My simulation:

Ok, after a while of thinking.. I decided that I don't want to keep my creations from people... so the donation section in the downloads page has been removed.. you can get all the stuff for free now!
I figured that if someone wants to donate.. they should do it because they really want to help the site.. donation downloads doesn't even work anyhow.. the donations button hasn't been touched for months! lol
so whatever... just take them... I'm gonna see if I can later get ads up instead.. clicking on ads is something everyone can do if you wanted.. so gonna try that again... hopefully with good results this time...
uhhh, that is all..lol.. hope you enjoy!

And please remember,.. all downloads are for personal use only.. you cannot redistribute,recolor..etc.. without my permission... if you are caught.. you will be automatically banned from the site.. and if you catch someone doing it.. please let us know.. we in return will reward you with simos  for helping us protect the site. Thanks!

Now that's something nice and positive!

I approve.

Shouldn't we have some sort of anti-killmark, something to indicate that the site owner has seen the light and stopped being a paysite? A pirate mark of  approval, or honourable mention, or something?

I don't think mysimulation is in the booty, so we had nothing to do with their decision.

If this question is not appropriate, please, do not make me walk the plank... :)

I approve this too. It is a nice idea.
Even Pescado may be nice for once... does he?

*ducks to avoid ground-to-ground missiles*

Well, that's nice, never heard of them before, but still.

And cute idea, but what's the point in having a 'suicide' mark for things you didn't kill yourself? :P

Make one of those award blinkies for them to display on their site.  A sparkly cutlass or something.

Yes, Marhis!

That would be brilliant. I vote yes on pirate kitty.

Are those only for sites that were pay and went free?

*wants one... *

I'm going to turn simlogical pay for a day so I can go free and get a blinkie

Title: Another site went free
Post by: andygal on 2006 December 15, 21:25:07
Awesome!

I agree, we need to send them a blinkie or a banner or something.

Title: Another site went free
Post by: jesserocket on 2006 December 15, 22:04:30
That would be interesting on a number of levels...People who were sent and displayed said blinkies would be known as PMBD sympathizers...but it also would show that we're not all about the CRUSH KILL DESTROY...

Title: Another site went free
Post by: Marhis on 2006 December 15, 22:34:00
I agree; those above are quick tries, but the pirate kitten theme fits well, to me  :).
A better size-ing and writing on badges may help, too.

I agree also that it's important psycologically (you know, marketing stuff and such): the more official and widely known is, the better.

Nice ones, I love them!

One thing I've been thinking about and would like to see in "the community" is some kind of button or blinkie that said "share-friendly site" or something like that, indicating that the site owner allows recolouring and mesh redistribution and permission for people to use their stuff in houses or sims for upload.

I think that, if it got big enough and a lot of the big site owners used it, it could make some stuck-up, uptight creators loosen their ridiculous TOS's up a bit since they - hopefully - would feel left out and start to fear that lacking that little banner would make them lose visitors... Or something.

Anyway...

That's all from me, yarrr!

Title: Another site went free
Post by: Doursim on 2006 December 16, 20:24:28
Actually, I really like that idea too.  Problems is: The only "big" site that has a TOS like that is Noukie, the rest have member sections/etc.

Title: Another site went free
Post by: Captain Berg on 2006 December 16, 20:37:04
I think All About Style are pretty share-friendly too, at least they allow you to put their meshes on your own site, I wouldn't know for the rest right now...

But that could make TWO sites..!  :D

Well, after a fashion, there is, at Neighbourhood 99, sort of. Not the same, but there is a filesharing friendly system...

Quote
N99's Filesharing forum to help save bandwidth of free sites. Sign up your site! Please read the rules before participating. Lots of sites listed and lots of members here willing to send you files! This forum is NOT to be used for redistribution of files from PAY SITES. Any postings of email addresses to have a file sent to them should be preceded by a post that indicates that it is ok. That means some indication of either getting permission from the creator or having looked up that creator's policy or whatever, should always come before any email addresses. If you cannot get permission, do not use this forum to distribute that file.

*slaps forhead*  I completly forgot about AAS >.o.   Forgive me :)

Anyway, I still think it's a good idea.

Post by: wicked_one on 2006 December 16, 23:17:44
well although it hasnt been updated lately, louis' site is file share friendly (she has a little file-share friendly button up i believe) and she changed her terms so they are alot more loose....she has preview pics up implying she's going to start updating again soon though :)
And LianaSims2, she allows you to use her clothing and stuff in your sims, recolor/redistribute her meshes, she even has a mesh page for creators.

Title: Another site went free
Post by: pmbd_fangirl on 2006 December 16, 23:29:49
AAS is the same with the mesh page and allowing redistribution. Only stipulation is you don't reuse the textures and that you credit. Still one of the best sites out there imo.

I got a little excited (and I'm bored because I'm having meshing problems and don't know how to fix it) so I made THESE:

Not as awesome as the pirate kitties but I'm bored and lack inspiration...

Now if only people would use them (or better ones if someone volunteers)..! I guess I could put one on my site even though it's a tiny site that no one cares about or even go to, but it's a start...

Very nice! "Share friendly" with sims' icons are perfect, "we" :P might also promote this sort of support, even without the pmbd signature, which not everybody might like.

I put it on my tiny site, too! I am learning to mesh, and someday I hope to create some things that others might want to use!

God, I type slow (it doesn't help browsing 1867 sites on the same time either!) I'm very glad to hear that, I like your site (found it on S2C the other day actually!)

Edited because I suck

I may not mesh but I'm going to toss one up on my sims!lj.  I think just knowing people are okay with pmbd is pretty neat too.

Title: Another site went free
Post by: Captain Berg on 2006 December 18, 21:25:39
Doursim, I linked to you from my links page (you too, SparkePlenty) but I will make an external list later on (I'm planning to, anyway... We should just have more than three names on that list first   )

I also tried to put together a FAQ (http://one.fsphost.com/berg/sfs.html). Please read it and tell me what you think (my grammar and spelling isn't the best - feel free to correct my errors) and also tell me if something's out of place or missing or... just anything. I don't think this should be one man's (or in this case - woman's...) project so I want many views on what should define a share friendly site.  :)

Title: Another site went free
Post by: Doursim on 2006 December 19, 03:54:00
The FAQ sounds good.  If you don't mind, may I post the fsf banners on my site (in the link section) with an info link to your FAQ?

*and I'm going to link back to your site without even asking  8)

*edit:  I never edit.  But I linked my english version to your faq, but wrote a french version for my own site.  It's available  here (http://viking.coe.uh.edu/~keguffey/Doursim/fsffr.html)

I don't speak french, if anyone does and would mind proofing it for me I would be grateful.

Title: Another site went free
Post by: Captain Berg on 2006 December 19, 11:24:45
That's all so great, Doursim!  :)
But I'm afraid my French is even worse than my English so no help from me, but I trust you and will put a link to your translation on the FAQ page when I come home   .

Tonight I plan to email some site owners that I know are CC share friendly to let them know about this "campaign" or what we should call it, I might even make a thread at S2C, I'm very curious what kind of reactions it would generate...  :D

I made an italian version, abuse of it as you want.
----------------------
