wanted lower polys but with the same amount of detail, that would take slightly longer, but would be worth the effort. Going by previous beds, I'd say 2 days tops to produce a replica that didn't have the problems (and bonus you didn't have to credit goddamn Peggy).

As far as clipping, the head of the sim would certainly clip into the pillows strewn around the bed, but that's not an issue if you don't want it to be - although obviously you wouldn't be able to take pictures of them sleeping in it, as raising the bed would disappear your sim unless you got rid of the ones lying around nearer the sim.

I've seen beds very similar in style, one being Holy Simoly.  I know there are others, I just don't remember where right now.   Wouldn't it be better to just create a deco mesh of pillows and duvet to go over such beds?  Extra pillows are going to clip, unless you make the bed longer and allow space above the sims head.  But then you would need to change the footprint unless you wanted it poking out through walls.  Then I believe that gets into changing the animation because then you've moved the mattress around and entry/exit points are now adjusted.  lol Wouldn't deco duvet and pillows work better?

As I've been chatting about beds, this too has occurred to me and intrigued me - can I do this without contortion? Of course, with compy gone past Halloween, existing projects for Halloween have lost their urgency. :D I might incorporate it into another theme that was waiting to be started before the compy was gone.  Calalily is a dilettante.  :D All pray that the compy will soon be repaired, and all argy bargy by bastard video card company will be over tomorrow.  :P

Wouldn't deco duvet and pillows work better?

That could be a consideration - that you could make a deco duvet and remove it if needed.  But I don't think it would be necessary - you could mesh the bed with that included.  Of course, if you made the duvet, you could make it more versatile, but it might clip into bed bases, and not be as versatile as you wish.  I don't think you'd need to change the footprint or the animations though - I know I *don't* care if my sims are absorbed by the pillow or blankets, but I do care if they're contorted over the bed.

If yours isn't already custom, you should really custom build your computer. I had an hp and that thing was a piece of shit. It was one of those mini towers too, so literally upgrading it was not an option. I tore the whole thing down, rebuilt it like 3 times, and now I have a gem. It can handle most games on the highest setting, hold all my sims downloads, not to mention it looks badass. The case I chose for it was called the Nemesis, and it looks like a transformer.

I probably spent 1000 dollars on it, and that's getting two new cases, three graphics cards, two power supplies, two motherboards, a monitor, speakers, and various other little parts likes fans and such.

I love the deco bed covers and pillows, but here is my issue. I have literally 5 decorative bed covers, and lord only knows how many pillows. And only two bed covers, and two sets of the pillows are repository. All those objects with textures I keep because I like the textures, but I hate the fact they are repository. I don't care if the bed eats my sim, as long as I can't see their twisted ankles, but I do care when I have to hassle over matching bed spreads. Plus I can never find pillows that look just right on the maxis beds, because maxis beds have those pillows on them. I'm sure they could be removed, and I wish I knew how, cause they just throw my decorative pillows off for me.

Next one will be custom - I found a shop that builds them custom, with 3 year warranties and no vista. :D At the moment though, I have a 3 year warranty - it's just all the bullshit that is bureaucracy taking me so long, and the people who made the video card that failed in a short amount of time are being little bitches about it. I don't have to deal with them, I just have to wait while the company that's fixing it deals with them.

I understand that - for future reference on more specific problems though, have you tried my bedding deco in repository and non repository flavours (http://calalily.sublimesims.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=103&Itemid=135) and if so, how do you feel about the way in which the pillows are dealt with with that?  It'd be helpful to know what the problem would be in that circumstance, so that I could remove those problems in the construction.  :) I know I didn't like the maxis pillows peeking out at me, and from memory, I tried to reduce that as much as possible, if not absorb them.  But I don't know if that's what you're referring to.

Hmm no I didn't try those, but I will put them in a see how they look. As for the pillows:

See how in that picture you can still see the maxis pillows? That irks me. Just a minor pet peeve of mine.

fake edit: Cala, I should go to target or something and just take pictures of all the pretty beds, because I love your beddings! This is why I should check out signatures more often.

Oh well, as far as that, no, I wouldn't allow the seeing of Maxis pillows if they were left in the mesh.  I agree - that's damn ugly.  Of course, it might be easier to delete them all together in a custom bed - if they're not being seen or used, then get rid of those polys. They might need to be left in, for some reason, but it's a matter of angling the custom pillows and making them plump enough to hide the maxis ones. Particularly if they're non-repository you don't want a mismatch.

And thank you  :-* - shouldn't have opened calalilysims - should have opened calalilybeddingandskintones. :D

That's the issue I have with deco pillows. They are pretty, but don't cover the maxis pillows. So then I end up lumping like 10 pillows on the bed, and then the bed just looks worse. I wonder if there is a way to do like an "invisible" color on the pillows, so even the maxis beds lose the pillows? Probably not, but I can dream!

And thank you  :-* - shouldn't have opened calalilysims - should have opened calalilybeddingandskintones. :D

:D Yeah, you do have a lot of beddings. Now I wonder since you only have double beds pictured, do all the beddings work on single beds as well?

A little comparison, if you please: I already posted the in-game shot in the thread for ugliest paysite finds, but I thought I'd show the difference between the picture of it on the site and what it really looks like:

It doesn't look too bad in the pictures, does it? No.

But it is bad:

And this is also true about some other pictures i saw on earlier pages.

Wait - do you dislike the repository or the non-repository stuff - I am confused.
Non-respositoried items are 100% pure USDA Grade A *SUCK*, because they chew up many times MOAR RAMS AND DISK SPACES as a result, which has a dramatic, noticeable effect on your game's loading and run times. VERY SUCK.

As an example of how ATROCIOUSLY SUCK it can be, a GRIEVOUS OFFENDER, whose name I forget, consumed some *5-6 MBs* in its original form. After I stripped, debloated, and properly linked the file, guess how big it was? 15k! I don't think I need to tell you how an improvement of 400x might improve your game's performance. If this entire GAME had been coded that well, 640K would still be all anyone would ever need.

I have to say I agree with Pescado  ::)  I love repository.

Can you image if EA had done the game correctly and linked more textures?  Things would match!  And then we could have MOAR things because there would be less texture files hogging space.  ;D

Title: Re: Photoshop shopped!
Post by: Missbonbon on 2008 November 17, 19:50:20
I love it when things are repository. Makes my life easier. Not to mention, as Pes said, takes up less space. If I knew how I would fix everything that isn't repository in my game.

As for that hair, yes it is ugly. But I don't think you have your graphics up on the highest setting, which is what it looks like they have taken the picture with. If you look, their bricks look more defined, whereas yours are somewhat blurred. Not to mention both of their sims clothes (the sim in the background) is well defined, and yours is blurred. I would love to see how this hair looks on the highest setting though, not that it would probably look at better.  :P

I like making repository items that match existing eaxis items - like cloth that calls to the bedding.

Then people don't need a master mesh, just the game.

I also prefer to download repositoried items, for the same reasons - easier to match stuff.

Figured it'd be a matter of time before this happens again since Peggy hasn't been the "hot topic" of discussion in a while.   ::)

Anyways, back to derailed topic, I'm starting to become a big fan of repository objects myself.  Wish EA had done that method from the beginning, because it would sure be a space saver and a decorative plus on my end.

Light_Angel, saying you wish EA would have done something to make our lives easier is like asking for a miracle to occur. It just won't happen at all.

On another completely derailed topic, The Sims 3 looks terrible to me. I do like the idea that everything shares the textures, but their heads just look like gobs of clay onto of bodies. Not to mention it looks as if it would be extremely difficult to create for since if has the new texture sharing system. And in a lot of the screenies I have seen, it looks like they just re-created Sims 2 furniture for Sims 3.

:D  I know, right?  EA doesn't want our moniez bad enough for our input for making the game even cooler, yet they're willing to milk the franchise for every single penny they can while destroying slowly it in the process with some of their new "innovations".  (in-game ads for the upcoming Sims 3 is not very attractive to me. Neither is the one neighborhood deal, limited installations, SecuRom, etc.)

When it comes to Sims 3, I'm not impressed by the graphics at all... and I'm really hoping there's a way to hack the heck out of those genetics if I ever change my mind and decide to get it.  The eyes on the new sims just freak me out for some reason.

I am amazed and astounded by your uncanny skills of working the expression "amazed and astounded" in 99% of your posts.

About The Sims 3, I don't find myself tempted by it. I'm a bit of a control freak and the idea that other Sim families are carrying on with their affairs without me to supervise them while I'm playing a certain lot scares the bejeesus out of me. That and, agreeing with Light_Angel (and risking sounding like a 12), I don't think the Sims are pwetty enough. They don't look like humans nor like Sims, and there's something about their general eye area that is rather unsettling to me.

Anyway, back on topic.

Wow, such bad craftmanship all over the place.

I know this has been talked about to death but I swear though, people could make an entire thread on some of those Donation hairs from Peggy.  Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they like one of the most expensive sites around?  Anyway, I can't believe how bad some of these meshes look in my game.  I've downloaded hair meshes made from begining hair meshers from free sites that look ten times better.

I honestly don't understand how some of these donation sites stay afloat (Arrr) with people charging for such shitty work.

See, I like that EAxis took a different approach with TS3.  I don't know if I like the whole seamless neighborhood idea either, but they had to do something like that, or they'd be releasing a Sims 2 with slightly better graphics and a few differences in gameplay.  TS1 had a lot to be improved on; TS2, not so much.  I'd rather they release something a little bizarre but different than the same thing again.

Will I be buying it?  With Securom, of course not.  Will I Arr! it?  Maybe.  I think I'll see what people are saying first.

Because that would cost them money!

We were having this discussion in my class tonight.  And how those who write code for programs now don't care about "tight code".  Or as Pescado calls it, bloated.  This instructor wrote original programs in Assembly language, when you had virtually no memory because it was expensive.  And it was done on punch cards.  So writing good code was important.  Now, with the current languages, there easier to learn, more people know them, and therefore they can hire anyone to write the code.  As long as it does what its supposed to, its ok.  Doesn't matter if it has twice as many lines as necessary.  As long as its cost effective.

I know, its horrid - you see it in web design too - I learned to code html in notepad.  And its clean, crisp, and easy to sort through, even after years of not coding anything.  The web building software is -not- clean or clear.

Only thing I've ever used Dreamweaver for, is to see how my code looks as I code it the old fashioned way.

Ditto.  That, and for keeping an openable site map on my harddrive.  That's pretty damn handy in itself.  I'm back to Notepad in a pinch, though.  I was taking a Computers in Ed course a few years back, and we had an assignment to make a web quest.  Well, I wanted to go on vacation, so I ended up coding it in Notepad on my friend's computer.  She wasn't a techie and that was the only thing she had on the computer you could edit a webpage in.  It was a fun bit of nostalgia, refreshing an IE page with Notepad open on the other half of the screen.  :D

Right, so why did you attack Paden's opinion then? Its only her opinion and not everyone elses (well, here it might be slightly different). Yes, there are lots of recolours done of her hair but what people do not realise is that her hair is gappy, uneditable and above all is high polycount which means it will slow down the games of anyone on a low end computer.

I hate Peggy's hair, I voice that I hate it and how she swindles people out of money (the naive people that is) and uses a game she did not create to make profit. Others think differently and they voice their opinions (and back them up if needed unlike you). Don't like it? Stay away from here - we love debate and don't like people telling us what to think and like. Yes some of us maybe a little harsh but thats PMBD for you.

Not that I really think it matters. It sounded more like carebear was upset that we (most of us- if not all) think that peggy's hairs suck and freely and openly admit it.

Silly, if you think about it. This site isn't called "Sunshine, Rainbows and HappynessLand". It's called Paysites Must Be Destroyed. Peggy=paysite. Peggy=paysite w/crappy, gappy hairs=more destroy-worthy.

I'd like to take a moment to point out that it's not new members that we treat poorly. It's idiots.

Coming into the phorum and immediately pointing fingers and being a dipshit is a sure-fire way to get flamed.

And on that same note, it just so happens that most of the not new members were never dumb enough to get treated poorly when they were new members, and thus, they've become old members. Teh logic. It wurks.

So.. did carebear get the idea that flubberbut is a known troll and therefore a target for anything we care to lob at it? (I still think blubberflub is peggy herself.)

Most of what peggy says is 'You like my stuff - I so glad', even in response to people complaining about her stuff. I think buttheadfup is just a 12 with an insatiable desire to be an attention-whore.

Oh man, carebear, you have no idea how these guys chewed me up and spat me out for being a fracking idiot in my first posts.  :D Take a deep breath, grow a thicker skin and try again. (Apologising for idiocy helps too, in my experience, as long as you do it over and over). And PMBD used to be a lot rougher too. These days people actually explain why idiots get chewed up. Used to be you just got a lot of nifty kittehs and a swift kick in the backside.

Use that fat wad of grey tissue you've got in your skull, please. Would you go to a republican rally to stick up for a democrat and get uppity when people get pissed off? No? So don't come to PMBD to stick up for Peggy. There's not much more to it really. There's enough forums out there worshipping her and her consorts, maybe those would be better for you?

The way you all treat new members on this forum is ridiculous  >:( !

I'm a new member and I've been treated great. Granted I lurked for a while and didnt start posting a million times in every thread. IMO, they're welcoming to new members who know how to read an FAQ, back up arguements, and are okay with being sporked a few times. This is an adult forum. Its not a fake-ass glitter funfest where everyone is wonderful and luuuuved. Idiots and trolls don't get love on this site. Deal

Title: Re: Photoshop shopped!
Post by: Skoria_Bay on 2008 November 24, 05:49:08
I've read threads here off and on before I joined recently. I read all the newer threads before really posting an answer and everyone here is treated with respect even when they do not agree on something. But it is handled like adults, not like children on a playground. And people know how to write, not something that is shorthand for texting people on PDA's or phones. I understand not all the members here are fluent in English as they are from other countries and English is not their first language. That is different.

Reading is your friend. The FAQ is your friend. Lurking is your friend. If you need to ask a question, there is a thread specifically for that.

Hey, carebear! Shift bar, learn how to use the fucking thing and stop whining because I refuse to worship someone that creates meshes with more holes than a fisherman's net! I don't treat every new kid like shit, nor do I smash them with words if they have a different opinion. But trolls are fair game and had you bothered to find out some shit, I wouldn't be smacking you with the sarcasm stick, you reject from a glitter factory! You'd best take a different name and call yourself BitchyBear, because carebear doesn't suit someone that begins to bitch and moan the first time they bother to post. So fuck off and shut up.

Well, I do agree that the forum hive-mind feels strongly about certain thing. Things like paysites, which, you may have noticed, we would very much like to destroy. If we didn't allow you to speak your mind, your posts would get deleted or ignored, as would any posts that go against the hive-mind. That doesn't happen. You post, we read, we think, we type up counterargument/snappy insult/cat macro. Speak your mind all you want and please, do have opinions of your own. But where did you get the idea that just because it's your opinion, we have to roll over and accept it for what it is? Opinions can't be wrong, I know, but people can be misinformed and base their opinions on utter crap. Fact trumps opinion every time.

Do you know why some forums are so happy and fuzzy and sweet? Because every controversial topic is banned and every snarky post deleted. Trust me, carebear-land would be a lot less sunny if everyone was allowed to speak their minds. Here, everything's out in the open. I would've thought you'd be all for that. Otherwise you can always tell Pescado your wittle feewings got hurt and demand he delete every insultng post. Tha should be fun.  ;D

I saw this in the updated booty from reflexsims and it nearly tore my eyes out!  I would never download this because I have no idea what it actually looks like but a glowing ball of light.

And that is exactly why mirrored walls, floors, and ceilings are meant to be used sparingly.

It looks like a bunch of crystals floating about, held together with nothing but magical pixie dust.  It's creeping me out.

I decided to face the peril and actually tried this in my game:

I especially like the way the bed works with the window sill It's hard to see because the picture is too small, but if you get close, you'll see the sill bleeds right through the bed.  I figure that's so if a Sim wants to put a glass of water on the window sill, they won't have to worry about accidentally hitting their hand on the headboard.

This room has many more delights to discover...

Nothing improves a room like MOAR hanging beads!

Now, before you think I'm all doom and gloom, just because these are pay items,  I'll show you I can be merciful too.

While seeing the many lovely attributes of this marvelous room, I wasn't sure if I should use it in every Sim bedroom I had.  I figured a little decoration would help liven it up, and make it a little more...cozy.

I'm tempted to snag that for some e-holiday cards, BlackDwarf!

I'm normally of the opinion that blinkies suck, but in this case, they do help add something to the room.  The room needed Moar Glitz.

Black Dwarf. such strength you have, woman, to let that monstrosity even anywhere near your game.

It's fine line between strength and stupidity, and I might have crossed it with that one.  Of course, labeling the folder "STUPID CRAP, REMOVE FROM GAME ASAP!" might show I'm not completely stupid.

It's freakin' HIDEOUS. It looks like a high class bordello room, that a cheap hooker decorated. Well, you know what they say.. money doesn't buy you taste.  ;)

That is such a insult to high class bordellos and cheap hookers everywhere!  I think it looks like Hanna Montana's inbreed three dollar whore cousin dreamed that room up one night.  "Ohhh, it's so sparkly!"

Cheap for me is a "look" rather than a social stage. You know, where one looks like they have just finished rolling around in a $2 shop. (Aussie equivalent of your .99 cent store).

Reflexsims has made super extra gaudy objects that don't look good close-up, melt into walls and other object's footprints, and reveal their bad meshes with any form of recoloring.

Hey, I'm new here. And I apologize for grave digging, but I saw this thread, and I had to post this.

The stove doesn't want to go on any of the counters, and willingly floats in mid air.

Oh, and the two shelves to the right don't sit flush to each other like they do in the TSR example, even when I have the cheats on. The game chucks a fit.

I can't believe I paid for that crap.

Edit: Also, sorry for the quality of the TDR example. It was an insert into the main picture for the "Mono" kitchen, and I had to blow it up to match the other pictures. I can also resize the overall image if you want.

Nah, this thread can always use a new entry. Sorry you paid for that crap.

Oh god. I always, always find myself hating the stovetops like that - in fact, I feel that a detached stovetop is a damn good reason to not put a kitchen set into your downloads folder. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love them in a real home (we've even got a nice one in my house), but they're just silly in the game, because you have to use cheats to place them onto a counter, which leads to a usable counter underneath the stove unless you place something with an invisible recolor onto that counter (which, in turn, makes clicking on the stovetop more difficult at times. Not a problem when you have to make your sims cook something, but a big problem when you want them to go clean the thing). Otherwise, sims are preparing their food on the damn stove, and let's not even get into the fact that all of the standard oven features are intact on these stovetops, so they'll be magically inserting food into cabinets, where they will be cooked. Now, I'm not really sure on all of the logistics and if it'd even be possible to make a custom stovetop that only cooks certain meals (pancakes, omlettes, mac and cheese, and any other food that doesn't go into the oven), but if it could be done, it'd make the stovetops more feasible, at least. And it'd be even better if they'd be made as a whole object with the counter underneath them so that the use of the object would actually be logical (at the very least, it'd prevent the serving platters and empty plates from being placed into the stove, as well as prevent the whole "I'm going to set up my wooden cutting board on the stove and start seasoning my salmon right there" thing; ugh, seasonings all over the stove. That thing would have to get filthy every use).

Then again, I really only see these stovetops made by paysite creators, and why would they ever follow logic or try to make it work properly?

I think that's possible, and I could swear it's been done with something before. I just can't remember what. Anyway, the grill only lets you cook certain foods and the microwave and toaster also have selective cooking. I would imagine that it's a matter of taking a cue from those objects and customizing it to suit your needs.

I think I have some of these countertop stoves that are not usable for cooking turkey etc. I always wondered what was wrong with my fridge or the cooking skills that this wasn't in the menue until I noticed that the stove itself was missing.
I don't recall where I downloaded these stoves though, might have been 4esf, simscredible or Murano, and I don't have these files anymore so that I cannot look. If you are interested I could ask my sister, she might still use them.

So yes, it is possible, but if this is really useful is questionable.

Nope, this was at a time when I had only 4ESF, 11dots, ATS, Simscredible and Murano kitchens in my game (yes, I know, stupid paysite crap... but everyone has to learn.)
A lot of the 4ESF stoves are made to be placed on counters though.

Thanks for all the comments. I still like the kitchen as a whole -- the look -- I have a heap of modern looking homes (which I found on free-sites) and I wanted modern interiors for them. That stovetop just annoyed the heck out of me though.

I only found this site after buying it -- I wish I'd found this place sooner! I'm going to try that one from modthesims though.

I think it'd be fun to have this set, because the animations would be oh so amusing. More for others than for you, sadly. You know what they say.

Tragedy is when I stub my toe. Comedy is when you fall and die in a sewer.

Hmm. I don't think it was a 4ESF one; I had the first couple of their stoves like that, and they had the full oven capabilities - they may have changed this with the ones after that, though, for all I know. But, the one from MTS2 is really cute (on top of working properly); I hadn't seen it before.

I don't get most new mesh kitchen sets anyway.  I mean counters are cubes--most of them could be done recolors of the EAXIS counters with very little trouble.  Ditto for 80% of the refrigerators and stoves.  I have a few clogging up my downloads folder. but not nearly as many as I do bathrooms or other sets.

Title: Re: Photoshop shopped!
Post by: Eskimo Pie on 2009 January 04, 06:46:09
I agree with that!  I have a bazillion recolours of eaxis appliances so I don't need yet another white fridge lol I don't use many custom counters either, unless they are something very different than just clones of the same ol ones.

Title: Re: Photoshop shopped!
Post by: calalily on 2009 January 04, 07:57:27
I agree - I don't get the obsession with counters all the time, not if you can recolour to suit.  If I wanted to make new counters, they'd be radically different ones.

Title: Re: Photoshop shopped!
Post by: SoggyFox on 2009 January 04, 16:15:25
I do like the maxis match counters and more done by Mary Lou and Numenor though.  Adds a bit more options, and I use the cheap set all the time, because I love its look the best.

Title: Re: Photoshop shopped!
Post by: Quinctia on 2009 January 04, 22:44:31
I'm of a slightly different mind.  Since counters ARE glorified boxes, as long as the meshed shape is different from a Maxis counter, I don't think it's a big deal to add a couple of custom ones in.  Provided they're well made and all, since polycounts on A BOX aren't too high if done right.

Now, custom couches I have no use for.  I just love the NL modular and blake_boy from MTS2's modular couches too much to really use anything else, so I don't need anything else!  I really need to weed out some of my custom chairs and dining tables as well.

Agreed. Not sure if these: http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=278085 are radically different. But for work like this I definitely make room for. After almost a year of not using dozens of counters and counter recolors, I just deleted them all except for these and a few maxis recolors.

I'm such a download junkie that I don't even realize how much I don't use until I force myself to look at it all and delete a few things now and then.

ETA: shite. everytime I check the buggybooz link to his kitchen set, it's updated. There's just no rest when this set is concered. It seems like every month she's added something new to it and it just keeps getting better. :o

About Simsky's Multi alarm: Hmm but that's also a Maxis thing. I don't mind having a smoke alarm act as both, but they look horribly out of place in a lot of my houses. It's a maxis thing, I use so much CC that Maxis made stuff really sticks out like a sore thumb. :D

Tapthatbooty: I am sure you can use quite a few cheats to "layer" paintings over burglar alarms, but that's not really what I am after. Bah don't worry about it guys. I have looked all over the web, and it's an item that it's limited in choice because most people don't care about stupid details like that. However it HAS been awhile since I've been on a downloading spree, (apart from checking the item threads on here) so they may be newer developments, but I doubt it. Prove me wrong people, prove me wrong! :P

Found it in my game, but for the life of me I cannot find it at Parsimonious itself. If you like the look of it I can pm it to you or put it on mediafryer or something though, at least it'd save Parsim's bandwidth that way (unless anyone from there objects of course!).

Also there is a smoke alarm (the bell next to that picture) in wood and black and an antiquey telephone (below the bell) that I apparently got at the same time, if those are wanted.

Not for lack of trying, I'm sure. Doesn't it take forever and a day for mts2 to approve stuff? Anva's account hadn't been updated in the better portion of a year but she'd be trying to get new eyeshadows approved, I think. (uploaded them to GOS instead).

Fair enough, but isn't the file itself free? I admire Pixel though, since he's gone free he's released a great deal of very high quality vintage cars. I respect him too for his jewerly meshes- as he was one of the first to really get jewerly into the game, which is progressive- to say the least. This community needs more progressive creators- rather that twits like Lianna, Anna Marie (Are they the same person?!) and garbage from the creators of Simchic.

Free on T$R has two problems - 1) that the free files don't always stay free, and 2) only exist to lure users into paying for a sub. Lining to stuff in a positive light from T$R is generally frowned upon, and will get you yelled at.

If you stick to minimal CC, its easier to track down - and a good number of creators will show up in the clean installer, which also helps.  And if the CC is on MTS2, it will show up for you automagically.

I enjoy downloading Maxis furnished lots because then I can get a feel for how the creator wanted the lot to look. Then I replace things with whatever I like best, but usually keep the positioning the same. It takes a little more time, but surprisingly less than if I downloaded an unfurnished lot. Downloading a content-laden lot is like a kid whose parents tell it that it's going to get a lollipop, and then take it to the dentist. Oh, sure, the kid gets a lollipop in the end, but it's not the same thing.

Inside, very pretty, not all reflex but the furniture and drape above the bed is:

The view from the backyard leaves a little to be desired:

I have a confession. I downloaded some stuff from the Booty, namely a few reflexsims sets. What can I say? I wanted them, and I thought it would be kind of ... fun? to post pictures of me using reflex pay files on the reflex forums. The failure, let me show you it:

*snip to spare the eyes the horror*

I do not understand what this fetish is of reflexsims to have those curtains in every bedroom.  I just hope she uses the same mesh, and doesn't make a new one for every single bedroom set.

I've downloaded stuff in the booty too, I admit it.  I've ended up deleting most of it, because it's just not that great and I can usually find a free counterpart that is better.  I've also noticed that a lot of pay creators make the same set over and over again.  No, they don't recolor one set, they just make the same thing with all new meshes.  Free creators are more likely to make a set in one style, then make another set in another style, or make a set in the same style, but for a different room.  If I could mesh, that would be what I'd do, make different styles but only one set.  So I'd have one Victorian kitchen with a billion recolors, one modern kitchen with a billion recolors, so on and so forth.  Redundant meshes only clog up the game.

The view from the backyard leaves a little to be desired:

Just moving it forward a bit (as a mesh) or shortening it would make it so much better - I don't think these peeps play their games, and see how annoying this is. I'm always frantic to make sure it's not bigger than it needs to be.

I agree - except about the recolours - I hate doing bloody recolours, and just sit and pray that someone else will do them. :P  I still have all the bits from the bed set I did, but to reuse them? That's not very exciting.

Maybe that curtain problem can be fixed with snapobjectsto grid or setquartertileplacement, but seriously, if you need cheats and EPs just to make your items work (possibly) it's not worth it. The lack of care put into that stuff is stunning.

I've got no problems with items requiring moveobjects to work, though the reason none of my bedding stuff is base game compatible is because I used a rug, so it wouldn't be an issue.  Which reminds me, I need to fiddle with the SIP bed mesh and see if I can make it work for me.  Got the permission, but these damn impacted teeth are driving me to distraction.

So, I don't know if this is a Photoshop per se, but it certainly is a case of not getting what was promised.

One of my challenge sims just had a baby and I was building a nursery for the first time in ages, when I found a nursery set I didn't remember downloading. This is what it looked like ingame:

AW HELL NAW!

A little bleed-thorugh is annoying enough, but understandable in some cases. This crib is halfway through the wall. Shit like that just pisses me off so much. In case you're wondering, there's wasn't a cheat code in the game that could save that set. Unless you're prepared to build nurseries the size of a mansion, do not use that set. I mean seriously, look at that shit:

See, no joke. Half the object is right outside the house. That is not cool.

So I went looking for the creator and discovered that in a daze of confusion I must have confused the booty with a decent download site, because this is what I found on vitasims:

Yeah, right.

Also, I saw the big scary necromancer for the very first time. I haz a scared...

I have that set too, I also have no idea how it came to be in my game. I haz a suspicion that my sister dled it when she was here... payshit in my game... grumble...   Anyway, glad to know it actually is shit, now I can delete it and not scare the Sim neighbours half to death with a crib jutting from my house.

I didn't build the house though. MTS2 is very wonky for me at the moment, but it's on there. It's called Villa Kunterbunt if you want it. ;)

Reflex stuff is notorious for that. If any of their stuff is in fact game tested then they really just don't care.

Or Mystery Diagnosis -

Tonite on Mystery Diagnoses Pleasantview Medical Center - Woman complains of stabbing pain in shoulder. Will doctors figure it out in time to save her?

" Elvira walked into the Pleasantview ER one night complaining of pains in her shoulder. After several tests the doctors were still unable to determine what was wrong with the young woman.
She did not have any of the commonly known Sim Diseases or Injuries, no Roach Flu,  and no Lightening Strikeosis.
They also determined that she had not set herself on fire while cooking Lunchmeat Sandwhiches, or drowned after the Sim God accidentally removed the ladder in her swimming pool.

Suddenly,  Dr Goopy Gilscarbo,  the hot young intern noticed that Elvira was being stabbed through the shoulder by an overly long piece of hair that had been left attached after Elvira's last visit to her Hairdresser Rose who had forgotten to adequately game test her hair meshes before publishing them.

Dr Goopy G quickly placed Elvira on the gurney and raced her to the nearest mirror. Sitting her on the stool of the lovely vanity table designed by Sim City's Number One Furniture Designer, Adele, he quickly took out his doctors bag and pulled out his styling tools. Soon he had changed Elviras hair to the lovely Girl Next Door Hair by up and coming Stylist Nouk. The hair was properly meshed and Elvira told Dr Goopy G that her shoulder no longer had strangely stabbing pains running through it.

Mystery Solved: Diagnoses : Badly Meshed Hair: Result: Elvira Sim married Dr Goopy G six months later in a whirlwind ceremony in her friend Cassandra Goth's back yard. She no longer allows Rose to touch her hair, in fact Rose was run out of town 6 weeks later by Kaylnn Langerak after Rose effectively ruined Kaylnn's wedding to Don Lothario by rendering her bald. Everyone in Pleasant view now has their hair done by Nouk who has become one of the most popular stylists in the Sim Nation, though not the richest because unlike Rose she does not charge to do peoples hair, she does it for the love of style. Everyone is happy, except Rose who is now living in a cardboard box behind Rodney's Hideout in Downtown Pleasantview and being stalked by Count Edgar Whatthefuck, Master Vampire of Pleasantview.

That's okay- It's a little late, and I am punch and probably not making much sense. Working from home is not always what it's cracked up to be. I have been dealing with whiny grad students and thesis editing all night

For the unfamiliar Mystery Diagnosis is a show in the U.S where people show up at the hospital ER with weird diseases or injuries and the doctors try to figure out what is wrong with them. This my attempt at a spoof of Reality TV- gotta love it (or not).

I just wasn't sure- I love it to but it is late- and I am punchy and this probably did not make much sense- It is unfortunately true- I had a sim and her fiance age up - they were already a couple going steady and no university - my custom hood does not have it available yet- and she had a Rose Hair and unlike Nouk, Adele, and Agustin's hair (and Anto@Coolsims I think- not game tested yet) which stays on your sims head before during and after age transition- Rose and Peggy hair does not - so she ended up getting married bald because I forgot to put her hair back on.

Long time ago I had a similar problem with an outfit from Sims Connection. There was this huge big spike sticking out of the guy's belly. I wrote to Sims Connection about it, but they just told me they were unable to recreate the problem - which kind of pissed me off at the time. A few months later I got a new computer with a better graphics card, and the problem disappeared.

Jassims, learn to adjust bone weights.  Yes, it's time consuming and not always trivial.  That's a problem when you want to crank out crap on schedule.  Do pay creators not test clothing in game, just BodyShop?  Then they're lazy.  Or do they knowingly sell borked meshes?  Then they're lazy rip-off con artists.

edit: They could at the very least paint the skin layer same as the shirt / skirt, so when it does poke through, it's not bare skin.  Although the proper way to do it is to not have poke through at all.

The model in the low rise wide legs pants, I hope she waxes if she wants to dress like that.  If that waistband were any lower, she would be Sharon Stone'ing us.

Yeah, but iirc the guy who gave it to her was the skeeziest skank imaginable. He also accused her of being "poor" because she only had 9 million dollars or something. Also, I believe that was recorded in a conversation he had with Paris Hilton, of all the useless, talentless, nasty, hideous wastes of water and minerals. I don't care for Lindsay Lohan, I just feel sorry for her, but at least she's done something at some point in her life to like, earn money in an honest fashion.
